Hmmmm, maybe Sunset should remind Rainbow that she's at the starting line in a track meet, how many times can she jump the gun?

Typo spotted:
And she, Sunset Shimmer, had been tasted with being the one who led both it and its crew.

tasted should be tasked

:pinkiegasp: Ships damper "amble" condition!
:duck: Never wear Red tunics for a shore party :facehoof: they die!
:moustache: So I get to be a Gorn again?
:raritywink: Spikey makes the cutest alien

Don't phrase it like that, or Dash might take it as a challenge. :twilightoops:

:rainbowdetermined2: "How many guns you got?"

aweome start to the story, hope we also get to see some of the crystal prep characters on board

A little too Star Trek, but that is not a bad thing.
Waiting to see how this will be more hard sci-fi or not, either will be fine by me.
A little more description of the ships or maybe an image would help to set the tone for the technology and the feel of this universe.
I am eagerly awaiting the adventures of the Phoenix.

11745536 Thanks for telling me

Hopefully, they fare a bit better than the USS Phoenix has been.

Interesting to see where this goes. So far, everypony matches their personality, except Pinkie. Maybe a little jolt or incident down the line will make her system go alittle haywire and turn her into the adorable ball of hyper that we all know and love?

Wonder what P-N-K-I stands for anyway?

Spike is secret stowaway maybe? He's not mentioned, but his tag is on the story description, so he must enter the fray at some point.

Looks pretty interesting

Wondering how Spike would be doing?

One of these days, it’s going to be a Barney egg, and we’re all going to be horrified and seeking the nearest source of fire starting material. :rainbowlaugh:

Another good chapter! Good action, good drama, good characterization (not that there was much room for it this time, but there were still some nice quirks, like Rainbows need for speed and Twilight carrying around a regulations book), and good grammar overall. I wouldn't have guessed Caballeron for the first antagonist, but it makes sense considering the big reveal!

Speaking of, nice plot twist at the end! I guess Spike is technically an extraterrestrial in this one! Hmm, I'm guessing that when he hatches, the first one he sees is Twilight, whom he imprints on. Instant mother!

Looking forward to how this'll turn out.

There a few (very minor) science-y quips I noticed though:

It was the orbital outpost, the demarcation point beyond which lay the unknown and the alien.

Um, since it's not orbiting a planetary body (or at least none was mentioned), then it's not an orbital outpost.

Sunset nodded. "Agreed. Target their engines. We can at least try to keep them here." Her orders were carried out as soon as she'd said them, and within moments a single stream of blue light shot forth from the forwardmost point of the Phoenix, hitting the opposing vessel in its rear. After a few seconds, the latter ship began to cease its movement, with clear damage to the hind sections.

This is actually a common mistake/creative license in a wide variety of sci-fi media (along with weapons fire having sound in space, despite there being no medium for sound to travel through). The ship wouldn't cease movement because it was hit. Space, being a near-frictionless and microgravity environment, wouldn't arrest the ship's movement once the propulsion systems went offline. The ship wouldn't increase speed, mind you, but it wouldn't stop either. It'd just keep going unless something like a tractor beam halted it.

11751908 To clarify the first point, the outpost was orbiting the system as a whole, much like the ring of Kuiper Belt around the edge of ours in real life. Sorry if that wasn't clear 😅

So Spike is gonna be a "googoo gaga" plot device instead of a actual character(similar to Sparky in Gen 5)?

That...was actually alot rolled up for a single chapter. Drama, mystery, intrigue, character development, and good heavens the pure emotion.

Good job!

Also, apparently the Phoenix is equipped with some kinda FTL drive, unless Volcanus was still inside their home solar system?

11757306 Yeah, much like a lot of my favourite sci-fi stories, the details of where everything is and how far apart they are is gonna be somewhat fuzzy :twilightsheepish:

Yay! Spike intro - done ...

The fact that Spike is the last of his kind just like that is just.. yikes...

Will he be aged up enough eventually or is he just "googoo gaga" for the entire story or most of it?

Scans show four life signs on the smuggler's ship, they're expecting a hostage, instead they find an egg. Now that's some classic Star Trek plot twist right there.

Ah, a visit from Little Miss Marker Q, with the surprise gift to be revealed.

"A simple 'thank you' would have been appropriate," the fabricator replied.

The moment the computer said this, I was glad to know that Sunset would get the Q-Janeway with a mix of Picard treatment 😆

So, guessing that in this verse Discord is some sort of Progenitor, or their leader?

Heh, I was wondering when/how Pinkie would become, well, Pinkie. This is actually rather ingenius considering how Pinkie in the show is somewhat chaotic. Plus, this'll allow the AI to have limited ability to break the 4th wall and other physics somewhat at times.

Now, how will Sunset convince Equis command not to immediately recall the ship to wipe out the newly rogue AI program? Maybe convince them that it's a sentient lifeform and that would kill it? But then that still leaves a new lifeform in charge of a highly advanced ship with access to all the space command's data and secrets.

And also Sunset now has to worry if their traveling through Travel-Space might be harming the others that actually live there.

"So...erm...is there anything else you can tell us about your people? We're all ears here."

...She's so lucky that Eris didn't turn one of them into a jumble of ears.

Sooo, not that you need one, but was there any particular reason you decided to genderswap Discord?

The bit about Sunset wanting to bring back the Drakkons was very sweet of her to try, though.

