Chapter 18

She gazed into the box, tears brimming in her eyes as she glanced up at the pegasus before her. Dash smiled shyly at her, a fierce blush on her cheeks as she stared into Twilight's eyes lovingly. Twilight slipped the lid back onto the box, quickly setting it aside as she leapt forward, tackling the mare into a fierce hug.

"I love you, Rainbow Dash!" She whispered, her muzzle inches from Dash's ear. She pulled away, kissing her marefriend quickly, drawing a light giggle from Pinkie Pie. The pair blushed as they remembered the presence of their friends.

The room was silent for a moment, broken by Twilight awkwardly clearing her throat.

“So... sleepover anypony?” She asked, her eyes going wide as her friends cheered in approval. She shot a glance at Dash, motioning for the mare to meet her upstairs the first chance they had. Dash nodded, a grin on her face as Pinkie Pie vanished into the kitchen, returning a moment later with several cups of steaming hot chocolate.

She passed the cups around, grinning as the six friends sipped contentedly from their drinks. Twilight smiled, a sigh escaping her lips as she sipped at the warm beverage. The group sat, giggling and talking amongst themselves as Rainbow and Twilight stole glances at each other. Rarity cleared her throat, giggling as she glanced at the two.

“Are we just going to sit here and watch you two stare at each other, or are we going to do something?” Rarity asked, giggling as Twilight blushed, her attention snapping away from her marefriend.

“Umm... We could play a game?” Twilight ventured.

Pinkie Pie cheered, bouncing in place as the rest of the group nodded or shrugged. Twilight grinned, her horn flaring for a moment as her head suddenly pounded.

“Ow..” She groaned, rubbing a hoof at the base of her horn. “Would you mind grabbing the games off the shelf, Rarity?” She nodded, her horn flaring a light blue as the boxes levitated into the air, drifting to settle in the space between the friends. Twilight leaned forward, nudging the boxes beside each other.

“Okay, look's like we could play Sorry, Ponopoly, Risk, or Apples to Apples.” Twilight giggled as Applejack sat up straighter, a broad grin on her face as she excitedly reached for Apples to Apples.

“Oh, heavens no.” Rarity said, snatching the offending game in her magic and swiftly depositing it back on the shelf. Applejack frowned, huffing as she crossed her arms and shot a glare at the prissy pony.

“I happen ta like that game!” Applejack protested, glancing to the box on the shelf behind them.

“I know you do, but so does Applebloom. I am always forced to join in and play that game with the girls when they stay at the boutique, and I would rather not play it tonight.” She said, ignoring Applejack's frown as she peered at the other games.

“Ohhhh, how about Ponopoly?” Pinkie said, holding the box in her hooves as her ears twitched excitedly.

“I would rather not play Ponopoly...” Twilight said, shuddering slightly. “I still remember the marathon game we had the last time Pinkie played it...” The group, minus Pinkie, simultaneously shuddered.

“So it's between Risk and Sorry.” Dash said, pushing Ponopoly aside, where Rarity quickly snatched it up and deposited it back on the shelf. “Which one do you like Fluttershy?”

“Oh, I don't mind which one we play. They are both fun...” She trailed off, retreating into her hair as she peered at the games.

“Let's play Risk!” Twilight said, shooting a glance at Dash, a sly smile on her face as she winked at her. Dash smiled back, quickly agreeing with Twilight.

Pinkie Pie ripped the box open, quickly passing out the army tokens and colors to each player. They placed their pieces on the board, smiling challengingly at each other as they rolled the dice to see who would go first. Pinkie ended up rolling the highest number, marking her as the first player.

They quickly snatched up the unclaimed territories, giggling as their armies started fighting each other, territories trading hooves each and every turn. Fluttershy ended up being a ruthless commander, quickly doubling the size of her territories. Twilight and Dash stole glances between turns, only halfheartedly paying attention to the game. Before long, their armies were crushed, reduced to a single unit each.

Twilight sighed as her last unit was defeated, effectively ending her participation in the game.

“Well I'm out. I'm going to the little filly's room.” She said, speaking to the group in general as she stepped past Dash, flicking her with her tail. Dash followed her with her eyes, grinning as she saw Twilight grab her present in her mouth, her eyes reluctantly trailing to the board before her as Twilight vanished from her view. After another round, Fluttershy crushed Rainbow's last unit, booting her from the game also.

She zipped into the air, glancing at her friends as she drifted toward the staircase, clearing her throat slowly. “I'm gonna go check and see if Twi is alright.” She zoomed up the stairs, a sparkling rainbow trail left behind her; silence left in her wake.

