Some ponies want fame. Some ponies want money. Some ponies want not to be alone. It is a primal urge allowing them to withstand the distant fear of death. Wanting to be remembered, to leave something behind cannot be held against anypony.

However, there are those who just want a piece of cardboard to lie on so that the ground isn't so cold, a place shielded from wind and rain, and some leftovers to munch on from time to time. They prefer to not think of themselves as ponies so that not having any of the normal things doesn't hurt so much.

They are happy. No, they look happy.

Trying to patrol the dreams of every pony in Equestria can be stressful. To ease her burden, Luna retools the Tantabus to turn nightmares into good dreams instead of vice versa. Aware of her mistakes from last time, she tests it out thoroughly, making sure there are no unexpected behaviors. And as far as she can tell, there are none.

Except that it's started calling her "Mom".

Faced with the prospect of possibly creating life, Luna seeks out Twilight's advice and assistance. With a little luck, they can get this all sorted out before the sun rises.

Things happen. Nothing happens in between these things. If they did, they'd simply be things with more nothing between 'em. So how do you measure the nothing? Two ponies, equally flawed, intend to find out together... no matter how far it takes them.

This is the story that won first place in /fic/'s eighteenth write-off competition. The original story--here, split into three chapters--was written and edited over a period of just seventy two hours. I intend to add additional chapters whenever the fit comes upon me. Main Course is a successful chef and restaurant owner. Or he was, anyway, until a fire tore up his life's work and left him adrift. When he visits his sister in the rural backwater town of Ponyville, he discovers an abandoned building that's perfect for a quick fix-up so he can flip it for a profit. But the building comes with an unforeseen tenant, and when he lets her stick around he discovers that maybe, just maybe, there's something out there more important than wealth and fame.

If all you've ever seen of me is what I was, then you don't know me. The mare I've become isn't the filly I was born as, and for all of it, I regret nothing of my new life. This is my story.
