Man, poor Vynil. As a person who has found the idea of going blind terrifying, I can really sympathise with her.
And look, Zodiac Expedition in three more days. That's good.
Yeah, because reminding the girl who is going blind that she is going blind always works out well.
Things aren't looking that bright for Vinyl. I'm not expecting some kind of magical cure for blindness, but this is pretty darn depressing for that far in the Link. Well, maybe she'll turn a corner soon. Hopefully.
5746083 Vinyl's Social Link storyline has personal significance to me, and I'm literally reliving some of my worst fears writing it.
At the age of 19, I was diagnosed with cataracts in both eyes. I had cataract surgery to each eye, six months apart. My doctor found a small tear in my right retina, which was the first eye he operated on, and that tear concerned him, but the cataract had to go.
For seven months after the first surgery, there didn't seem to be any problems. Then, while I was recovering from the second (to my left eye), I started having greyness in the vision in my right eye. I went to the doctor, he took one look, FREAKED OUT, and IMMEDIATELY sent me over to Austin to a retina specialist. That afternoon, I learned that my right retina was detached, and I was going to lose sight in my eye. There was a surgery they could perform that would eat my savings for lunch and had a 50/50 chance of restoring peripheral vision in that eye. It took all of ten minutes for me to decide to let the eye go. There was absolutely no benefit to undergoing a surgery that'd lay me flat on my back for six months that ultimately would not benefit me in any tangible way.
For the next four months, I endured the slow loss of vision in my right eye, and since it was a retinal detachment, well...let's just say there were days I could not get out of bed because of the INTENSE pain.
Since then, I've also developed severe scarring on the cornea of my good eye from a viral infection. So anything related to eyesight, blindness, losing an eye, etc...it's one of my personal emotional triggers. That's why the Vinyl Scratch social link is really killing me to write. It's also why I know about greyouts. You have to have lived through that to know about it.
I really don't want Vinyl to be blind.. She is awesome.
5745811 Yes, thank you.
5746442 My God. Seriously, I'm sorry. You are truly strong, Mythril Moth.
I feel for Vinyl as well. I've never had anything that severe happen to me, but I'm good at empathizing with others.
5746782 Strength is nothing more than refusing to let life's setbacks deter you from enjoying what you enjoy doing. Though truthfully, if I didn't have all the hobbies and interests I have to keep my mind occupied, I'd have fallen apart years ago. (I actually HAVE had more than my share of breakdowns...the eye thing is a drop in the bucket for what I've been through in my 37 years on this planet, but I'm not getting into any more of it. )
5746813 That's fine. Thank you for sharing as much as you have.

And I'm sitting here... waiting for something interesting to happen with my life... man I'm a slob
What you've endured and came over is really amazing, and even more amazing that you confided it to everyone that reads the comments. Now I'm seeing you under a new light (sorry for the "seeing" remark )
5746898 Don't apologize for it And I'm just as much of a slob as anyone. I've just lived that old famous Chinese curse a little too hard.
5746442 .....Heiliger Gott des Himmels uns helfen! You have my sympathies, Mr. Moth.
Well, I hope things go well for Vinyl. Though the previous Sun Links make me think she's not going to get better physically, I hope she at least is able to come to turns with things.
Well, looks like we get a Zodiac visit in a few days, so that's good!
5746442 I feel your pain. I am a former marine, and got shrapnel caught behind and eye. for the last three months, I have been dealing with the retinal nerves fraying till eventually, they will rip. surgery for it would be JRPG hidden boss hp high. You're really capturing the struggle with vinyl perfectly.
Honestly i dont like the relationship between vinyl and octavia here it kinda forced, i mean flash told her that vinyl is going blind and that pretty much creates an emotional thing about doing something out of kindness. Like a farvor
Then the reason of Tavi turning down all boys is really annoying and also ignorant
