Sunset Shimmer and Princess Celestia start having a little conversation as they watch the sunset go by.

This was just a little story I made for Sunset Shimmer Day as tribute to my favorite bacon-haired girl.

Following the events of the "Friendship Games," Sunset comes to a hard decision to return to Equestria and face her former mentor after so many years.

Luna rushes into Celestia's room, seeing that she had a nightmare about Daybreaker and comes to comfort her once again after all the times she once did.

Luna wasn't the only princess with insecurities, but Celestia as well. Celestia has an evil side called Daybreaker who is powerful.

Celestia is more powerful than we think she is.

Daybreaker unleashes her full power while Celestia holds back. That's what she's been so insecure about.

Can Twilight help make her feel better?

Book Knight learned about the great comic book hero known as Batman and decided to follow in his footsteps to become the hero that fights in the shadows, handling the underground criminals that the royal guard and the princesses can't handle on their own. He is smart and skilled at hoof to hoof combat. He also uses throwing stars and shadow magic to gain the edge on his enemies. He is the Shadow Knight, the dark hero of Equestria.

Twilight doesn't see him as a hero. She sees him as a nutcase who she regrets handing the comic to in the first place. He's extreme and needs to find a friendlier way to handle stuff like this. So she does the one thing she can think of to sort this out. She brings Book and complains to Celestia and Luna about it.

The argument is pure and simple. Twilight wants a more rational solution to handling high-level crimes without a lot of fighting. Book claims that she is a crybaby who doesn't understand criminals or how to handle them.

After that Twilight only has one response. Picking a fight with him.

Twilight Sparkle has mastered many skills: friendship, magic, diplomacy, organization, and so on. However, Princess Luna has realized that Twilight has yet to master one final skill before she can truly ascend to the throne.

And so, Luna takes it upon herself to teach Twilight THE TRADITIONAL ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE.

After learning that the Mane 6 and Luna are away on a friendship mission, Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy Glow want to attack Canterlot while only Celestia remains. Grogar however is adamant against it so they do the only thing they know how to... disobey his orders and attack anyway. Upon doing so though, they learn exactly why he said no and wish they had listened.

After the Fall Formal, Sunset Shimmer's reign over the school had come to a shattering end.

Everyone at school no longer feared the cruel girl, and some chose to torment her at every opportunity.

Even the Rainbooms, despite the orders given to them by the Princess of Friendship, were reluctant to befriend the former bully.

While delivering her goods one early morning, Applejack encounters Sunset doing her community service. Despite her own anger toward the former Queen Bee, Applejack can't help but notice the complete shift in Sunset's demeanor: her pride and arrogance have been replaced by sorrow and shame.

Driven by her own curiosity, paranoia, her promise to the Princess of Friendship, and a small desire to extend an olive branch, Applejack approaches Sunset during her community service, asking her why she's acting so broken up. Sunset tells her that she went through the most painful thing imaginable: being forced to see oneself with objective clarity.

Will Applejack befriend Sunset, or will her anger toward Sunset overwhelm her compassion?

This fanfic is my own take about how the Elements of Harmony work, and why they managed to change Sunset so quickly. This is partly inspired by Fallowsthorn's Time.

This is the beginning of a series I call Sunset's Steps. I wanted to explore Sunset's redemption a bit, and use the series to see how she got to where she was by Rainbow Rocks.

It had been a perfectly ordinary day for Twilight. She'd gone about her business, then she'd come back to her library, she'd said Spike goodnight and she'd curled up in her bed, ready to sleep the night away. She didn't think there would be any reason for her to wake up. She would have never been able to guess the reason.
