Pen Mightier

I proved my namesake in a duel of honour. The crayon never stood a chance.

Everypony must live with their choices. In Twilight's case, she must live with it forever, literally. Becoming Princess of the Afterlife, of Tartarus, however, was just half for atonement. She had another agenda. She wished to seek out the departed souls of her friends, to beg their forgiveness, just one last time. 10 years have passed and her search is still fruitless.

Now on the 10th anniversary of her friends' passing the true nature of their sacrifice is revealed. She is given the chance to make the choice once again. This time, will she choose Equestria or her dear friends?

Heh, I've read Rebirth and it is indeed a good tale:

That said, your take on how things could've happened if Twilight fought on instead instead of giving in to Tirek's hostage demands is just as good. You strike a fine balance between 'feels' tugging sorrow from Twilight's self induced repentance to mood lightening comedy (bureaucratic Hell is best-WORST Hell) that allows the reader to get invested in the story.

Can't wait to see where you go with this story (as well as new chapters/rewrites of your other stories).

"Screw Celestia, she didn't tell us we were using soul-sucking gems. Let her cake-eating ass defend Equestria for once." :twilightangry2:

Interesting story so far! Me gusta. :pinkiehappy:

Yeah, it worked up until that last little revelation. Then hell no. No. Just... no.

Far better for them to have immediately reincarnated somewhat far away, and have the fic be about Twilight atruggling to break her own prison than this....

I really don't have words for how bad that final idea is.

Very interesting concept, and take on what would've happened if Twilight had said No to Tirek. Wonder what the story is behind Willow, and how Twilight's friends will feel about her begging for forgiveness, since I doubt they'll feel there's anything to forgive.

Once again, you have truly proven that compared to the sword, the Pen is Mightier.

i can't wait to see celestia have to get off her ass and defend equestria for once! fuck the harmony tree, save friendship!

4543432 This actually brings up a small point I have to settle with a few friends: why do you not see Luna or Celestia during any major battle? Did they take a nap, or go on vacation?

This time, will she choose Equestria or her dear friends?

Dayum.

4543489 i'm biased on that i really hate celestia (in general), so i've always thought that her and her sister 'keep the peace' in canterlot, while twilight and her friends do all the real work.

4543796 well yeah, and I guess all these fanfics putting Celestia in a darker light than luna (unintentional pun) may have worn on my mind, but then again I follow the thought of the crowd.

So, the only way to escape the soul trap is to ascend into an immortal alicorn, right?
That, unless a very, very pissed ex-faithful ex-student decides you have lived long enough :twilightangry2:

Pretty sure her friends won't appreciate her dooming the whole entire world just for them but eeeh, alright.

Kinda wonder though, where is her first friend, Spike? Just a bit curious... welp can't wait for the next chapter!

So... sorry but what about Spike and Discord? Seriously, I can understand her forgetting about (and probably hating) Discord, but she never once mentioned Spike.

You have my attention.

:rainbowderp: Whoa... This is gonna be interesting!

*Marks read later*

...You have my attention... I will be back...

Why do I see twilight clad with Obsidian armor some what like Celestias usual look?a

ive seen this picture a bunch of times and everytime i see it all thy comes to mind is The Painted World from drk souls

I'm not big on the final twist, but otherwise this is a DAMN good story.

"The Rise of Tartarus" sounds like Twilight is going to pull a Rassilon

Well this is certainly going somewhere. Murphy's Law dictates that I'll love this.

This... this is a story I am very much looking forward to reading more of. Liked and fave'd.

You've just... the feels... the Twilight ruling Tartarus. Awesome.

See? You've broken my words with just a prologue!

Good start, but what of the chest from the tree, or the keys to open said chest? Do they just cease to exist in this universe? And what of Discord and Spike (even though Spike technically wasn't in a bubble of Tirek's making)? Issues you may want to cover in the next chapter (which I am looking forward to :scootangel:)

"Murderers form a line over there, please! Looters and thieves, please use that queue over there! Liars and lawyers, if you could join the special express queue on the far end!"

Let me guess... This is inspired by Rowan Atkinson himself? :pinkiegasp::pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

the quote is quite similar to his at 1:02

Wait, What about Spike and Discord's souls? Why would either or both of them be absorbed?

4734943 I doubt it. They aren't elements. Plus, Discord is a spirit. He probably survived. Weakened, but alive. And as for Spike, well, we all know that dragons are magic-resistant. And that they only get bigger and scarier and stronger as they age. But Spike was a child. A baby. And Twilight had the "all-powerful" alicorn magic. He was doomed from the start. Though it opens the question. Why haven't we seen him yet?

4902551 maybe discord took him with him to wherever spirits of chaos go to recover?

4908201 maybe. Sounds possible. After all, Discord's magic is clearly different from Equestrian magic. Note how their cutie marks vanished when their magic was removed. I believe it is because their magic comes from a very vulnerable source: The Tree of Harmony. Have you ever heard of the concept of Magical Mantles? It's basically a government position, but it grants magical power instead of politic power. Cutie marks are stigmas of these mantles, they appear upon those who bear them. When Tirek siphons off a being's magical energy, he probably takes their mantles, or at least Equestrian mantles. In most media, a mantle is irremovable. But, Equestrian mantles seem, for lack of a better word, weaker. They don't have some particular purpose, you don't earn them, or win them, or fight for them. Ponies are just born with them. It's that simple. And the mantles allow them to harness magic from the Tree of Harmony. But Discord, he doesn't have a mark, so he probably doesn't have a mantle. Just power of his own, and the energy. So Tirek merely took magical energy. He'd be exhausted, but his magic would recover. Remember how Twilight was tired after defeating the Ursa Minor? But she recovered, same as Discord probably would. So the only remaining questions there are, how did Discord have the energy to save Spike, and where are they now?

is this ever going to update?

4540915 "Rebirth"? Where can I read that?

I don't know what made me think of it, but I spent the whole chapter re-imagining the Tirek fight, except this time 60's Spiderman is there and all like "Yoink! I'll just take these nice ponies off your hands, you big ugly centaur! Hey, is your mane really cotton candy? 'Cause it looks like cotton candy."

One does not simply place a story like this AND NOT UPDATE IT FOR A YEAR!

Damn. This is a really good idea too bad it will never be updated. If you did it right you might only need two chapters to complete the entire stroy. Seems like a bit of a waste to air and than never update. At least cancel it or place it on hiatus.

Is this gonna be continued ?

Why did you decide to stop writing this story?

Eeeeeeecccccchhhhhooooo

Any plans on furthering this? I think this is the 4th or 5th time ive reread this and keep hoping for another chapter. Have a happy Twily.
