5355356 IF, and ONLY if, somebody guesses it EXACTLY RIGHT, will I reveal it. As it stands, only Zef and I know exactly what happened.
... Cadence is a serial cheater and completely forgiven for it. It's just who she is, so it's fine if she cheats on Shining. Over and over and over.
Fuck that.
And she doesn't even seem like she is expected to reform.
Found a typo,
It's supposed to be "his".
I kind of expecting Twilight to knock him silly, but I'm glad everything worked out in the end
5355397 I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it wasn't sex. Mainly because it'll make me feel better. As for what it actually was, I'm not sure. Using Flash as a giant teddy bear?
5355397
Well i'm going to throw myself into the guessing pit by saying that they didn't have sex (with what it imply) but she give him a BJ (sorry if i can't use this kind of word
I don't know why, but this has to be my favorite line in this entire fic.
5355408 People do stupid things. The people who love them forgive them for it. Then they do them again. And get forgiven again.
Just because it isn't right doesn't mean it isn't how people act.
5355444 Fixed, thanks!
5355494 We have a winner, folks!
5355514 You're welcome
5355514
Give me a HELL YEAH folks
Thanks for letting us know
5355514
... Yeah.
I can't consider this a satisfying ending, though... Truth be told I'm still pretty livid. Cadence broke trust even worse than the past times she did, since this was a direct betrayal of both Twilight and Shining, even if it (apparently) took more to push her to it. The results, so far, were that she made up with her Husband... and that's not acceptable. I mean, even Shining clearly was yelled at and almost lost his job over the shit he did, and it was not chronic like Cadence's infidelity.
Still... if this is truly the only time since they got married, then I can take the tiniest amount of solace in that she seems to be improving...and I that the story's only half done.

5355501 For all who already read/commented: I derped and forgot to add the Social Link Status notes for this chapter. Fixed now. For everyone who already read it: Magician and Emperor ranked up this time.
5355560 The story isn't even CLOSE to half done yet. It's not even 1/6 done.
And notice that Cadance's social link is at rank 5. Not 10. 5. That means HER drama isn't over yet...
5355572
Yeah, that's what I meant when I said "half over" is that the social link is half over. Presumably this conflict will be mostly resolved by the time it's at 10, although I don't expect the characters to stay static.
5355408 Considering the fact that no one wants to hear what I have to say about these past two chapters, I'll just agree with this. Oh well, we can gain catharsis through tomorrow's violence...
5355609
I'm going to guess Twilight's getting the best catharsis for that, though.
Take that Shadow! You tried to hurt me, and Flash, and Shining too!
*Cadence* Wait what was that last part?
Nothing!
cdn.alltheragefaces.com/img/faces/svg/happy-everything-went-better-than-expected.svg
But, that thing with Cadance... that's a little messed up. I get it, people is entitled to do their own thing, but I find weird that Cadance deals with stress by fooling around with other guys. Let's hope Shining Armor keeps true to his word and attends his wife on that regard
Huh. Well, that explains things. I'm very glad to see the air's been cleared, and that you cut the string on that Sword of Damocles early. With those wrinkles ironed out, they can focus on Zodiac, and I can try not to mix any more metaphors into this mess.
It's kind of sad that Cadance had to lie to Shining, but it's not like there was an alternative. This isn't just a matter of sticking your arm into a TV for proof.
Looking forward to more.
FUCK YOUR HOUSE, MOTH!
...and so much for Flash fighting her off. I'm kinda surprised Twilight's as accepting of things as she is. I figured she'd have been more angry at someone, be it Cadence for doing what she do or Flash for going along with it to any extent.
I also can't help but feel like this is far from the last thing to test their relationship, Twilight and Flash...
5355644 Cadance is far from perfect. In fact, she's kind of a mess. As we'll be seeing...
5355736 And absolutely nobody stuck to that either.
I'll be honest, I was a bit nervous about reading this chapter at first, but I'm quite relieved with the way things came about.
I'm also very glad that Shining Armor got that stick out of his ass relatively quickly, but given that his SL is only at rank 4, I hope nothing will happen to where he'll end up beating anyone with it...
Would I be correct in my assumption that Magician will stall for a bit, after this rank up, what with Flash being on thin ice?
5355837 It's gonna take a while for Magician to finish ranking out, yeah.
By the way, something I just noticed...your username looks more like it's saying "gam expert". You're an expert on legs?
5355881
I believe this is the first time I've heard the word "gam." I had no idea it was slang for legs...
Anyway, I came up with my username back when I was about ten years old, and I thought that "Game'X'pert" sounded cool. It's just kind of stuck with me since then.
5355925 "Gams" is old-timey slang for "legs". It's like from the 20s or 40s or somewhere in there.
I feel that everyone, in the story, and most people, in the comments, marent making it a big enough deal that what Cadence did was illegal! Unless, this persona/Equestria/Earth hybrid allows sexual stuff to happen between minors and adults.
