Flash does make a good point here.
I regret nothing!
5277581 I cannot begin to tell you how many times I heard that joke!
Also looks like someone read/saw 'Game of Thrones' and decided on the Arya Stark method of fencing.
5277613
No.
Not exactly a department store food court, but hey, at least it's private, right?
And we're gonna get some action, sweet!
5277637 What?! 'Stick them with the pointy end.' I thought it was a given.
5277659
What he means to say is: 1) Twilight isn't the one that doesn't know how to use a sword, and 2) That line is most likely a reference to "El Zorro", where Antonio Banderas gave this as an answer to Anthony Hopkin's question. "Do you even know how to use a sword?" "Yeah, the pointy part goes inside the man."
Nothing much to say about the chapter, but nice things are moving forward. I can't wait till tomorrow.

5277697 Glad SOMEBODY got it. Flash's comment about the sword was a reference to The Mask of Zorro, where Diego de la Vega (Anthony Hopkins) is training Alejandro Murrieta (Antonio Banderas) as his successor.
Coco & Twilight have the same friendship levels...
Twilight is Flash's GF...
think about it
5278720 Both story reasons and Persona logic are to blame for this.
It's normal for a social link that was progressing rapidly to suddenly just trail off as your attempts to advance that link only reward you with "You feel like your relationship may become stronger soon..." or whatever, and you start spending time working on Social links that are only available on certain days. In the games, I've gotten Magician up to rank 7 in the first month, then along comes late November and OH CRAP I haven't touched this link in MONTHS! Or, alternately, opportunities to advance that link just suddenly stop being available.
Story reasons: Twi's Social Link slowed to a crawl for reasons.

Well, that explains it. I never saw it.
5279269 You really should. It's a cinematic masterpiece and easily the best Zorro film of all time.

"This isn't real life" is a terrible excuse. Like I know the EQG universe can barely hold itself up under scrutiny but come on. Don't sink to the level of the show writers themselves. And even if the two bullies weren't the focus. And even if the story is being told from Flash's perspective, it still fails. Why? Where was the build up? Where was the tension? Were there any hints that this attack was forth coming? I didn't see any. At least give that much. Otherwise its like "Oh Dash got attacked. Well that happened." It happened and then it gets wrapped up. What was the point?
The explanation given by principal Celestia was lazy and rushed. You could have weaved that little bit of exposition into the story.
5280672 Why would there have been buildup? Flash isn't on the soccer team. He didn't know she was up for captain. SHE didn't know she was up for captain. Violence born out of jealousy, anger, or frustration doesn't necessarily have any buildup. Sometimes...MOST times, in fact, in real life...it's very sudden and has NO warning signs whatsoever.
I do appreciate valid criticism on my stories, but your criticism comes across more as complaining, and doesn't really hold any value as criticism. Therefore, I'd appreciate if you'd stop complaining about this.
Thank you, and have a nice day.

Actually, I'll invoke Death of the Author, because there WAS buildup... within the overall state of affairs at school. Flash and Rainbow's violent outbursts earlier in the story --which almost got him, and did get her suspended-- might have escalated tensions at school in general, to the point that rivals who would have otherwise just jeered and gossiped against her felt that they were justified in physically assaulting her.
Or maybe they didn't, and the two thugs were just plain nasty and would have done that even if Rainbow were the nicest girl in school.
Or maybe they were even friends of the two cafeteria girls. Or maybe they had been jealous or resentful for a very long time, and planned the attack among themselves. Maybe they did give her the evil eye every time they ran into her in class, or insulted her and threatened her, and she either didn't notice or thought it was trash talk, not worth sharing with her friends at the dorm. (She's "supposed to be tough", in her own words.)
Again, there could have been a thousand and one ways for them to build up to that moment. There could have been a thousand and one reasons for them to do what they did. They could have given a thousand and one warning signs. But they could have happened completely without Flash's knowledge. Or Dash's knowledge. Or any authority's knowledge. Or, in fact, without anyone's knowledge but their own.
That's how real life works.
And that's the "problem" with our limited, personal view of life --and the entire point of the nuPersona games. Unless we actively create bonds with other people, we'll never know what motivates them, what lives they lead beyond passing them in the school halls. Everything they do, from our isolated, ignorant perspective, is sudden and without buildup. Flash, particularly, knows nothing of the two thugs who assaulted his friend; and by this point, they're at least expelled and at most in jail, so it would take an active effort from him to seek them out, find out why they did what they did, and what their personalities are like.
Look at Persona 4's Kanji. He's infamous as a thug who rides with motorcycle gangs to beat up rivals. He even looks the part. And if the Protagonist never bothers initiating an S.Link, there's very little in the main plotline to dispel that notion, and a player can even characterize the Protag as someone who doesn't care about Kanji beyond his usefulness as a brawler. Even if you do initiate an S.Link, the very first thing you hear about him is that he's bullying schoolmates --which comes so out of the blue, without any hints or warning signs, that the Protag outright confronts him (angrily, if you so choose) to berate him about it.
Of course, it's cleared up immediately as a false accusation, and both Kanji and the Protagonist learn from it. The two jocks who jumped Rainbow? Not so much. And it's entirely up to Flash to weigh their crimes against his and his friends' values, and decide whether it's worth trying to find a core of goodness in those two.
As for "what was the point" --the point is that Rainbow, and her relationships with other people, have been changed by the attack. She's fortunate in that she can make a full recovery, and so she'll be able to learn and grow as a person (and she's been brought closer to her friends, who also learned something, in their own way, and the dorm's support structure has tightened). But she still LOST a lot of time with the soccer team, and she might still lose her shot at team captain, so she'll still have to deal with that and recover from it. Her character development is the point.
I would love to hear Shining's point of view on his disintegrating marriage, if only to see if he seems to be magically effected or not.
Oh! Well, this is a pleasant surprise.
I do wonder what's bugging Shining Armor. Part of it could be Cadance's stress from the paranormal investigation, but I suspect there's more there than what we yet know.
The tennis team has gone nuts for Coco. Suri's retribution, if any, will be extremely hard to come by.
And the team headquarters is established. Definitely looking forward to Twilight's first intentional brush with the supernatural.
I was a little scared to read this thinking it was going to be a copy of an actual persona game (well one that I know I've only played 3 and 4) I'm glad I can put those fears to rest. I can't wait for the next update.
Was listening fo Afternoon Break the last five chapters. Gonna keep doing that with future chapters.
5280672 You sir, have been burned
5280703 Shall I get the Ice?
6444710
Nah, don't get the ice. Let this one simmer.
When there's trouble, you know who to call!
So, Twilight hasn't gone up in ranks...is that because 5 is the highest? (Never played the game)
Cause honestly, I was getting confused/worried that Rank 5 for any girl meant they looked at Flash that way...
7606757
10 is the highest. Usually you don't get the date option until between the 5th to 8th Rank. Flash was lucky to get her as a GF earlier, but it works. Although sometimes you don't rank up immediately, but have to spend time with someone till you can rank up. And most forced events don't count towards rank ups. Unless it's with an Auto-Ranked SL.
Twilight, hate to break it to you, but Shining Armor has always been an idiot.
