It was pretty good little bait-and-switch and I understand Spike's reasoning behind his little plan but I have to admit that it felt harsh. Maybe I'm too much of a softy for Rares but to go through all of that effort and expense just to not do what he already did...well, that to me is very difficult to justify. True, its not a happy ending but it does revolve around Spike and Rarity feelings and their relationship so it is their shipping fic... I would say that the group simply lacks a place for Sparity stories with non-happy ending

Eh. I was honestly expecting worse when reading the comments. I'm pretty sure that every one of the Mane 5 would verbally rip Spike to pieces for doing that.
And that is where the story fails for me. It fails at the most important part, characterization. Spike doesn't feel like Spike. He doesn't feel like someone who knows the value of friendship like he does in the show itself. It isn't the idea of doing a Spike/Rarity breakup that bothered me about this, it was that it didn't feel like Spike at all.
I dislike this for the same reason I don't really like 'The Glass Blower.' It is a character named Spike, that looks like Spike, but acts nothing like Spike. I feel a story with a similar message would have easily been doable without making Spike so horribly OOC.

Reminds me of another fic, where in the end, Spike is really just trying to propose to another girl and just wants to get the whole thing with Rarity off his back. But anyway, good show. I really like the ending, it made me laugh
Not gunna lie, I'm a big fan of Sparity....but this...very masterfully done! I mean, it also makes sense, and in a way, I respect your Spike more than most! It takes sheer balls, the kind that a Titan would need, to pull this off. Moreover, it makes the point all too clear. "I have tonight, given you the world. I would have given you all this and more for years. But now, now that you know the taste of what you could have had, it's too late. The time has passed, and now you shall never taste this again." It's poetic, tragic as it is accurate. In short, very well done!
I can't say I approve of the ending. It just feels beyond cruel here... To do all that just to laugh at her and walk away. I honestly feel so sorry for Rarity here.
However, I do have to say good job. The fic was brilliantly written, even if I didn't like it.
This was a pleasant little treat for a person who's trying out some reading into the Romance tag. Nice job!
This reeks of someone dreaming of a way to get back at the girl that never noticed them, which goes a step beyond the typical 'struggling to break free of the friendzone' ick that crops up in the Sparity ship. Needlessly cruel on Spike's part. Relationships -- not even romantic ones, just regular interpersonal ones between non-sociopaths -- don't work this way. Thumbs down.

4521317 I dunno, in a situation like that I wouldn't be surprised if a person killed themselves, to finally after all those years reciprocate the feelings of someone you thought had just a crush on you just to have the person pull the rug out from beneath your feet spit in your face and mock you.
It's just too easy to see a situation like that end tragically, as much as I like Spike this story isn't just about him, he hurt a person very badly, ON PURPOSE, and he just laughs, he doesn't care, I think him laughing even if it was because of his freedom, kinda makes him feel like a douche bag.
