OK First of Fluttershy only... Oh... Oh wow OK now this is something to think about but Sunset went. No Fluttershy did that too... The only think I can say sunset did that Fluttershy didn't is something I don't want to type.
Damn, that's some food for thought, personally, I think she does, at least the moment she is actually redeemed, and I just read the first chapter of Persona: EG If, so I've got no love for her.
For now, she's still the villain, but when that's done, then I'll really start thinking about it, and only then.
Hell no she doesn't deserve it. The thing is Flash and co. got to know Fluttershy (sort of), and that's what drove them to give her a second chance. And even then, it took a long ass time for everything to settle down. Sunset? She was a bitch from day 1.
Ehh...
Was Sunset given a first chance?
If I remember right, she was called a bitch by damn near everybody from Flash's perspective, so...

There is one key difference between Fluttershy and Sunset. It has been hinted during previous interactions with 'Eris' that Fluttershy has been remorseful about what she has been doing and is only continuing to do what she did due to Sunset's blackmail. Part of the reason they eventually warmed up to her is because she acknowledges that she has done some horrible things and is trying to make things right.
Sunset on the other hand has never shown any signs of being sorry or feeling guilty for all the crap that she has done. Just forcing herself into the dorm like she did and expecting them to be friends with her just like that is not going to work. While she does have a point in how Flash is judging her, Sunset doesn't exactly have the moral high ground here.
Shit... she really does have a point, doesn't she?
6801586 No she doesn't.
Food for thought, eh moth? You have most in the comments questioning their hostility to sunset. Me? If she's really trying, she needs to try a whole lot more.
The only real point Sunset has is how they gave Fluttershy a second chance despite being as bad as her. She doesn't deserve one however because unlike Fluttershy Sunset feels no sorrow for anything, she even said she was only pretending to be sorry which doesn't count at all. If she really wanted to prove she can be like others then she should start by getting rid of all the blackmail she has on everyone.
The problem for Sunset is that she's never bothered to even try to put on a polite facade. Fluttershy was able to maintain the mask and do it believably. Sunset has built up such a reputation for being a conniving, backstabbing bitch that anything she does is automatically suspect. Fluttershy tried to be close to others on a surface level. Sunset... didn't. Ever. Maybe if she explains more about her past, I might sympathize with her, but even then, her reputation precedes her. She could be talking completely out of her ass, trying to coax Flash into a vulnerable state.
This is the hole you've dug, Sunset. At this point, asking people to throw down a rope just makes them think you're going to drag them down with you. Sucks to be you.
Sunset has a point about Fluttershy but I do see one thing that is different between the two of them. Fluttershy has shown that she truly wishes to make amends for what she has done, while Sunset has shown nothing to make us even think she even feels real remorse for what she has done. In Simple Terms, Both Fluttershy and Sunset are covered in the Hellfire from Zodiac, but only Fluttershy actually wants Purifying Water poured on her, while Sunset is just putting on an act.
Wow, it's so interesting because I was just reading something today about judgment and observation without judgment. The ending of this chapter really put that into perspective. Sure, Eris was twisted and a bitch, and it took a while for them to forgive Fluttershy, but in the end they did. Why CAN'T we forgive Sunset Shimmer?
Why can't I forgive Sunset Shimmer? Who knows, maybe she really is just a sad individual...
Well played Mythril Moth. Well played indeed. This story once again took me THERE...

Huh, awesome
Uh, you raped him. I'm never gonna not bring that up.
Oh wow. That last exchange... Real food for thought there.
What can I say that hasn't been said already? Fluttershy is actually asking for forgiveness, while Sunset... she's not helping her own case with anything. She forced herself into the dorm, is actively trying to drive a wedge into a marriage, acting-out in the most indecent manner. She cried "wolf" too many times, who can trust in her?
Flash needs to hold his ground. If he falters just once, it'd be too much.
This was a pleasant surprise. Can't wait for thursday.
6801933 You got three of them and were dreadfully wrong on the rest. Sorry!
Incidentally, good readers: The contest is now over, and nobody won. I'll post a list of the correct answers in a blog post momentarily.
6802507 Not so sure about that Rarity one.
I'm calling bullshit on everything Sunset's said in this chapter. Fluttershy pulled more than her fair share of shit, but she never raped anybody, and once she realized just how messed up Sunset really was, she tried to stop helping her and support the ZIT instead, even if she did a really crappy job of it at first. In fact, the absolute worst thing she did (driving a teacher to suicide) was unintentional, and it is implied, from my point of view at least, that she felt remorse for that even before Eris was finally purged from her soul. In fact, she seems to have felt remorse for a lot of things from the beginning, even if she didn't want to admit it, even to herself. Sunset has no remorse for anything, and she admitted from the start that her plan to get closer to the gang is simply for the sake of learning their weaknesses and destroying them, and the way she's whining about how "nobody wants to be friends with me" now is the pinicle of hypocrasy. Hell, I seriously doubt the plan was even her idea in the first place (I won't elaborate on that because there is just too much that I don't know right now to form a comprehensive theory).
Flash's opinions are his own, so I won't comment on that, but I would love it if a future rank up involved him calling Sunset out on how she created her own private hell. And if things end with them becoming friends, that's it for me, I'm done with this fic. Forgivness, that's fine, but friendship is off the table for me. The lady I overheard commenting on a yuri manga with a vaguely similar premise (I forget the name) said it best; you don't get back together/become friends/whatever with someone who raped you.
Flash, remember, the reason Flutters was as bad as Sunset was because Sunset was BLACKMAILING Flutters. Don't think you can forgive her yet.
Well, I hope that Flash and Cadance are right and her not being with them won't be a problem.
Also, MythrilMoth, I spotted an error, I'm sorry to say:
6803012 Fixed. You know, you don't need to add all the qualifiers. Just say "typo" and point it out.
6803067 KO awesome chapter, least tell us that Shining Armor won't fall for Sunset's tricks and can't wait to see more fights along the way.
6803067 Okay. By the way, do you have a specific country in mind that Zebrica's an expy of, or is it just "Generic Sub-Saharan African Country"? Probably the latter, but I thought I'd ask.
6804065 Eh, it's just generic African place.
Hahahahaha Damn! Great joke pal~
Deep Thoughts, with Flash Sentry.
Sunset missed a very big difference between her and Fluttershy, however:
Fluttershy actually fucking meant it when she tried to atone for her sins.
Sure, she acted like a total bitch when they found out, but she did genuinely try to make up for it after she got rid of Eris and awakened Echo. I even reread that chapter, and she says,
Unless I've forgotten, Sunset has never once shown any real remorse for her actions (she even said that she liked controlling people's lives at one point).
POW! RIGHT IN THE KISSER!
