Can't help but think Shiny's making a big mistake here...
That was tense... And we still haven't actually seen Mephistopheles!
I believe Shining Armor's living up to the courage his name implies. Being a willing scapegoat like that takes serious guts...
Scared4Shiny
I feel he might be taking too big of a risk here... DON'T DO IT!
And Mephi- ah fuck it, I'm scared to see that. Plus the freak show named Somebitchslut shimmer.
Mm....
On another note,
The staggered updates, every two days? Or every other because its 2 days before Tuesday....
Like I Said before any deal with the devil only ends well for the devil himself.
When [Redacted] finally collects on the price for Sunset's little power trip, I really think she's gonna end up either in a vegetative state or straight up dead.
You don't get to become something as powerful as a wild card from a non benevolent source without the end cost being quite high.
Well... fuck. Just fuck.
6418913 Every other day beginning Tuesday.
Well, now the whole dorm (and Apple family) knows. That's probably a good thing, I'd say. What Cadance had to say about her readings of Sunset was... interesting.
Edit: Oh, yeah, nice to see Judgement rank up.
Edit 2: And this chapter weighs in at 12,482 words, all told.
6418897
at this point Shining can't do much else than draw the psychotic megalomaniac out.
it's a shame that he won't be getting a persona (at least as far as Moth has said, although Sonata wasn't supposed to either so we could be pleasantly surprised by Moth and Zef reconsidering that possibility). I have a feeling the Zodiac Investigation Team/Zodiac Emergency Response Group could use as much help as possible for the eventual Confrontations with Sunset and especially [Redacted] when he stops being the man behind the woman so to speak, and takes center stage on his little game.
6418923
Ah okay.
So Shining is finally in on the secret. It's a good thing he's not a cop in this fic, or I would imagine he'd probably try to arrest, or failing that, shoot Sunset's ass like any rational person would. Kinda makes me wonder why Rarity hasn't given Sunset a new facehole by now though. Great chapter!
6419016
Because taking violent action against Sunset Shimmer in the real world is not going to solve the Zodiac problem; the reason why was revealed in the chapter where 'Eris' was unmasked (or the the chapters following that). Besides, any real world violence is all but guaranteed to get the authorities involved at which point things get real messy.
6418897
Shining doesn't have a choice, the only way to not get dragged into Zodiac is to remove himself from the system. As befits his name, Shining is not taking the easy way out. Especially not while his wife and sister (plus his future brother in law) are risking their lives trying to fix the problem.
Ps I'm concerned about how Silver Spoon is going to react to this event. Unlike Apple Bloom, she doesn't have anyone to comfort her and explain things after going back to the real world.
Hmmm, the info from Cadance plays into some of my personal theories.
6419121
True, but it would probably solve the Sunset problem.
6419180
At the cost of real world fallout that keeps them from solving the more important Zodiac problem. And I don't think Sunset's even the real problem here; she's just being empowered/used by whatever eldritch entity is actually responsible for Zodiac.
I just had a theory.
The hunter shadow Leo didn't show up. Sunset Shimmer was a Leo correct? Provided I'm not remembering that wrong. Cadence said that she scanned Sunset as both human and shadow. What if Sunset and Leo fused somehow?
Either way, even if it's not true, it'll still be a mystery as to why or how something like that happened.
6419195
I mean, yeah I get that she has contingencies in place if she is harmed or captured, and that it's possible she herself is also a victim of a bigger threat. But at some point you have to stop and wonder if trying for a perfect win is worth constantly facing the mortal danger she poses, or the shit she's pulled.
6419228
I'm saying just shooting her is just going to make things worse. Not only do they still have to deal with the Zodiac problem, they now have legal problems complicating things even further. Remember, as far as real world authorities are concerned, there's no evidence to prove that Sunset has done anything that would justify killing her. The only way that might work is if Sunset tried to kill someone in the real world and got killed in self defense (I'm not sure if this is how the law works on this matter or if it even applies in PEG-verse), and she's not dumb enough to do that.
Ps. Even if they do manage to prove that Sunset is guilty of something deserving the death sentence, they still can't just kill her themselves without repercussions.
6418918
Here's a scary thought. What if there was no deal with the devil?
It's just a theory at this point, but the further this story goes, the more I associate Sunset Shimmer with Takehisa Kandori (with Mephistophales being Nyarlathotep) from the very first Persona game. Especially since like Nyarlathotep before him (or it could just be him), Mephistophales is maskerading as her persona while in fact, it's something a lot worse. And to top it all off, Kandori and Nyarlathotep fused together near the end of the game.
It has never been made clear, but from what I've gathered (and I may be remembering wrong), Nyarlathotep appeared like a normal persona and never revealed it's true colors until the last moment. That kinda makes you wonder if Sunset made a deal at all.
