That said, the comics and the show seem to have slightly different canons. It doesn't really make much sense that comic Twilight meticulously calculated that Cadance and Shining were soulmates, yet show Twilight was completely in the dark as to who Shining's fiancee was at the start of A Canterlot Wedding. So, I guess this story is compatible with show canon, but not comic canon.
And on the subject of the story, that was really good! I loved the descriptiveness, and after having a few vague suspicions about the identity of the fan, the ending was a nice little pay-off. Great work!

For what it's worth, I tried to depict Shining Scratch (yay alliteration!) as fully bigendered - neither half being 'false', just two different presentations of the same personality.
I'm not certain I pulled it off. Then again, you don't get any better as a writer if you only do things you already know how to do.

What I meant was that it could be worked to something approaching full DID/MPD and that between Shiny and Scratch, Scratch is the more masculine, and while Shiny isn't exactly girly, it probably wouldn't be hard to twist him that way.

That... Was weird. Made me remember the famous "It's a TRAP!", but still...
Pros:
-an interesting approach at Vinyl's personality.
-picturesque and vivid environment; the way you describe the music almost makes the reader hear it.
-dat wuz hawt.
Cons:
-well... I may sound like a prude, but - the genderbending and transvestism are exactly not my cup of tea. This rustles my jimmies.
-typos. Typos everywhere, but that's just a nitpicky me.
-the structure of the whole story is kind of... Ragged. Sometimes you can just get lost in time, not knowing where were you and what comes next, so you'd have to reread and try to comprehend again.
All in all, this is a jolly good one-time read. Aside from all the drawbacks I've mentioned, this is a thing I could've enjoyed.

It was pretty interesting. Obviously, there are plot holes (of both varieties, heh) but they don't kill the story.
The one thing I found distracting was the narration consistently calling Shining/Vinyl female, regardless of who he is. Especially since it goes through a couple bits talking about the double life, it might have been good to change it up in a few places, but that's just me picking nits.
XB I do like the implications of Cadence being the stallion at the next show :p
And once again, Cadence gets painted as being the princess of love and being very 'open minded' about it's interpretations. I love when people write her that way :p

3606925 Technically wouldn't it be cross-dressing since transgender's actually the change of a gender whilst Shining was still male, disguised as a female thus making it cross-dressing.... I think.
Also, Mr. Author mans, it was VERY predictable that it would be Cadence from the start. How would Shining have fooled everyone into thinking he's a mare since he, like all the males, have a square broad snout? It's a nice concept but doesn't make much sense. But I could totally see how it could work hypothetically, being similar in colors, but again, the snout.