And does anyone else find Cadence saying she is a teenager at heart really creepy?
Seriously, these last few chapters were very off putting.
Also, was what Cadence and Flash did consensual on Flash's part? Because if not then the characters are really under reacting, and if it was then I'm more than a little pissed at Flash.
Hopefully, the future chapters will tackle the aftermath of this whole scandal.
5356183 You're assuming AMERICAN LAWS apply to the EQUESTRIA GIRLS universe. Guess what?
That's purely an assumption on your part.
5356216 It's still creepy to me.
You didn't answer whether Flash had consented or not.
5356268 He's a teenage boy. He's straight. That's the type of question you shouldn't even have to ask.
5356183 I'm sorry if my earlier replies to you seem...combative. That's partly because having other people flail their personal moral beliefs at me is one of my pet peeves, and partly because...well...
You're kind of making a big deal about something that was never explicitly stated within the story to have happened (for a VARIETY of reasons), that I wasn't actually even going to confirm in the comments, and...well...
A 26-year-old woman, married or not, blowing a teenage boy while a little drunk, which doesn't even happen "on screen" and is left to the reader's imagination, may shock/disturb/offend you, but really...you're reading a story with rampant sexual overtones flying all over the place...on a site where people tend to write about small talking horses having sex as if that's normal.
I don't mean to offend you or belittle your personal values, beliefs, morals, etc...but please get a little perspective.
5355397 A hot make-out session? Sloppy kisses everywhere? Fetishy stuff? Bow-chicka-bow-wow?
Well, that could have gone worse.
While they all took it in a calm way, issues like this are like slow acting poison, screwing up everything they touch.
My parents were like that since they started dating. Its been 17 years since they divorced and there is still so much bad blood between them that I still have panic attacks when they are in the same room.
Right now, they are all giving excuses and letting it roll, but that wont work forever, they have to really change. And given that this story is based on Persona, that change is a given
5355514
Serious question: does a bj count as a first taim?. Upvote for yes, Dislike for no.
5356389 Why it's shocking is because of how the characters react. It's jarring when something that would normally, in a story that has a modern-day semi-realistic like, be a crime is brushed off by every character. Everyone just seems way too chill for what happened.
I am not going to stop reading, but that came without warning.
in regards to what you said about Equestria having different laws, we never hear about either.
I don't mean to say that the story is horrible or anything, but the events that unfolded were very jarring and came out of left field.
5356737
Because this isn't some retarded TV melodrama or morality play. This is people who are just used to this kind of thing not being surprised by it.
Because nothing ever happens without build-up and anticipation, ever. That's why we always have 24 hours to prepare for every car that runs a red light, broadsides a family sedan, and kills two children. That's why fires send e-mail before the break out in apartment complexes. That's why a convenience store robber sends a letter through his attorney by certified mail with the exact date and time he intends to rob a clerk at gunpoint and take his life over $18 in change.
5356284 I know several heterosexual teenaged males who would turn down the chance to get a BJ from someone whose drunk, simply because ya don't fucking get sex from someone when they're drunk. Try again, Moth.

Just to clear the air on the discussion presently happening here:
In life, real life, people make mistakes and do the wrong thing. We falter, we lie, we cheat, we do harm --from the smallest to the most damaging. We fail to consider the consequences, we think only of the immediate future, we let baser needs get the better of us. Our intelligence, our consideration towards others' needs, and our moral fiber allow us to avoid some of these, but not all, and not to the same degree as other people. In the end, we have learn to live with the little stuff, and we cope with the bigger stuff.
The degree to which we tolerate or cope these faults in ourselves or others is entirely up to us. Some people can forgive murder, others carry petty grudges for their entire lives.
Fiction, to some level, always tries to reflect upon real life. If it doesn't, it rings false, or becomes a caricature. That's why most morality plays tend to be ridiculed, because they enforce idealized versions of humanity that don't apply to the audience. For a moral to work, it HAS to allow people to do the wrong thing first, and then have them grow and learn from it.
It's all well and good to disagree with a character's choices, or even with the consequences the characters face over them. Conflict between the narrative and its audience is what enriches the experience, because it helps us learn about ourselves. However, just because the narrative allows the characters to be jerks doesn't mean that it condones them being jerks, nor that we should. And whether a jerk gets their comeuppance in the end or not, what matters is whether the arc is developed well, realistically and true to the characters.
Personally? I think both Cadance and Flash are equally guilty, and that they deserved more than the slap in the wrist they both got. I sympathize with the path that led them to that point, but not with what they did nor the circumstances in which they did it. But the characters' morality is neither my own, nor the story's, nor the author's. If they "get away with it", well, many other undeserving people do, IRL, and never try to make amends. If it comes crashing down upon them later, well, that's still to be seen, and it can have greater consequences than we had anticipated. I wish it hadn't happened, because of all the damage it did to everyone involved, but it did, and all that's left to me as a reader is to see what develops from it, for good or bad.