After a moment, Rarity spoke up. “You realize that they were attempting to lose as quickly as possible right?” She asked, glancing at the ponies around her.

“Eeyup,” Applejack giggled, examining the board before her.

“And that they are probably talking about whatever Rainbow's present is right now?”

“Yea,” Pinkie Pie said, rolling the dice in her hoof.

“Alright.” Rarity said, shaking her head.

~Upstairs~

Rainbow Dash flew into Twilight's bedroom, a grin appearing on her face as she caught sight of Twilight leaning against the balcony railing just outside the bedroom window. Rainbow quietly trotted up, a loving smile on her face as she quietly approached her marefriend.

“So what does this mean... for us?” Twilight asked with a smile as Rainbow sat down beside her.

“Well... um It means that...” She trailed off, mumbling slightly. “I'm... asking you to.. you know..”

“I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I don't know,” Twilight said, feigning ignorance. She grinned as her marefriend scowled at her, the pegasus breathing deeply as she focused on Twilight.

“I know that I'm not normally the mushy type... but seeing you laying in the hospital...” Rainbow trailed off, scratching the back of her head. “It killed me inside. I don't wanna imagine not knowing how you're doing... how you're feeling... if you miss me.” She took a deep breath, pulling Twilight closer to her. “Will you make this easy on me, and marry me?” She asked, reaching into the box and offering the ring to Twilight.

“You never even had to ask,” Twilight said, tears in her eyes as she held a hoof out. Rainbow smiled, slipping the ring over her hoof as Twilight admired it. The ring was beautifully crafted; the diamond sparkling as it caught the moonlight. Twilight threw herself on top of the pegasus, capturing Rainbow’s lips in her own. They broke apart a minute later, gasping for breath, their cheeks flushed a heavy red as they stared into each other’s eyes.

Twilight looked down at the ring once again, before looking back at Dash.

She smiled, her eyes sparkling as she pulled Dash closer to her. She leaned forward, kissing Dash with a fiery passion, not stopping until Dash pulled away gasping, her wings stiff, her cheeks shining a brilliant red.

Dash stared at her, desire obvious in her gaze, her mouth open as she panted quietly. She tore her gaze away from Twilight and sat up, gazing out over the town before them. They sat beside each other silently, leaning against each other happily. Minutes passed, neither breaking the silence, until Twilight slowly turned toward Rainbow.

“Should we go tell the others?” Twilight asked.

“Honestly?” Dash asked, chuckling as Twilight cocked her head at her. After a moment of silence Twilight nodded, shaking her head at Rainbow's antics.

“Honestly, I'm having trouble not screaming it to the world.” She replied, kissing Twilight on the nose.

Twilight stood, a smile on her face as she kissed her fiancée, her tail running under Dash's chin as she passed her, her hips swaying as she reentered her bedroom. Behind her, she could hear Dash curse as she awkwardly tucked her wings into her side, following on hoof a moment later. Twilight giggled, her hooves clacking on the stairs as she descended into the main room.

Their friends were still sitting in a circle, the board game neatly boxed up and back on the shelf. They turned to face the two, smiles on their face as Twilight and Rainbow beamed at them.

“So...?” Pinkie asked, giggling at the pair. “Where'd ya go?”

Twilight grinned, nudging Dash with her shoulder. Dash smiled, sharing a glance with the pony beside her before speaking.

“I asked Twilight to marry me.” She said, her cheeks aching in an ear-to-ear grin. “She said yes!” She yelled, grinning as Twilight nuzzled her affectionately.

Pinkie Pie cheered, yelling loudly as she turned to face Applejack. Applejack sighed, cursing quietly as she dug into her saddlebag beside her. Pinkie pie laughed, holding her hoof out toward the farm pony. Applejack pulled a small bag of bits out of the saddlebag, tossing them toward Pinkie without a word.

Twilight's jaw dropped, a scowl on her face as she stared at her friends, all of who were smiling innocently.

“Seriously? You bet on Dash proposing to me?” She said, glaring at her friends who bust into laughter. Twilight stared at them, before breaking into laughter with them. Her friends gathered around her, expressing their delight at the proposal, hugs and words exchanged between the group.

Twilight smiled as she caught her fiance’s eye. It felt strange to imagine her life without Rainbow, and until recently, that's exactly how she had lived. She thought back to that day, so many months ago, when she had first learned of Rainbow’s feelings for her. If it wasn't for that, she might never be standing here, amongst her friends, with the love of her life at her side. It was funny how something so small could lead to one of the happiest moments in her life.

And it all started with a spell.

