A year after the Battle of the Bands, high school graduation is nearing and the girls are ready to face the world, though Sunset Shimmer worries that they might drift apart. But when Twilight's human self arrives and ends up getting infected with dark magic, they must call upon Princess Twilight once more to engage in a battle that will decide the fate of their worlds.

This story is a sequel to A Guard and a Princess

Evil creatures raising from the underworld, a national sports event, an entire other dimension—what will cause the newly-married Twilight Sparkle and Flash Sentry to be apart next? Well, now that they are reunited after Princess Twilight received her new castle and role, hopefully nothing.

This story is the sequel to A Guard and a Princess. It is written in third-person, and occasionally includes the footnote style of The Celestia Code, a story that I would highly recommend if you like Twilight Sparkle. It also takes place after season 4 and Rainbow Rocks, with a little bit of a timeline mix up that you all will surely ignore because you are awesome people. It does contain minor Rainbow Rocks spoilers.

Twilight Sparkle is stressed with her new role as a princess and wishes she could go back to being a regular old unicorn.

Dawn Cracker, a unicorn living with her indebted father, wishes she had the life of a princess.

When the two meet, they discover they look a great deal alike and (of course) decide to switch places. What chaos will become of this?

Authors note: The story will be more of the interaction between Shining Armour and Flash Sentry and the bromance that doesn't blossom. I wrote this story solely because I really liked the idea of military ponies but didn't want to make an OC.

Flash sentry was a Pegasus royal guard with a lot going for him. He was working his way up the ranks as a prominent soldier, and was the rising star amongst his peers. After a mistake in battle causes Flash to question his abilities as a soldier, Captain Shining Armour reassigns him to castle guard duty in Canterlot.
During the captain’s royal wedding, Flash catches a glimpse of a purple unicorn mare. Months later, fate steps in and he meets her properly for the first time. When they start dating, it seems he had finally made a right decision… until Flash finds out who her older brother is.

In all honesty, Twilight Sparkle never had much plans for romance. Sure, she occasionally dreamed about finding that one special somepony, but she never had the chance nor the motivation to actively seek him. I mean, all good things come to those who wait, right?

However, when ‘that one special somepony’ is forcibly shoved right in Twilight’s face, it becomes a whole different ball game.

Starburst, the daughter of Princess Twilight Sparkle and Prince Flash Sentry, has about all she could ask from life: loving parents, her Little Brother Best Friend Forever, and despite her seriousness and disciplined mentality, she has group of friends close as family. She also has an ambitious goal in life: she wants to be the first mare ever to become the Captain of the Royal Guard, which she's been preparing herself for since she was a little filly.

So... what would happen if she were to meet a pony that is an exact opposite of her?

Although Flash Sentry is overjoyed to be engaged to Princess Twilight Sparkle, Celestia withholds her blessing until she can interview the couple. At the interview, Flash is even more surprised than Celestia to find that something is indeed terribly wrong. This revelation leaves him questioning whether he ever really knew either princess.

The neighboring country of Griffonicus has declared war on Equestria. Now ponies are being drafted into the military, including Shining Armor and Flash Sentry. While on the battlefield, they witness unspeakable horrors and the pain and stress of a bloody war.

On the home front, Princess Twilight has to help Princess Celestia and Princess Luna watch over Equestria and keep the nation from splitting apart while comforting and strengthening Princess Cadence and dealing with the own pain she has as she fears the fate of the two stallions she cares for the most.

Pinkie Pie has been feeling a bit odd lately. Butterflies in her stomach, a tingling in her hooves, a loss for words... And only when HE is around. This "he" is Cheese Sandwhich, and she can't stop thinking about him!

But why?

Will they get their happy ending?
