... So this whole weekend is going to be Cadance cheating on Shining?
No wait it's "okay" because Shining allows it. Even though he was clearly pained by the suggestion when he said it to Flash.
But, as long as Shining says it's okay, his actual feelings don't matter, as long as Cadance is happy and pleasured.
Edit since I have more thoughts...
At this point, I have the feeling that Shining appears to have about this. Resignation. It's going to be bad, Shining's feelings appear to be treated like they don't matter while Cadance, and Flash, and his sister get to be as happy and pleasured as they want to be, and Shining conspicuously does not get any of that.
Seems like the paradigm is that if Cadance just kept hurting him repeatedly, eventually he'd just say it's okay that she does the thing that hurts him.
6089589 Only when he isn't around. The rest of the time, he's taking care of business himself. He knows what the beach does to Cadance. He hasn't given her a blanket pass to be a slut with everyone close to her. It's the same thing Flash got from Twilight: a pass to behave badly for one week.
6089589
This is what I think is called an open relationship? Maybe? While not all parties may be thrilled with the circumstances, it's generally better for everyone's mental and often, emotional health because it's out in the open and any issues can be worked out. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, that its being done with people both parties know, and that generally care about them, and they'll take every step needed to make it safe and pleasant. Also, they'll take steps to put as little strain on those bonds as possible.
Damn, Fluttershy's being a real bitch.
6089651
"Just for one week" doesn't really change that Shining gets the short end of the stick again. His wife gets screwed by Flash again, even though it's clear he doesn't want this, circumstances just so happened to conspire to essentially force Shining to share his wife with Flash or face even worse consequences, if even temporarily, no matter what he wants.
And I get the sense Twilight isn't saying that Flash is being given the ability to behave badly this week, but that she intends that both of them will. That what 6089658 said is true for Twilight and Flash: for one week they are opening their relationship.
But for Shining, the only person for whom the relationship is "opened" is Cadance. She's the one that benefits from this, Shining only benefits that things don't get worse faster.
6089702 Which is how you see it, and I understand that. The plain truth is, the readers are only privy to Flash's point of view, and Flash isn't privy to the private conversations Shining Armor and Cadance have had. IS this the reality of the relationship? Or IS it that Shining Armor loves his wife so much that he's willing to let her play around a bit when she's away from home, just because he knows that's her thing? Or could it even be that he secretly enjoys the thought of Cadance doing naughty things with his little sister? (You seem to be harping so much on the Flash thing that you completely missed the rest of that...)
The fact is, we simply don't know what's going on behind the closed doors of that apartment. We don't know what's going on in Shining Armor's mind.
So you can sit there and complain about him getting shafted all you want...or you can take a minute to think that maybe there's more to all this than meets the eye.
Flash is one really lucky guy.
Oh ho ho ho! It has gotten more interested indeed.
The Truth and Dare segment was interesting, even if it only went for one round. Some funny stuff, some tame... and then there was what Fluttershy asked.
I think she wanted to hear what Flash thought of her in that way, but I guess she didn't expected that low of a blow. I feel bad about this, but considering everything that's been going on, I believe that comment was well deserved.
Flash does need to apologize though. And not only for throwing 'Shy as low as Sunset Shimmer, but for everything he did to her. That could go either very good, or lead to a breakdown.
Well, Lovers advances, at least. And yeah, I see that Shy really didn't like hearing that. Then again, I think she was determined to embarrass Flash.
6089779
Keep in mind that shy helped to orchestrate the attempted murder of flash's closest friends and girfriend(s) and tried to kill him at least twice.
forging can be easier than forgetting.
6089722
This is pretty much what I'm saying's happening, only I'm casting it in a negative light, because it effectively means that Shining's feelings are treated like they are unimportant. In this scenario he wouldn't want this, but his feelings are treated as less important than Cadance's. He loves her so much he is allowing her to be unfaithful, to hurt him and even risk pregnancy from another man (yes, there are contraceptives, but the reason we as a species have such powerful instincts against it is that until very recently the consequence of cheating was raising another man's child involuntarily. Besides no contraceptive is 100%... but different universe might "fix" that).
