Everypony knows the old foals tale of Nightmare Moon. How in a sudden fit of jealousy Princess Luna tried to overthrow her sister, Celestia? Well, there is only one pony alive who knows the true story behind that fable. This is the story of how I disobeyed my own sister for the benefit of all ponykind, only for those same ponies to turn their back on me, of my fight against Discord, Sombra, and ultimately... my older sister.

Hmmm I just realized that there is a criminal lack of Luna emotes! This must be fixed at once!!
So, Celestia is making them act like the Time Lords/Watchers, godlike beings who can only observe but never interfere. Also, why do almost all stories dealing with. The young Sisters, have them live in a cave, never understood that?

In the cartoon, Luna speaks in High Middle English, and a pretty late version of it. Aldeenglisc sy eine oferpinesse (Old English is a pain)
I've struggled with that same question, though, and I think you chose well; I didn't even notice that it wasn't in middle-high Canterlot until you mentioned it.

So Luna knew Applejack's 80x-great grandmother or so. I bet AJ would find that pretty interesting.
Unless Luna was dreaming, I'm a little unclear what was going on at the end there. It seemed like they were only apart for like half an hour, yet the earth ponies already discovered Equestria? Although I suppose there could have been an unspecified time skip. Not to mention how Appleseed was suddenly in Luna's bedroom. Hmm, mysterious. I'm gonna guess it just has something to do with Luna's dream-diving abilities.

Well yeah, Slrvertigo added that paragraph after I made my comment, to clarify the passage of time. Originally the scene jumped straight into Celestia welcoming Luna back, so it definitely makes more sense now.
The "I must be dreaming..." bit is new too, although I actually don't think that change was necessary. Maybe my first comment sounded more negative on that part than I intended, because it was sort of an intriguing mystery before, but now Luna spells it out. Oh well, not a big deal, except that Luna shouldn't be worried about waking Celestia if she knows it's a dream. Maybe she's not sure.
In any case, I wonder what Luna plans to do to help them out.

Yea I went back and changed that part just so it wouldn't confuse some people. Luna dismisses the idea of it being a dream after feeling how real Appleseed feels.

I'm guessing that cave with the crystals was probably the mountain below Canterlot.
Aaand, hmm... this chapter's actually kinda hard to comment on, actually. Just have to wait to see what happens next. Maybe the newly unites pony tribes will see Luna and Celestia arguing and immediately assume they were sent as a result of that same magic that beat the Windigoes.
