Princess Luna's apprentice is suffering from nightly terrors. So, to put the young mare's mind at ease, Luna tells her a tale about Saros, a pony she once knew and loved. Saros was a living miracle, a gift bequeathed from the very fabric of night who taught Luna the power of dreaming. But Saros was much more than that; she was Luna's first and only friend.

Holy shit, I'm reading Eljunbyro and you post this; literally as I finish it.

Well, this looks cool. I love me some Luna.

That was an interesting thing to read in the middle of the day. Nothing mind-blowing, but I liked the solid mythology air you weaved for this, Thoroughly decent, I should think.

So it's in the same world as Background Pony, then?

"You will let me do what needs to be done! You will let me become what your subjects need... what everypony needs!"

She's the mare we deserve, not the one we need.

Hey Skirts, I think you might have accidentalied a line.

Returning to the physical realm, I joined Luna in observing the ponies asleep at our palace. We noticed that many of them stirred in mid-slumber, as if possessed.

This is Luna telling the story, right? How did she join herself?

Just thought I'd point that out, I'll add anything else I find to this comment.

Edit: I didn't see anything else that looked out of place. This was a really good read, how do you always manage to make things so sweetly tragic?

Holy crap.

This was one the best bat pony origin story I've ever read...

Nicely done, skirts, nicely done indeed...

I love me a good bat pony yarn. Shame there aren't many good ones (unless I've overlooked some). As far as fanfiction goes, I've always liked your version of bat ponies (Background Pony, Saros, etc.), and this one lives up to the bar you've set. Some really nice world-building here. Though, I have to say, I kept expecting there to be some connection between Saros and Nightmare Moon, but nothing came of it.

Nothing too groundbreaking, but an enjoyable, atmospheric read, nonetheless.

P.S. - Is this the contest fic you mentioned? A bat pony contest, perhaps? If so, I'll have to sniff out the others.

This was nice
Also, good use of the narrative.

More background to the Saros mythos? Yes please :pinkiehappy:

Ugh. Another one so soon? I hate you, you prolific bastard.

I love you.

I love some me some good lore/worldbuilding. Especially Sarosian-related worldbuilding.

I love the story :D it's epic
The storyline, the origins of Sarosian's, Wow! :3.

"Tia, instead of being comatose, our subjects need to have vivid hallucinations 8 hours a day"
"...."
"My new friend only I can see told me about it"
"Luna what are you tulpamancing?"

I started reading this story knowing I was in for another SSAE epic. Finished reading it, and here I am, crying like a little bitch.
Th-thanks Skirts.

Ahh, here comes skirts to class up this contest. :D Well done, really fascinating concept. Also a fantastic song to end with!

I don't know why but I was really hesitant to read this. I guess the title really deterred me, because Luna doesn't interest me. This was good, though.

pretty good. i'm not a huge fan of the idea/concept, but the execution is good.

O-oh. That was beautiful. I actually shed a tear. It's been a while since that happened.

Oh man, how am I supposed to imitate even a fraction of your night? This lowly skirts alt despairs.

Some part of me wonders if what Saros was was also what possessed Luna so long ago as NMM.

Out of all the takes on Celestia and Luna, yours is my favorite. I loved this story, though there are some bits that don't do well with me. For example: isn't Luna searching her dreams for "eons" a bit much? Or how does becoming dreams make Saros "the tapestry underneath life"?

Due to princess Aria's nature, you could say this story takes place in the same world as BGP :twilightsheepish:

Fuck you man now I'm crying in the burger king parking lot

Also I love you