What does he get from this? Nothing but a feeling like he's the "bigger man." He is sacrificing his own feelings and comfort in order for her to be able to do what she wants to, and what she wants to do is something that hurts him significantly.
That isn't a beautiful example of love, or passion, or an idealized relationship or anything. That's the expression of the man's desires being less important than the woman's.
It is, because of the ubiquitousness of the cultural insistence that a man's desires in a relationship come behind a woman's desires, the circumstance I find far and away the most likely explanation for what's going on here, and while I understand it truly is ubiquitous, so there's no reason why I should not expect to find it here, it disturbs me greatly.
This is probably the only thing Shining could potentially get from it, the lesbian and possibly incest fantasy angle, but it's still this pale comparison to what Cadance gets. Cadance gets to actually live that fantasy, and Shining gets to be home alone, maybe hearing about it later. Still the inferior one in the relationship.
Why would you have Flash intimately involved in a conflict, to the point where he bangs Shining's wife multiple times, and not give us, the readers, what's actually going on?
Hmmm, too bad this isn't an alternate universe. Maybe Flash would've slept with those two...
Also, holy hot damn is Twilight an amazing girlfriend. I literally can not BEGIN to imagine any girl I've met that would be okay with that (assuming they ever became my girlfriend).
6089837
Dear GOD you're making stupid assumptions. And REALLY stupid hyperbole. To date, Flash and Cadance have had sex once. Just once. And that was a mistake they both regret. Is it implied they MIGHT do this during Spring Break? Yes. HAS it happened again? No. At this point, you don't know WHAT'S going to happen yet, so stop using ridiculous hyperbole such as this.
Also, there are massive holes in your argument, including the light you're casting the entire thing in...I don't think you're capable of seeing the sacrifice Shining Armor is making for what it truly is.
6089693
Eh, not really. She got a bit bitchy on the last part, but that was more as revenge for Flash's comment. And if they hadn't specifically asked him about Fluttershy and AJ, she likely never would have said anything about it at all.
6089589
So, there have been some cultural anthropological studies (This book is an excellent one of them) about poly and open relationships and why some people crave them. There are actually some theories that humans by nature are polygamous, and that the monogamous relationships that are more typical and socially accepted now are a relatively modern cultural shift.
Shining seems to me to have simply realized that his wife isn't comfortable in a relationship where she can only love 1 person. While she is working on that with a therapist, and he is working to keep her satisfied, rather than her doing something they will both regret, he is allowing her to blow of steam with people she is already affectionate with, and whom she knows she is safe with and can trust.
What he asked of Flash was to make sure she doesn't get too out of hand and do something bad: I.E: getting drunk and hooking up with someone she doesn't know.
Meanwhile, Twilight is now fairly sure that Flash is well and truly hers (and Pinkie's), and thus is willing to give him a short pass to do things she wouldn't normally allow. I assume she'll probably be up to a few such things herself this week.
At least, that's my interpretation of it. As Mythril said, we're not privy to Shining's point of view,, or Twilight's, outside of what they said to Flash.
6089888
Thank FUCK somebody actually GETS IT. Well done.
6089863
Yes. Yes she is. This is also indicative of how she's grown. She's not afraid of Flash cheating on her, leaving her, hurting her, and so forth. She just doesn't want the whole group to have this awkward thing hanging over them, and thinks she's figured out the most expedient way to clear the air, and trusts Flash enough to know he won't abuse this leeway. (Even though it's pretty much license to...yeah...)
6089747
Read through them. It's pretty easy to tell who was born when.
6089941
If you are observant enough, that is. Unlike myself who misguessed Twilight's and Rainbow's signs.
6089970
Well, yeah, I guess
6089825
I know, Fluttershy deserved being told that. Still, Flash has a long list of things why he should apologize to Fluttershy. This list includes, but is not limited to:
*Grabbing her breast, hard.
*Ambushing her even thought she pleaded him not to.
*Killing her.
*Throwing her in the same shithole as Sunset Shimmer.
Just to name a few.
6089872
You're right, that IS an assumption and hyperbole on my part. I'm sorry. I meant it when i said I had felt a sad resignation to this, and now I've worked myself up. I'm going to say my peace now, and try to not say anything critical about it until more has occurred or been revealed.