11766654 Well, the main reason why I genderswapped was because I didn't want to just copy/paste the character as-is. Everyone else had been tweaked in some way, so I figured I'd do the same with our favourite chaos boy :twilightsheepish:

Seeing Gallus makes me wonder if the rest of the Young Six will show up?
Like Smolder?

I like your take on the griffins. They have the classic Klingon warrior PRIDE! But they're also flat broke, scrounging up whatever they can get their talons on. A very interesting antagonist.

So the Griffons have a mentality similar to the Romulans, but unlike the Romulans, who are more-or-less a technological match to the Federation, the Griffons are far less so.

...I'm not sure if that makes the situation better or worse. An opponent that knows they're outclassed will often resort to dangerous or unconventional tactics.

Heh, I kinda guessed Spike would mature quickly in this fic. In fact, I had him pegged to be a full-out pre-teen within a few weeks, but I wasn't expecting Gallus to be Twilight's assistant before Spike!

Wow! This is fun! Definitely a new favorite. Thank you for sharing this.

ok i am liking this story.
to be honest i am rather surprised this is good.

amazing chapter and Spike is coming along in his growth.

wonder what the next big event is going to be?

Rarirty and AJ were lucky they didn't mess up history.

Also about Spike earlier, I am glad he's quickly growing up(so he can be a actual character).

A pair of glasses (Star Trek The Voyage Home), a fez (Doctor Who The Day of the Doctor), and a toolbox.

Quote Captain Janeway: Temporal mechanics give me a headache.

I quite like this chapter, and how you framed the relationship between Twilight and Spike. In the series, sometimes Spike was overlooked by Twilight because she was so involved in her studies. Here, Spike is the main focus of her studies, and she'll never really ignore him.

"Maybe," Twilight conceded, before looking down to the still-sleeping child. "But time passes a lot faster for us than for you, Pinkie. Sometimes too fast."

This...is actually a very interesting point. On the one hand, Pinkie can multi-task and computate so quickly, that the crew seem to almost be in slow-motion to her. But on the other, time is relative as far as non-AIs are concerned. Pinkie evolves and grows as an artificial lifeform, but she never really ages; to her, so long as her systems and hardware are running at efficiency, then her lifespan is theoretically near-infinite. In seemingly a blink of an eye to us, our children grow up and mature into adults, despite it really taking years. From Pinkie's perspective, it takes forever, and she's lived a thousand lifetimes worth of experience along the way.

Twilight clasped her hands over her mouth, with tears starting to form in her eyes. "Oh! He...he said it! He said my name!"

"Well, technically," Pinkie began.

But Twilight shot her a dark look, silencing her. "Do not take this away from me!"

"...Understood!" Pinkie replied with her usual chipper demeanour.

"Now, can you say "ma-ma"? Say ma-ma! How about "mom-my"? Hmm?"

"Um, Twilight, it's great that you've formed a bond with Spike, but aren't you worried that Command back on the homeworld might think that you've become too emotionally attached to-"

"Now this is a tough one, Spike. Can you say, "computer memory erasure protocol"? Hmm?"

"...I'll shut up now."

"Mmm-hmm."

"Oh Spike... please don't hate us."

Children Learn What They Live

by Dorothy Law Nolte

If children live with criticism,

They learn to condemn.

If children live with hostility,

They learn to fight.

If children live with ridicule,

They learn to be shy.

If children live with shame,

They learn to feel guilty.

If children live with encouragement,

They learn confidence.

If children live with tolerance,

They learn to be patient.

If children live with praise,

They learn to appreciate.

If children live with acceptance,

They learn to love.

If children live with approval,

They learn to like themselves.

If children live with honesty,

They learn truthfulness.

If children live with security,

They learn to have faith in themselves and others.

If children live with friendliness,

They learn the world is a nice place in which to live.

...I don't think you have anything to worry about, Twilight.

Hmm, a happy chapter with no life-or-death trauma. Sunset must be eep-ing with joy internally!

It would be interesting to see what had happened if Twilight had encountered a door and was flung far enough back that she could reasonably try and warn someone that Spike's homeworld was about to destroyed. What would she do? Say nothing and know his world and people would be destroyed and his egg would be orphaned, or try and save them but risk the chances of a far greater, unknown calamity happening as a result?

I knew an anomaly was going to occur this chapter 😂 My trans-temporal-dimensional senses were tingling

Now that Yona has entered the stage, all that is left is Ocellus, Smolder and Sandbar.

11797275
i was thinking the same thing.
but trying to get Yona to accept her los is going to be hard.

Why do I feel like that man Sunset was talking about is Sombra?

So, that could have been an number of figures from human history/now. Or, judging by the unconfirmed nature of his death, could have been Khan Noonian Sing. Or, since this is a My Little Pony story, it could have been Tirek or Sombra.

We may never know...

11803232
That was my thought too.

"Okie-dokie, Loki!" the AI replied.

THERE'S OUR GIRL :pinkiehappy:

Rainbow blinked to her, then rolled her eyes. "Wow, more iron than other asteroids. Good for them," she replied sarcastically.

"I dunno Rainbow, sounds pretty metal to me!" :pinkiehappy:

And caught up, always a fan of Horse Trek™ stories but even without being a crossover you capture the trek vibes very well, and I can't wait to see what else you do with the other races and the rest of this vast new Frontier

hope to see more! Loved this!