Author's Note:

A/n: And that's all! Over the next few weeks/months I will be going back over my story and will be changing quite alot of it. The story line will stay the same, but certain scenes will change and new scenes will be added. If anyone wants to read the new version when it's done I will be adding a blog post for each chapter!

There are countless people I need to think for keeping me inspired over the course of this story!

The Abyss- For being an amazing editor!
Timaeus- For talking whenever I needed it!
AppleDashFan132- For letting me bounce ideas off him!
Graphic-Lee-For the amazing cover art!

There are countless other people that I wanna thank, especially all my readers and all the people who commented on my story.
I have re-edited the entire story, and no longer have anything to change to this one.
The sequel is currently being worked on, and will be posted once I have quite a bit of the sequel and Waiting on the Moon posted.

Woo good ending to a good story! :pinkiehappy:
Edit: first!

Nice ending.

I enjoyed this greatly.

~Skeeter The Lurker

Nooooooo! Not now! The wedding! Whyyyyyyyyyy!:raritycry:

Besides that point, absolutely great chapter. Been waiting for this FOREVER and now I can finally read it! Hahahaha, and I must say you did it well. :yay: Hooray! The story was absolutely wonderful, from beginning to finish. I am sad to see it done now, but everything has to end at some point. Wonderful job man.

Damn, I should've joined in on that bet. And I thought RD was descended from Commander Hurricane but it turns out Fluttershy has those genes.

yay it's finished, time to read it. been hoping something in my to read file would turn up complete soon. thank you  just to make sure though, tell me if this has plans to be edited or rewritten. so then i can wait till it is redone to read it :scootangel:

Did you read any of Bats stories? He has used the "AJ and Pinkie have a bet on Twi and Dash getting together" joke in a couple of his stories. I still love it, though.

2714684

It currently has plans to be re-written but it can be anywhere from a month to several months before I get to any type of changes :pinkiehappy:

2714698

I have read a few of his stories, but I don't think I noticed that joke in them :pinkiegasp: I just picked Aj and Pinkie because I figured Rarity would see it as un-lady like to bet on just about anything, and Fluttershy would be to shy to :pinkiehappy:

2714704

He used it in Coming Back and The Twidash Project, I believe.

2714713

Sadly I have not had a chance to read either of those yet, but they are now on my read later list :derpytongue2:

2714727

Coming Back is easily my favorite of his stories, though Spellbound Fireflies is getting really good.

Also, the idea of Fluttershy dominating at Risk is hilarious.

2714737

It's always the innocent ones :flutterrage:

You would think that Twilight would at least have halfway decent board games. That was a list of some of the worst; all it was really missing was Chutes and Ladders. Not Ponifying the names made it kind of a jarring break from immersion, too.

That is a really nice story, freaking awesomely :rainbowdetermined2:.

Thank you.

:yay:
Wonderfully adorable ending. So, are the side stories going to be added to the end of this? Or will I need to add you to my follow list to be updated on them all?

Something tells me that I will be reading a fic all night. JOY!

Well done on finishing this, I certainly enjoyed it through and through!

sequel! we need a sequel asap!

2715382

Thank you for the correction on that! If you see any more I might have missed please let me know so I can be sure to fix them on my second pass. :pinkiehappy:

A complete story? I must read this in it's entirety. I wasn't expecting a fully complete chapter fic to ever show up in the featured box. It's so... refreshing.

A few loose ends are left in this story,

i'd say, you didn't tell us who won the game:pinkiesad2:

2715606

Oh god that made me chuckle lol. Also gives me an amazing idea for a side story.. mwuahaha :-D

Well its been an interesting ride from beginning to end, it was a nice sweet fluffy ending to a story that really took a dark turn there towards the end. But I guess it's true what they say you can't really appreciate the good times without the bad. Overall the story quality was amazing with most characters behaving believable almost all the time. There are still a few lingering questions yes (the one I really wanna know about is what Celestia did about the changelings), but you said you may expand upon those side stories later so its all good! Now the only thing left to do is read the whole damn thing over! :derpytongue2:

A ring works too lol. Shame though I'm a sucker for the give your special somepony one of your feathers thing :twilightsheepish:

2714922

The side stories will probably be their own stories :pinkiehappy:

Wouldn't you need to watch me so that you can see when/if I post a sequel anyways :pinkiegasp:

2717558
Thought about that after posting, so I'm following you now.

2717568

Depending how much time I have off work in the next few weeks, I should have my first side story posted before the end of July :pinkiehappy:

i watched this story for a long time its amazing and deserves more likes than its got already
(to be fair if the likes were 1000000000 i still think it needs more)

So, I got bored and decided to look for something new to read. I happen across this.