Here's my basic frustration: Shining is sacrificing for their relationship. Cadance appears to progress whenever she does not have to sacrifice for it, and her sacrifice is just to act according to the social contract of the monogamous relationship she herself believes she is in anyway. I am afraid the ending will be that Shining sacrifices, and Cadance indulges herself, only within a still hurtful context for Shining, just less so.
I am afraid the sacrifice and pain will all fall on Shining's shoulders, as the strong and masculine force in their relationship.
Also, I do understand that he is making a sacrifice that, in a certain light is extremely noble. I am upset that he has to make it, and that it feels very one sided.
So much for the reverse link being...well...yeah.
>>MythrilMoth
Sorry, I'm kinda a new reader, but just want some clarification from you.
From what I'm getting; Cadence doesn't constantly go around having sex with Flash and his friends and actually controls herself to the point where it's just innocent flirting. And she hasn't had sex with Flash or any of his friends after she did it once with Flash when she got drunk.
Am I correct?
6090023 Welcome to FiMF! Before I address the content of your reply, let me explain how replying to a comment works. This is a mistake many new users make, so don't feel embarrassed:
Typing >> and a username isn't how you directly reply to a comment. You reply by clicking the >> button on the comment you're replying to (it's in the top right corner), which will put a string of numbers with >> to the left of it in your comment box.
Now that that's out of the way:
Yes, you're correct. Cadance isn't in the habit (anymore) of running around screwing whoever she wants. Shining just wants her to enjoy Spring Break to the fullest, in the safest, least backslidey way possible.
I bet Applejack is gonna confront Flash and say things like "What, you don't think I'm pretty enough for you" or "I'm I less of a woman" in a bad way or something. She might cry or be mad. I don't know what she might do. Be careful Flash.
6090056 OR, she might accept that she's just not Flash's type, which, y'know, happens.
6090007
agreed both have a lot they're guilty of.
6090023
okay, if I am right here shining's reasoning for how he's handling things with flash is: he knows cadence could fall to temptation, in flash shining sees someone he can trust cadence with to get wild without having someone who could hurt or blackmail her.
If Twilight, Flash, Pinkie, Rarity, Rainbow, Cadence had sex all together, that'd be 6 people, so it be an orgy.
Fluttershy and Flash need to work things out too. Honestly, Fluttershy isn't helping her cause at all, but Flash needs to be a little more understanding. He DID hurt her a number of ways...
"Flash! Twilight never told us you had a third nipple!"
"That's because Pinkie has somehow not found out yet and we don't want her to take advantage!"
Leaving only the toilet as the only unmarked object in the room...
They're up bright and early, even if the rest of Cadance is still in bed.
"...you want me to call up Sunset Shimmer?"
"Only if you have the phone number for the nice version of her."
"'Flashing'? Is that what you call showing me your naked body?"
"...Flash, remember our discussion about equipping Kuma outside of battle?"
"That I shouldn't do it anymore because I get unbearable?"
"Flaaaash..."
"--sh in the right direction?"
"I just want my outer self to match my inner one!"
"But your inner self is also twelve feet tall, wears bodypaint, and has enough hair to hide all of us in, so try again."
"So you'd have us all prancing naked like... like colorful ponies?"
"Ponies?"
"First prancing animal that came to mind?"
"You're weird, Twi."
As she moves in to help Sonata with her make-up, Rarity's foot slides out from under her with a loud squeak on the floorboards and she flies upside down spectacularly.
"Rarity! What happened?"
She wails, "I-- I waaaaaaaxed! I waxed the flooooors!"
"Oo! Oo! Cards Against Humanity! This one sounds fun for a hot beach night!"
"How about you, Fluttershy?"
"Oh, I'm already drunk. I just hide it well. Veeeeeery well."
"You realize you're wearing your bikini top around your hips and the bottom on your chest, right?"
"Oh. Maybe not so well."
"No matter who or how many I bed till they wilt, the ring stays on! It's a bother taking it off every time."
i.imgur.com/AaoTXE0.png?1
"Which is why I brought my 3DS, Flappy Pony, that cat collecting game, half a dozen trashy romance novels, Advanced Quantum Physics For Dummies, and my sudoku."
"In return, he gets the rest of the semester for threesomes with Celestia and Luna. And I already set the three of them up with the recently single Ms. Lobster, Maud, and Dash's mother."
"...wat."
"Safe?"
I hear a whip crack. When I look back at Twilight, she has her leather outfit on...
"Safe?"
"Twilight, are you royalty?"
"Uh, no...?"
"Then what's with all the weird sex situations in your family?"
"The minute I can figure out what the heck is happening I'm sending you to the doghouse."
...at which point Spike escaped Fluttershy's grasp and tugged down Cadance's bottom.
"You mean the ratty sweatshirt, glasses, and patched socks?"
"What can I say? The bachelorette look is in."
"I think I'm about to develop a brand new Persona and I don't think you'll like what it looks like."
"You mean seven. Eight if Fluttershy joins the party."
There is also a foot-tall old man carrying a sack full of bikinis, laughing and taunting the small army of wrathful girls in pursuit of him, but we pay them no mind.
"It made me who I am today!"
"..."
"Not a word, Flash."
"Like, I do it to sound more like, cultured and stuff, ya know? I've, like, been doing it for like a really long time and like, it's completely like so natural! You knoooow? Like, even my folks don't know what I, like, sound like anymore! You know?"
"I know, I know! Now please put it back on!"
"Wh-why? Do you AIM to misbehave?"
Cadance shrugs. "If you can't do somethin' smart... you do someone, right?"
"That's not even how that line goes!"
i.imgur.com/ep1XtXK.png
"Flash, you totally moe'd the hell out of Sonata right now."
"I did not! And what the hell is 'moe'? I did not."
"Who, Treehugger? She's only green because she hangs out with the Home Ec teach Mr. Smooze a lot. You can touch her just fine! The slime is actually great for your complexion."
"I'm still tempted to send you to a better place..."
"Twilight, put the lightning bolt down."
"I mean it. I fitted you with an explosive collar while you slept. If you forget who you belong to, it will blow your head clean off."
I feel around my neck in a panic...
"Wrong head."
Eep.
if I was flash I would have picked dare.
I dare you to indulge of of rainbows fetishes
I double dare you
6090007
You're not wrong, but do keep in mind that most of the things Flash did was in reaction to things Fluttershy did as Eris. As Flash himself pointed out, up until 'Eris' started trying to kill them, he had never done anything to Fluttershy.
She was in the middle of trying to kill him (including an attempt to smash his nuts which he barely avoided)
She killed Rarity and Pinkie prior to this. Also, at this point, he knows that people killed in Zodiac can be revived and has the means to do so.
Got nothing here, but I get the impression that not trying to unmask 'Eris' will cause things to get problematic down the road.
Context; he didn't say she's as bad as Sunset, just that Sunset is the only girl in CHS he is even more unlikely to want to have sex with (for obvious reasons). Flash never actually said why he wouldn't 'do' Fluttershy just that it is extremely unlikely to happen.
I'm not saying Flash doesn't need to apologize, he does but he's not the only person who needs to, nor is he the one with the most things to apologize for.
6090008
Counter point: While it's deemed less socially acceptable, Cadance seems to be the kind of person who has trouble limiting herself to a single lover. So by doing so most of the time now, she's sacrificing just as much for Shining as he currently is for her.
The big thing is that any open or poly relationship is build on, and requires amazing amounts of Trust. Right now Shining is trusting Cadance to only play with people who are safe and who they can both trust. She in turn is trusting those people. And Shining is adding trust on top of that by trusting Flash to help keep Cadance from doing anything reckless.
For a character who is an Emperor Arcana in nature, that's an AMAZING leap of faith, and I honestly think it shows how much Shining Armor has grown as a person over the course of the story.
6090648
I just thought of the anime Sora no Otoshimono when I read this
6090695
In a previous comment I say that Shining's feelings (his desires, really) don't matter, and Cadance's do. To be less hyperbolic, I mean that his feelings are being treated like they are less important or more inherently compromisable than Cadance's. If the final solution is to allow Cadance to occasionally, or even permanently be polyamorous (at least in this way it is now, where she is polyamorous and Shining is not), then that is a problem, to me. Shining is compromising and sating Cadance's desires (either to always be a sexual object, which is mostly indicated to be part of her motivation, and maybe that she wants to have a selection of lovers, which we have not confirmed is part of her character), and his desires and feelings because of them are being treated as the ones that must be compromised, not hers.
