Ever since foalhood, Zipp and Pipp have had a ritual: when Pipp comes down with a routine head cold, her sister looks after her, and they spend time together watching soaps or cartoons on the nearest comfy couch.

What happens, then, when Zipp begins to distance herself from her family in the pursuit of flight?

Oh, oh! Can we watch My Petite Pony? There are new episodes!

Lol nice I miss that feeling of new episodes of mlpfim

Zipp curled her feathers again, and Pipp's lip quivered. Just like that, her facade collapsed, and she trotted forward. She hugged her sister tight, clutching her as if afraid she might disappear at any moment. Painted wings wrapped around her in response, pulling her into awaiting hooves.

Awww that's so precious 😭

Yep, just that cover alone tells me this is adorable.

Aww this was a nice story about the two sisters and how much pipp miss zipp when she got sick zipp always take care of her but zipp been away alot but then pipp told her how much she miss zipp so much and zipp felt really bad she was away from her sister so she makes up to hang out while she was trying to feel better again it was really sweet seeing those two hang out and how much they really character each other this was a pretty nice story keep up the good work

I feel like this goes without saying for your stories at this point, but damn that was incredibly adorable. I love both Zipp's and Pipp's portrayal.

"Seriously? What makes you think I wanna hug you right now?"

You do Pipp. You just don't realize it yet.

"Mom will be home in a few hours from the town hall, by the way. I think she said she’s gonna take me out to get another spa treatment. They feel so nice when you’re all stuffy. Would you mind staying out here with me until then?”

Why do I feel like this is an attempt to drag Zipp out to a family spa day?

"...okay, a follow-up question: do you come with subtitles?"

Not sure how much would subtitles help here.

Oh, of course. Once Haven walks in and sees Zipp spending time with her sister, she'll not be swayed in forcing Zipp to come. :trixieshiftright: Pipp is playing 4D chess.

Thought to use 'translations' but felt 'subtitles' was something more fit for Pipp to say since she lives online. :trollestia:

Always happy to see you're enjoying yourself regardless!

"And I don't have to put on a face around you like I do with the Pippsqueaks. That's so important when I'm sick and don't have the energy to be charismatic."

I REALLY like that line. Because, the Pippsqueaks only know a PORTION of Pipp's life, and even then, that's what she is OK with them knowing. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a lot of things she's never revealed, either because they're too personal, or simply because she doesn't want to reveal. Which is fair.

Glad you pointed this out! Originally, my author's notes for this story was a small essay, but I decided to cut it down and let readers notice things themselves. I can be too ranty. :rainbowlaugh:

That line is a reference to Celestia and Luna, who have a similar relationship. In Royal Problem, Luna says, 'I know you have to be perfect for everpony else—and you do an amazing job—but you don't have to do it for me."

Celestia and Luna are very, very similar to Zipp and Pipp. The introverted sister can be a social breakwater for the more socially-inclined one.

Really, really liked this story! That being said, I'm curious: why does it have to be an AU again? Correct me if I'm forgetting something, but I didn't notice anything that would've stopped this story from just being a prequel to ANG.

11245300

Yep. I imagine even extroverts have moments where they are just running on empty and just want some relative peace and quiet.

11245301
My reasoning was that, my depiction of Zipp and Pipp consoling their relationship contradicts how strained their relationship then seemed to become in the film. Because this story takes place around the same time/ages as the film, but has to come first, Zipp and Pipp would need to have some kind of major fallout between this story and the film's story for it to be canon, and I didn't like inferring a plot hole I didn't plan on filling.

Granted I suppose it's partially my interpretation that their relationship was strained in the first place, but they really didn't get any positive moments together in the film, so there's no more reasonable conclusion to come to imo. So I opted for an altered AU altogether, where I could craft around the pegasi's inability to fly and Zipp's struggle with that while not having to deal with the pre-existing rift that came from the film.

Probably way more convoluted than it needs to be, so apologies. It makes sense in my head but, you're probably right, it doesn't matter that much. :twilightsheepish:

This story is beyond adorable! I love how Zipp can be a nerd/jock at the same time it makes her even cuter. Can I make one recommendation instead of sister hugs how about sister snuggles?

11245423
They're both! Pipp describes it as Zipp 'giving great hugs', but they're actually cuddling. Zipp and Pipp both say as much in earlier parts of the story.

"Stars are the most widely recognized astronomical objects, and represent the most fundamental building blocks of galaxies. The age, distribution, and composition of the stars in a galaxy trace the history, dynamics, and evolution of that galaxy."

Please tell me she's watching Cosmos. Or at least an Equestrian version of it.
Either the Neil DeGrasse Tyson version or the Carl Sagan version...

Man, this takes me back. I remember being a child and annoying my family by insisting on watching documentaries. Of course, that was back when they actually had real documentaries on TV instead of, you know ... 👽
But anyways, this was adorable. Not sure why it was an AU, but adorable none the less.

Not sure why it was an AU, but adorable none the less.

There has been aggressive debate about this in a discord group chat. Best to leave it be. :trollestia: :rainbowlaugh:

Adorable!!!

This is an absolutely heartwarming take on the sisterly dynamic between Pipp and Zipp! I'm super happy it gets explored a bit more.
Fun, loving, well written, well-paced, and with believable characters. Thank you so much for writing this!

Awwwwwww! So cuteeee!

11245702
Well, if I have Bugs' approval, I guess I must be doing something right. :trollestia:

Always cool to hear from proofreaders! Siblings are among my favorite things to write, so I was destined to focus on the Ipp Sisters the second they were announced. Was excited to see TYT give us a few warm moments between them, and hoping MYM will do the same. :rainbowdetermined2:

Thank you for reading it!

This was such a sweet story and I loved how you portrayed the dynamic between them. I could totally see this as a canon G5 episode.

11246532
I'd die of happiness if we ever got canonical sister cuddles or at least an emotional scene and a hug. They really deserve it after their strained relationship in the film. :twilightoops:

For now, the upcoming comic previews seem promising. :pinkiehappy:

Glad you enjoyed it!

Only just got around to reading this now and it's sooo cute :rainbowkiss: Where are my hug plushies? :raritydespair:

That last part was hilarious, i love it. Blasting the Tv (complete with actual science bits!) had me grinning so hard.

The conflict in the first part seemed a bit weaker imo, but I'm guessing that was more of a framing device for the 2nd half, lol.

11258489
Functionally a framing device, yes, the ritual was the point of the story so I didn't want to linger with the drama too long. Just showing the confrontation along with some flashbacks for emotional context on Pipp's part worked out I think.

I thought the way this came out felt natural for their characters—Pipp is emotional so a little sentiment from Zipp goes a long way, and Zipp really didn't have a counter for what is essentially, 'I miss you, why are you never around?' So, Zipp owned up right away after seeing Pipp break down, and they communicated from there.

Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks again! May want to check out my comment again because, in typical fashion I thought of twice as much to say twenty minutes after posting. :rainbowlaugh: My analyst starts to come out when others' do.

Glad you're enjoying the shameless fluff!

Just like with How to Hug your Pegasis I knew I was gonna love this story and I was right ^u^ I love how, no matter what happens, Pipp is always gonna be Zipp's little sis, and she's gonna be there for her as soon as she's called. It's just so wholesome and pure :33
