No, but I have. Gotta love having escape options when the peasants revolt!
I wonder... What kind of military will he base his off of? Will it be a bit more modern, focused on small group tactics and movement, The large open warfare of Greeks, Persians and Romans, The more 'all we know is charge' of some of the Germany tribes? Maybe a hodge-podge and a mix of all of them, cherry picking the best bits and discarding the rest. I'm curious to see what he decides to do.

Dear author,I'm not gay but I am willing to suck you off if it means that I can read more chapters.
Hey Arelak if you want I could give you ideas based on what I've learned of South Africa culture's history, and military weapons and tactics if you want I'd be more than willing to tell you.

Thank you for the offer but I already have a few books to work with, also this is not based 100% on the truth as it is fantasy. What you have here is a mixture of reality with fantastical impossibility that shall slowly come to light in the future, we are still quite early into the story after all. Feel free to throw things at me though, my books only have so much.

The sources are both historically accurate and also fiction but you will find that fiction is often based on a harsher reality. Consider what the socialists have been doing for decades and what the USSR did with the Cheka. Alexander Solzhenitsyn is a great source of information on the day to day workings but dont limit yourself, you might like to THINK those examples are fiction but they are anything but fiction. A more modern example is Abu Graib where the soldiers used drills to bore holes in the prisoners and it was all photographed, this was not the only methods they were using however. We can only imagine how many more horrors the governments and their secret organizations have perpetrated to date and the CIA admitted once to openly running secret prison camps around the world. What did happen here in the US however was that Congress locked the files and declared that the public is not allowed to know the full extent let alone see the pictures people took after an investigation was called for after Abu Graib. Most of the articles have been expunged unfortunately but you can still find what the japs did to the Chinese if you need source material and to this day the japs openly celebrate these maniac's as national heroes.
You missed some of the most interesting studies ever done by the way:
Stanford prison experiment
Jane Elliott's experiment