Edit: removed a bunch of redundant stuff, that was pretty speculative anyway.
But, don't know the future and all that, and if this is just a part of healing and trying to find a place where they both are truly happy with their relationship, then I am still displeased but cannot say it is not a step in the right direction. However, if the end goal basically involves Shining continue to have to accept that Cadance needs to have her desires met and his contrasting desires are less important than hers, then I would be... well I'd honestly be outraged.
So I can only hope the ending is one where both Shining and Cadance have their desires changed and come to a compromise for each other, rather than what seems to be happening now, where Shining's feelings and desires are compromised more than Cadance's are.
The Lemon house really? I wonder where Ika-chan was. I think her and fluttershy would have probably got along great.
Huh. The horoscope app is back up.
As for the rest... I really feel sorry for the girl working at the snack place.
6090648 Have all of the mustaches:
Or one, since I'm doing this on my iPad.
6091201
Ok, you say your issue is that only Shining Armor is treated as if his feelings and stance are less important, but that's not true from what I can see. Cadance is compromising by limiting who she is interacting with sexually to a smaller range of people, AND as far as we know, is not sexually active with anyone other than Shining except when on this break. So who is compromising more here, Shining, who has to deal with his wife having sex with other people for a single week, or Cadance, who is limiting herself to a single sexual partner 51 weeks out of the year in order to keep Shining happy?
Now, I agree that for the relationship to work, both of them need to be able to compromise. But looking at the information we have so far about the state of their relationship, it seems to me that both of them ARE compromising. And hopefully they will continue to compromise and their relationship will evolve as they grow with each other. Because that that growth is a key part of any relationship.
6092265
Cadance has expressed no such frustration with the amount of sex when Shining is available. She is, apparently, untroubled and unfrustrated and happy during those times. By contrast, whenever she is doing this other thing, Shining is in pain. A significant amount of pain, judging by his reactions.
Damn, Flash. I thought we were trying to mend fences here, not burn them.
6092463
Can I ask you a question? Are you saying that Cadence's sacrifice should be to give up her polymory nature? To me,that sounds like asking a person to stop being bisexual, asexual, etc. Don't get me wrong I can see where you're coming from, but should Shining do in this situation? Should he ask her to simply stop and only be with him? Because then Cadence would be on the frustrated and unsatisfied end. What would your solution to this be if you were writing the story?
6093001
If Cadance is truly unstoppably polyamorous, to the point where she cannot ever be satisfied, philosophically or physically, loving only one person... in a relationship with Shining Armor, who (in this hypothetical example) is stubbornly monogamous and will never himself branch out to polyamory or be able to accept Cadance sleeping around... There is only one possible satisfying ending:
Breakup.
It is between reckless and selfish to want someone who will never be satisfied with a relationship with you, because of the terms you want to set for the relationship, to be in a committed relationship with you, expecting something that you will never give them.
And in this case, compromise cannot be easily reached since monogamy and polyamory are binary. You are either in love with one person exclusively, or you are in love with more. Being "kinda in love with more some of the time" is still polyamory and frustrating (and potentially painful) to a monogamous person, and presumably being unable to love anyone but the one person you've loved is just as frustrating to a polyamorous person.
Also they appear to not be people who have decided to simply live together to raise a family, for protection, for consolidation of wealth, or any of the pragmatic reasons why marriage exists. They are husband and wife, supposedly, because they are deeply in love. But if they cannot love each other in a harmonious way, then they are destined for misery, and it is best to put an end to it before they have carved each others hearts out.
I really do hope for a better solution than that in this fic, though.
There are so many quotes in this chapter that I wanted to quote, but in the end it's too many and I'm too lazy to copy and paste a couple of sentences. As of now, all I can think of is the number of times I've slammed my head on my table, the obscene number of mental images running around in my head, and the decision whether these mental images were a good memory to keep or not.
