[Inspired by Enya - I Want Tomorrow, and written for a challenge posted by Emerald Flight in The Writer's Group.]

This is the story of the stallion who loved Luna while she became Nightmare Moon, and was loved back by her throughout it all.

In the end, though, he chose to see the dawn again. He wanted a tomorrow.

I NEED SOME PREREADERS.

Four hundred years after Princess Luna's return from the moon, the Equestrian Space Program put a pony in space for the first time.
Fast forward two hundred more years, and there is an established moon colony and asteroid-mining is a quickly growing field. The first deep-space exploration vessel has just been launched, and ponykind holds its breath as the Spellship Arcanum boldly goes where nopony has gone before!

As a note: if some of the spelling looks strange, it's because we spell some words differently up here in Canada. Grey instead of gray, defence instead of defense, etc.

Garble's behavior towards Spike and his pony friends - despite being mimicked by his cronies - was unacceptable by the standards of the Elder dragons, and he was taken sorely to task for it. When the Elders decided an apology had to be delivered, Garble's twin sister, Garbledina, volunteered to deliver the apology. She claimed it was a sense of responsibility for her twin's behavior, but in truth she was curious about the 'runt' who so thoroughly got under his skin.

When she actually meets him, however, that curiosity quickly grows to something more. This comes as a shock to Spike and his friends...especially to a certain unicorn mare.

In the distant future, a mind awakes to find itself without a body.

It remembers who it was.

Who she was.

Her name, once, was Luna.

I dream of her again. Her legs are too long.

She doesn't look at me. Filthy water runs from her mane and tail into nothingness. Her back faces me and she stands far away but not far enough to hide the choking stench of rot. Then she speaks to me.

“You are lost, little one,” she says in inharmonic voices empty of life or love. “Please let me help you.”

I do not want her help but I don’t speak. I feel her breath on the back of my neck. I am filled with dread. She still doesn’t face me. Why doesn’t she face me?

When I wake, my bones ache and the smell of her salty decay is stagnant in the cold night air.

Long ago, Starswirl's mirror was damaged, and for some reason that nopony knows the destination was changed. Sunset Shimmer learns about this world, a wild and untamed land, and in a display of angry-teenage decision making thinks spending 20 moons on that world is a good way to get Celestia's respect.

Meanwhile, the year is 1889, Ether-Flyers traverse the inner solar system, and the tidally-locked world of Mercury is still a nearly unmapped mystery for humanity. The British Empire, nearing the height of its power, claims the world, but only maintains a small outpost in the small sliver of land between the eternal day of the hot side and the eternal night of the dark side known as the Twilight Zone.

------

A crossover with Space 1889, a sort of steampunk sci-fi RPG setting that I am a fan of.

NOTE: This fic will get into the politics of the late 1800's, and the reality of the time was that most people in positions of power were pretty terrible by our standards and Equestrias, but this will not be a human-bashing fic, just because the governments of Earth are full of terrible people does not mean humanity is terrible.

Also available on Spacebattles, where I am much more active and respond to comments much quicker.

REWRITTEN IN 2018! WOO!
Equestria Daily
Here's the music a friend made for the book based on how he felt when reading it.
Da semi-sequel be here.

Ignore the first story with his name. It is just what passed through his mind one day. This is his true appearance.

The Psychopath is a stallion with an unknown relation to the princesses, and yet he is held within the lowest levels of the Canterlot castle dungeons. He is completely chained up in his dark and dry cell, only ever thinking about his next prank and humming tunes that come from nowhere. His existence has been kept secret for centuries, and only the council and a few select guards know of him. Now, another mare will know of his existence. Twilight Sparkle will free him inadvertently, causing the psychotic pony with a strange appearance to float about Equestria, causing mayhem and destruction in the form of "pranks". How will the student deal with somepony who is apparently not trying to cause harm but does so anyway?

The image was made by Stalin the Stallion . Thank him for giving about thirty minutes of his life to draw that. (How did he even do that in half an hour?)