And, so far, it has revealed a lot to me about the personalities of these four people --about how and why they did what they did, and what they'll do about it afterwards. And that's a good thing, because it's taken the narrative down a path I hadn't anticipated, and it has cast previous events under a completely different light.
(Personally, I was all but waiting for something like this to happen ever since the S.Link started revealing Cadance and SA's issues; the choice of Aphrodite is certainly more than just a tenuous allusion to "goddess of love", now, innit?)
So, instead of being angry or frustrated at the narrative, I'm frustrated and despairing for the characters:
I now know that Cadance, despite being a lovely person otherwise, "can't help" betraying a very intimate bond when she feels the need to vent at Shining Armor. She's weaponizing an aspect of her personality, one of her defining traits, against Shining Armor and herself. That's NOT a healthy place to be.
I now know that both Shining Armor and Twilight are so used to this side of Cadance, that they're basically resigned to it happening time and time again. That's terribly sad! For both of them to accept this situation so coldly, methodically, Cadance must have built an astonishing amount of good will with them in the past, or must be downright saintly and devoted to them in every other aspect. But then again, this IS the first time Cadance involves someone close to Twilight --if it were anyone else, I would already be waiting for the other shoe to drop, but since Twilight is already a neurotic personality, this is definitely not the end of it.
As for Flash, well, he IS guilty, even if what he's guilty of is doing what many horny 16yo guys would have also done. Many others in his position would have rejected the advances of a drunk woman, yes, but all that says is that their fortitude is greater than Flash's, and that Flash lacked the will or backbone to stop himself when a friend was at her lowest.
What everyone learns from this, how they grow as people, and how they rebuild what has been broken, is what character development is all about. Stuff like this is usually transparent in most fiction, it's just that the new Personas do it explicitly with the S.Link concept. Instead of having the character arcs interweave with the narrative, they basically become mini-dramas which highlight a person's progress in solving their life's difficulties. To put it in perspective, there's a point in Persona 4 where, after several rank-ups of getting through to Dojima and Nanako, things heat up to the point she rejects her own father and runs away from home. The entire point, from there on, is to fix things, and come out the better person for it.
And remember, the S.Links involved here are far from over.
To sum up, it's fine to disagree with the characters' actions and reactions. What isn't fine is to cast aspersions against the narrative itself for allowing such actions.
Apparently Twilight's more intuitive than everyone gives her credit for. *sigh* I see that Cadance still hasn't come completely clean, but then again, who would believe that whole Zodiac thing if you weren't living it? (And what's more, even if Shining believed it, what could he possibly do about it?)
5359191 Probably nothing, since it's likely he can't even enter it. From what we've seen, Zodiac is more "Tartarus" than "Midnight Channel" --either the Shadows pull you into it against your will, or you can enter it freely because you've Awakened to your Persona (which requires the former to happen first). And unless Cadance et al try to bring non-Awakened people along for their training sessions (with all the life-threatening risks this implies), we can safely assume there's no other way to enter Zodiac, and there's nothing anyone else can do.
5358975 Very well said.
5359261
Speaking of that: What happens to the victims of Zodiac in the real world? The just fall dead in the place they were standing?
5359485 That's actually something I hadn't really fleshed out, because I considered it to be an extraneous backstory detail that I'd deal with if the time ever came. We'll get back to you on that one...
5359630
Really? I mean, when somebody dies in the Midnight Chanell (Persona 4), dissapearing in the real world beforehand when the mist falls in, their corpses'd just appear hanging upside down from an antaenna when the mist lifts up. And that's something they figured pretty early.
5359675 Yes, but the only actual deaths so far happened months before the story started, so I haven't really wasted much time on that particular detail here.
I don't know if its been asked, but if and when a party member's social link maxes, will their persona evolve?
Hrm. Sorry, this chapter just is a bridge too far for me. I was already not thrilled with the direction you were going last chapter, and this is the opposite of resolving it.
It's not a matter of disliking what happened. It's that the way you brush it off here seems so against the characters that you've established, and is a real disservice to any kind of plot you're building.
I'm feeling actual, physical pain while reading this.
Shining Armor and Cadance are toxic.
5580806 Yeahhhh, the toxic is strong in this universe.
....WHOAWHOAWHOA!
That's just Rank 4?
Then what's the conflict gonna be for the rest of the Link?
5355397 Very, very, VERY much so a dead thread, but...
You remember the Devil Arcana in Persona 4 where really early on the screen goes black and Uehara starts naming a bunch of different organs?
Cadance was totally just showing him an anatomical graph and forcing him to listen to descriptions of minor organs.
Can I get a yes or no, at the very least?