Hell, with the revelation that she can transform into a shadow, I'm beginning to wonder if there's anything left of Sunset Shimmer in that body (My original theory was that Sunset Shimmer was long dead and that it was Nyarlathotep impersonating her. I'm still not sure if I can consider it valid or not with this revelation).
6419222
That's a theory that has been making the rounds for awhile.
Remember back when she raped Flash? The fortune for the day was something along the lines of "The Lioness is on the hunt." Also, several of the early boss shadows were lion types, including the ones that fused into freaking Voltron.
6419242
Well, they don't have to shoot her infront of the entire student body or anything. Just... discreetly stalk her a while and... okay, I get it's ugly and risky, and they couldn't possibly hope to prove she was an imminent threat if they were caught, but that doesn't seem worse than having to fight her or the shadow baddies she forces them to fight everytime she drags someone into the Zodiac. I'm just being argumentative though, I get that Batman doesn't murder the Joker, no matter how much he obviously deserves it.
6419266
(P2: Innocent Sin Spoiler): I believe something similar happened with Jun Kurosu/Joker with Nyarlathotep masquerading as his Persona and forcefully merging with him during the boss fight. Although he survived the experience and joined the party afterwards.
6419283
Honestly, any sane legal authority probably should be able to justify killing the Joker after everything he's done. There's a reason the trope is called 'Joker Immunity'.
For the Sunset problem, if there were a way to off her in real world without complicating things to the point where they can't deal with Zodiac until its too late, that might be quicker solution. But when you consider how hard it is to realistically pull that off, they'd actually be better off fighting her in Zodiac.
Do remember that this is a Persona 'game'. Going by P3 and P4, the closer you get to the endgame the more OP the protagonist tends to get. By the time the final battle with her rolls around, it would probably be easier to just fight her normally as opposed to trying to do anything in the real world.
Ps The point I was trying to make is if they get caught murdering/trying to murder Sunset, there'll be no one left in the position to do anything about Zodiac. I'm guessing this is the same reason Fluttershy hasn't turned herself in for everything she's done as Eris.
6418946
Nobody agreed to that name EVER and if I see it again I'm thumping you.
6419306
Heh yeah. I like Batman. Anyway, in regards to Fluttershy, I get the feeling she's probably gonna get off scott free, despite the horrid things she's done. Nobody is going to turn her in after this is all over, and even if she does admit to the crazy shit she's done to people, something will have happened to the evidence probably, or Amethyst Star will still be too afraid to come forward or something. I kind of found Fluttershy to be just as bad as Sunset tbh, but the team warmed up to her pretty damn quickly anyway, all things considered.
So, Silver Spoon might wind up with a persona, maybe. Incredibly doubtful, but she did see one half of Gemini. Unfortunately for her it was the exceedingly weird one. Also, thinking about styles of combat, but Shining could go with a shield and sword combo. It would be almost more difficult to hide than Flash's axe but it would suit him.
I'm starting to thing there's another behind Sunset and I don't think that it's her persona.
Well, there's a lot of intriguing data to process here. Whatever Sunset's doing seems like it shouldn't be possible, but that just reflects her unparalleled understanding of Zodiac. There's one potential source of knowledge that Flash doesn't seem to haveconsidered... and that, knowing him, he probably won't. Still, who better to answer questions about Personas than the residents of the Velvet Room?
As for revealing the secret... I suspect this was a massive miscalculation on Sunset's part. She has contingencies in place, yes, but the number of people in on this is getting unwieldy. The more people know a secret, the more likely it is to get out, and I'm not sure how much longer everyone can hold this one in.
6419636
As much as I want Shining to get a Persona, I doubt there's going to be anymore party members.
6419338
I think Fluttershy is better off than Sunset for one key reason; she acknowledges that she has done some horrible things and wants to atone for them.
Relevant quote: "When you screw up, especially when you know you have screwed up, trying to make it right still counts."
Modified from the original quote here.
6419673 True, but if he did, I bet that would be his weapon of choice.
6419705
Also true, but he could also end up with a completely different weapon just to subvert expectations. Look at Flash, how often does an RPG protagonist use an axe as his weapon of choice?
Shiny having a Persona.. I wouldn't mind seeing that. I know it won't happen but it would be cool.
Amazing, MM. You never fail to amaze me with your work
But when this story ends, I'm gonna cry my eyes out because I love this so much. This is so addicting. I wish there could be a sequel
Also, Flash hasn't talked to Juan in a while
6419750 Fair point, but (P4) Kanji uses a metal chair. Then there's Akihiko with boxing gloves.
6419935
Was referring to how Z.I.T. doesn't quite fit the traditional weapons of choice they tend to get in most humanized stories. In most such stories, the mane 6's weapons of choice are usually somewhere along these lines:
Twilight: Staff (occasionally a spear)
Rainbow: Twin daggers/short swords or a polearm of some kind
Pinkie:only one not consistently portrayed with any one favored weapon. Exception: in settings where it is appropriate, she nearly always has a large cannon-like weapon.