Mental process through first half;
"This...is extremely saccharine. I mean, it's nice to see a romance story where everything goes relatively well, but it almost seems too easy. Then again, there's only a one-week time skip, and the rest of it's written in concurrent, chronological order so the fact that nothing goes wrong in the first day or two probably makes sense. Really mushy though."

Second half;
"Okay, so THIS is where things go down. And they included a small bit with drunk Fluttershy, so bonus points.

Argument over Twilight's accidental spying, saw that one coming. She teleports when she falls, ends up in the Everfree--CHANGELINGS! But wait, how do they know...? Probably not important.

Okay, so that was resolved with relative speed, they go back home--Proposal. THAT was pretty fast."

Well, it was worth my time. Although I really have to question why you go back and forth between using "Oh my god" and "Oh Celestia" a few times. Might be nice to smooth that out on one or the other.

Dawww*cries*i loved it *cries and sniffs*:fluttercry: good story :twilightsheepish:

Honestly I had my doubts about this story at first but I pushed through and thank Celestia I did. This turned out to be a very good story.

2718237 I thought the same thing about the changlings. At first I thought it was just the forest somehow fucking with her.
2714763 Hey apples to apples is awesome :derpytongue2:

A very sweet story and a pleasure to read. Very nice!

2720233

Awesome? I have literally won it playing blind.

Now comes the hard part: parents.

2724110

Yea toward the end of the story I started running out of my planned material and I think that's the part I'm the unhappiest with :pinkiesad2: But I plan to redo that and much of my later chapters when I have the time.

I plan to include alot more scenes in the redone version, including a flashback to show Rd talking to Celestia to set up the surprise. :twilightblush:

YAY! Twi's getting hitched ! This was an adorable fic, and I can't wait to follow the side stories and sequel to this.

this was great and well made. had a very unique plot to it as well. a few hitches here and there, but overall it is amazing and small hitches can be worked out real quick. this story is good and nothing in it is a plot hole or anything that ruins the story. which is the big thing, so all is good :)

2729537

I'm glad you liked it! For my first story I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, and I know where my strengths as a writer are now so hopefully, my redo and sequel will be even better :pinkiehappy:

I honestly just love this story and it was a beautifull ending it´s just to bad that it´s over now. :rainbowkiss::twilightblush::heart:

:rainbowkiss::heart::twilightsmile:= DAAAAWWWWWW *sniffsniff* Manly tears, *hic* have been shed *sniff sniffle* excuse me *grabs tissues* its just, *pthpbhtpth phtp* SO BEAUTIFUL! *PTHBPHBPTHPBTHPBT...... WahwahWAHHHHHHHHHHHH* okay... okay... im done.

...I really don't know what to say. The story in itself was okay but it lacked some things which I commented on on a previous chapter, namely the conflict. It was there, and that was okay. Could have been introduced a bit earlier, though.

As for this whole proposal thing... I haven't really got the feeling that a lot of time has actually passed, which makes me feel that Rainbow proposed after ~3 weeks or so, not months. Making sure that there's a feeling of how much time have passed is needed, I think.

That said, the story was quite good and cute a lot of the time, at least good enough to earn a like.

2742140

I realize that the sense of time wasn't very clear, and that's one thing I plan to fix when I redo the story, as well as introducing the problem earlier, and clearing up alot of stuff with the changelings. :pinkiehappy:

I've read a lot of really good Twidash stories, but this has to be my favorite of them all.:heart::rainbowwild:

That was amazing!! :fluttercry:

I started reading when the first chapter was uploaded. Since then, this story has fulfilled my wish for Dash and Twilight to be together. I thank you for this and also for creating the first fanfic I ever read. Please write the sequel soon! :D I can't last that long!

PS Ponopoly? Bucking seriously?

Oh yeah, this was absolutely amazing. Better written than a lot of commercial books as well...looking at you, Harry Potter and Fifty Shades

2762279 I'm surprised no one else caught that, but at least it gave me a good laugh.

Anyway, this was a beautiful story; it had some points that were a bit vague, namely the changeling bit, but nothing that detracted from the overall greatness of this story.

I look forward to seeing more from you in the future and you my good sir/madam have earned yourself a follower

2762322

I'm glad to hear that you liked it! I realize that the changeling bit was very vague, and that is one of the main topics I will be fixing in my redo of the story :pinkiehappy:

I'm kinda sad after I started to re-read the story:pinkiesad2: knowing that this is now over. This was my very first fanfiction ever, that I have ever read. Even though there was a long wait *coughcough:trixieshiftleft:* this is still my most favoritest of all fanfics ever!!!!:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:
