A horrible Cataclysm has turned all of Equestria into a Wasteland of barren ash and twilight desolation. The Sun and the Moon have been destroyed. Everypony has died--including Princesses Luna and Celestia. But one pony miraculously survives; she is a lone wanderer, the last of her kind, surrounded by menacing creatures that hate her. She navigates the Wastes in an airship and scavenges off the blighted landscape to keep herself alive.

Then one day she meets an old companion who grants her a gift, the chance to go back in time to the warm and sunny days of Ponyville, where her dead friends live in happiness. How far will the last pony venture into this joyous age of Equestria, even if she fully knows that there is no way to change the horrible fate of everypony she loves?

After a lot of good and careful planning, Equestria's greatest invention is ready to go: Fast Aerial Transportation of Pony Lot and Neighboring Equines, or FAT PLaNE, a wonderful aircraft which is commodious and light at the same time. Surely, this splendid innovation by Equestria's never-failing two expert inventors will revolutionize aviation more than anything else. With the blessing of Princess Celestia herself, and with the two most experienced pilots who are definitely suited for the job, safety is guaranteed for the freight and passengers. And they are absolutely not suffering from either aerophobia or ophiophobia. For that matter, security risks and/or snakes are positively not a problem here.

It is the day of the Summer Sun Celebration, and Princess Celestia is coming to Ponyville. Twilight Sparkle is overseeing preparations yet again, and has meticulously planned every last detail to ensure that everything is perfect for her mentor's arrival. Nothing is going to go wrong.

Except when the big day comes, Twilight has gotten four hours of sleep and Fluttershy is nowhere to be found. Pinkie Pie sets off after her with nothing but a dark coat and the voice of a chain-smoking stallion, and the Apples and the Carrots are at each other's throats while Rainbow Dash is attempting to fill in for Fluttershy.

As her plans collapse around her and Ponyville descends into chaos, Twilight Sparkle must focus on obtaining the one thing that can set everything right: the all-powerful, awe-inspiring magic of caffeine.

The Mane-Event, a popular stage show in Manehattan, has acquired a rare creature they intend to use as part of a new act. Their typical animal handlers prove inadequate for the new job so they invite Equestria's best to be the caretaker-- Fluttershy. Moving to a new city requires the inconvenience of finding a new place to stay, however. What fortune that Trixie, one of the primary acts of the Mane-Event, just so happens to have free space at her apartment.

After a brief spat with Spike over a seemingly trivial matter Twilight decides that in order to learn more about dragons she should try to become one. With a simple spell she transforms her little pony self into a larger dragon and quickly realizes that she has no way to change back available to her....