Rarity: Rapier
Applejack: Usually unarmed (with accompanying gauntlet and armored boots), occasionally a two handed sword
Fluttershy: Bow, sometimes a shield
Also, I've never read a humanized story where Shining does not use the sword and shield combo. Flash Sentry hasn't appeared in enough of these types of stories to have acquired a 'default' weapon of choice, but as the main protagonist, he'd be expected to be using a sword of some kind.
PS I'm overanalyzing things
PPS The Black Butterfly app more or less negates the real world concerns of any weapon they'd want to use.
6419636 1. Seeing the Shadow is NOT the prerequisite for Persona awakening. If Silver Spoon was going to be a party member, it would have happened in the chapter. 2. They stopped needing to hide weapons when they got Black Butterfly, remember?
6419989
Because he's not a Pokemon?
6419989 What 6420035 said.
6419987 True about the Butterfly app.
you know if you could get someone to animate this fan fiction just do the first 5 chapters see if people like it then keep going from there.
You know what really grinds my gears?
When one is planning to sit and surf the web for a while before leaving the house, and suddenly being called because "we're leaving now," then you close your browser, turn off your computer and get dressed in a dash in order to be ready to leave. That's not the grinding part, the grinding part is when you do all of that but you don't leave before an entire hour and a half! Or when you leave inmediately, but the thing you are going to is open an hour later. So one just lost an hour where you could have been reading because SOME PEOPLE don't know how to manage time.
That's why this comment is coming up late.
Onto the chapter itself: there's nothing much to say actually. It is a closure to our little five parter, and other than that, the only things that stood out to me are the "answers" to some of the not-so-sharp questions that have been coming up in the comment section.
This day is over, and the "Friendship" has become stronger, even though they are now seeing just how powerless they are compared to the enemy. Then again (P3 spoilers) The Nyx Extermination Squad was forged despite the futility of their efforts to stop Nyx.
6419317
I'm going to quote a part of zef's comments as seen here 6014791
I still have the opinion that the name you threatened to hit me over was a better name for flash's group.
But since you did not agree on that I placed the name you originally came up with FIRST (as in Zodiac Investigation Team being placed before Zodiac Emergency Response Group in my comment).
This was out of respect for your opinion on the matter.
Could you please respect mine and on the rare occasion I use the group's name allow me to express my opinions on which name better suits the protagonist's party?
If not I'll simply avoid using either name when mentioning the Hero Party in further comments.
6421548 I don't think you actually understand what Zef was talking about back then. He was talking about the readers respecting each others' opinions and not starting distracting, ugly flamewars in the comments.
You're trying to use that to defend your "opinion" of what a better name for the Fool Social Link would be. Against the author and creator. And that's not how it works.
Respecting the opinions of others is not the same as annoying the author by persisting to be toilet-cloggingly unfunny and then whining when I call you out on it.
Because I'm the author, I own this story, I control this comments section, and I do not have to put up with your shit.
Keep that in mind in the future.
6421548 You misunderstand. When I posted that response to you, it was because other readers were chastising you over a separate topic. But when you go against the author's request? It's one thing to suggest something, it's another to declare --even as your opinion-- that your option is better. Especially in a combative way like this. Moth had only said he'd "thump" you; that's not offensive or confrontational at all, that's just saying, "Hey, don't make this a thing." Your response here is entirely disproportionate to that one.
It's not your opinion that caused the confrontation, it was the tone you initiated it with. :/
6421613
duly noted
It will not be mentioned again as to avoid being annoying or unfunny (although my intention was not meant to be either)
I will stick to comments on the story itself and avoid commenting on things that are pet peeves or unintentionally whining on those subjects.
You will not have to put up with any more nonsense from me sir.
6421634
Apologies on this misunderstanding.
I had not meant to be confrontational. I failed.
As I said to moth the subject will not be brought up again.
6421613 DUDE! IS THIS REALLY PERSONA x MLP!? YEEEEEEEESSSSSSS!
I'm just noticing now, in "LTE" Flash's smuggy-mug in the corner of the page looks a bit larger, and the "Persona, Zodiac and Horoscope icons" are now gone. Any particular reason for that?
6423629 Simplified redesign. I needed to install new graphics for other characters in that space and had forgotten how I did Flash's in the first place, plus I remembered running into difficulties doing Twilight's old corner piece and didn't want to repeat that experience. It's less cluttered and easier to manage for future additional POV profile pics.
6423694
Ah, fair enough
