Somewhere in the USA. Probably older than you. And something about MLP:FIM makes me want to write stories. Unfortunately, being gainfully employed cuts into my writing time.

This story is a sequel to The Best Man

Of course, there’s the little issue that his brother lives in Equestria, magical land of ponies. He may have helped care for his little brother in his childhood, but can he be ready to care for an earth pony colt and an infant unicorn filly?

(This story uses characters from earlier stories, but can be read independently.)

“How hard can it be?”

Foolish human, saying something like that.

What could go wrong? Post in the comments!

What could go wrong?

Well how about a oil leak.

Discord messing with the newcomers

Something ate the diapers

Town is out of stock on formula.

Barnyard Bargains doesn't have his favorite brand of moist towelettes! :raritydespair:

Princess Luna scowls forebodingly at everyone! :raritydespair:

Badgers! Badgers everywhere! :raritycry:

We don't need no stinkin' badgers.

Hmmm... Magic surge sets the house on fire? Monster attack? Stonehoof accidentally breaks something important?

Shall I go on?

“If there’s one thing seeing this world has taught me, it’s that humans and ponies are so similar,” Evan said. “How hard can it be?”

Dude, if there's one thing that a magical works should've taught you is that you should NEVER temp fate. Ever.

They are so screwed now :rainbowlaugh:

Oh, now he's gone and done it. Why do I get the feeling we haven't heard the last of those manticores? Or whatever chased them out of their territory?

I have to admit, if I ever got to go to Equestria, I'd hope to be a pegasus.

Flight envy. And my kids are grown, so thankful there.

Nice source like slice of life, love how you work the little details.

I'd want to be a unicorn. Flying would be fun, but I really want the ability to do anything with my mind (including flying, if you're an OP unicorn like Starlight Glimmer).

On the one hand, an experienced flying coach will definitely help Darlene enjoy Equestria. On the other... Well, we'll see how well April does with keeping her wings to herself.

It took ten minutes for Darlene to ask for help. And when he went in, Evan saw water all over the floor, two dropped brushes, and one upset bat pony covered in shampoo.

Welp, that's the most adorable thing I'll see all day

Yeah, but that's Pinkie's dream, I'm not sure that it counts.

And I'm really enjoying this story, lots of interesting world building. Would be interesting if Darlene meets up with Luna in her dreams after a minor nightmare. Maybe even have Luna arranging for her to meet other batponies.

I suppose I'm weird, given my taste in pizza. Of course, that doesn't come as a surprise to me. :derpytongue2:

In any case, a lovely day out and about in Ponyville. Rose Aurora has been very well behaved... which means I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.

“How hard can it be?”

He has gone and invoked the Curse of Clarkson! Equestria is doomed to be drowned in cart reviews and the escapades of the Pony Stig!

Mwuahaha! Catching up after my work schedule! Is there anything sweeter?

Well maybe seeing some shenanigans and also hopefully some back ground romance with an adorkable princess...

Ha. Famous last words.

Although I am kindof hoping to see the filly make him human somehow stymieing Twilight with the impossibility of it all.

How? How could this filly do this? Then John comes out of the woodwork and calms here down.

Lol. I really wish something similar would happen.

Wahaha! Ok. Different from my mwuahaha! But still sound.

Sounds like some mare won't give up on the polygamy thing.

Great to watch.

Lovely little part of the story, and the kids are just super cute.

Sheesh... I didn't know this existed ^^' I've been VERY lax with checking new stuff on the site, specifically the feed, for the past few months and only came across this by accident. I'm already glad. Sadly I have a backlog of stuff to read and catch up on so I can't just bulk it.

First chapter is great! Stonehoof is an awesome colt. And I still love how you slide world building stuff into your stories.

The next time Evan hears someone complain about their kid, he will be armed for bear.

:fluttershysad: "Oh, but Harry was quite the gentle and playful cub...."

Making pizza dough, dealing with surging babies. Just another day for best uncle!

I just came back from visiting my aunt and uncle and two very young cousins.

Fortunately, the cousins didn't get into anywhere near this much trouble - but I now recognize the feeling.

Great designs for the pony-operated utensils and appliances. A shame about the pizza, though.

The worst pizza is still better than... well, about everything.

Nice to see John's not-a-relationship with Twilight is still continuing apace. Also, fascinating detail with earth foal metabolisms. Passive magic means you don't have learn how to turn it on, you have to learn how to turn it off. Makes sense to me.

Warning: Bathamageddeon approaching. Take cover!

Evan’s eyes popped wide open as he felt the magic flow into him. He felt his mane rise, as if pumped full of static electricity, and his wings felt charged with magic. He had to open them and flap them to make the charge leave his body. After a moment, the feeling of the magic passed. Looking down, Rose Aurora was now smiling and nuzzling into his chest.

Ladies and gentlebeings, this appears to be what we now call an 'anchor' spell, or otherwise known as a 'Permanent Pegasi' charm. Rose likes her uncle, and wants him to stick around, or so it seems.

Now I want to see them run into Cadence, just because it would be fun to see their reaction to it.

“Isn’t that too much water? Aren’t kids supposed to be bathed in only a little water?” For some reason, he recalled the figure six inches, but he couldn’t remember if that was the right amount of bathwater or if that was from some public service announcement warning that children could drown in the bathtub.

You can drown in 2 centimetres of water if you work hard at it. No, the real reason is that too much water and they can—

Too late, he noticed the colt holding up his forehooves.

**Splash!**

Evan and Darlene received one more splash to remind them of this bath.

He was pretty sure ponies would never come up with plastic blister packs, unless there existed somewhere a particularly sadistic unicorn.

I am pretty sure they have top ponies working on it now. Top ponies...

The only ones who seem to be willing to treat it as real are the theoretical physicists. Something about some unified theory.

"And even they get all awkward when you ask about speed of light delay."

Blister Pack does sound like a good name for a malicious unicorn. I'll have to remember that one.

In any case, very fun slice of life for two strangers in a strange land. Thank you for it.

Snake it's a snake. Oh oooh it's a snake...

I can't wait for the next story.

9358232
Dunno if this one is quite finished yet; hopefully it has a chapter or two to go. I'd love to see Stone and Rose thank Evan and Darlene for their help before they go back...

9384584
Hum, maybe. We will find out the next time the author is online.

No, this one is complete. I do have another story in the series in the works, but it will take a while before I post it.

9385141
I thought this story is completed, and I was correct. I can't wait to see the next story when you post it.

9385141
A pity, but that's your decision (I know how hard it is sometimes to find a good place to end a story). Will be waiting for the next story.

“Only weird ponies put mushrooms on pizza.”

“Only weird humans put mushrooms on pizza,”

I'd make a joke about pineapples, but it took me far too long to find out that that was controversial to ever figure out why.

And then I'd be grounded.

Because nobody likes a pedant.

9385141
A while, huh? Was this the pandemic, or were you genuinely expecting it to take this long?

10638573
I have several chapters written for a sequel, but I haven't felt that motivated to write recently.

10638495
I like pineapple, but only in combination with ham or Canadian bacon. Where you could take a pizza with pepperoni and sausage and add mushrooms or bacon or onions or green peppers, pineapple is not something you would add to a pizza with typical toppings.
