I thought that your account was just for that story
I was incorrect
He better not go vegetarian because of the zebras.
Okay... since his arrival to the savanna he has been manipulated into acting as a meat shield by the Wete, cheated when they payed him less than he was supposed to, then someone tried to frame his friend as a thief in order to abduct her and enslave her, then the soldiers betrayed the many caravans they were protecting allowing bandits to assault them resulting in people getting raped and killed, meanwhile wile Sefu and the other guy keep conspiring behind his back... and he dares to call "Earth" dishonest in nature? What a hypocrite.
The more this story progresses the more i think the protagonists dislike of this world is due to its complexity and orderly nature rather than what he claimed, he calls zebra-land a hellhole and immediately after he complains he wouldn´t be able to murder people freely on earth without being judged by others without realizing how this two things are related.
The allure of a new world of wonders and magic is something everyone can empathize with... but he´s starting to look more like a sociopath whose apathy for humanity has lead him to prefer a world of war, cruelty and savagery over earth. It is not magic and wonder that allures him any longer, but lawlessness and disorder and his underlying thirst for violence. This could make for an interesting tale if used properly but his contempt for a stereotype of earth keeps pushing me away for truly liking the story.
On the plus side the fact that Asha keeps challenging his ideas could mean this was intentional and that she will provide contrast to his worldview keeping the interactions between this two characters interesting.
Anyway the author is a good writer so ill follow this a bit longer.
This is a very good talking point; Is a land more opportunistic when unexplored or is capitalism, hence the land where Verik came from, more so? While you could build anything out there in the vast land of Zebrica, America has equal opportunity with no discrimination of race, religion, or nationality.
