Equestria has been brought to its knees. Monsters of all kinds flood every city, the world itself seems to be on the verge of complete collapse, and every pony is trapped by the physical manifestation of their own deepest, most inner terrors and nightmares.

But it's Hearth's Warming, and Rarity's got gifts to give. And she won't let something as mundane as the end of the world get in her way. Time to panic will have to come later.

Twilight was never comfortable with the decision made on that day. After a decade of cleaning up the messes her predecessors had left behind, she couldn't in good conscience leave another behind for whoever followed in her hoofsteps.

Think that's actually a first for me.

Tirek got everything he ever wanted. All the magic in Equestria. His vengeance fulfilled. The kingdom in ruin. Yet his fury remained as unrelenting as his newfound power. Countless years after his victory, there is nothing else to conquer, no new horizons to reach, only himself and the voices of the past in a dead world. He pays one last visit to those he plunged in Tartarus on the day of his coronation, as he has done many times before. But this time, something is different. Something is wrong.

Equestria is sometimes referred to as the land of second chances, all the more so after Luna's return. Songs are sung of Princess Celestia's benevolence and forgiveness, and legends are told that she can look directly into a creature's heart and see whether there is good in them. Others whisper that she is soft, and weak, and will let anypony off with a slap on the wrist.

Neither is quite true, but there was quite a firestorm of rumours when she decided to set Discord free. Many would like to know what precisely she was thinking to attempt to put a leash on a being who could plunge the land into chaos with a casual thought, but Celestia has kept the reasons close to her chest.

She's pretty sure nopony would believe her anyway. Sometimes the truth is stranger than rumours.

Starlight Glimmer is many things. Master of the arcane arts, Headmare of the School of Friendship, Savior of Equestria, and a truly fantastic friend to those she holds dear. Apparently, according to Trixie and Sunburst, she's also an awesome marefriend. There is, of course, one big problem with that theory: How can you be an awesome marefriend if you don't even know you're dating your best friends in the first place? Starlight may or may not need to add "Romantically Inept Doofus" to her list of titles.
