With a recommendation from Principal Celestia, Sunset Shimmer seeks out employment at a small shop near Canterlot High. Unbeknownst to her, however, the shopkeeper and her employees are hiding secrets of their own, and know more about her than she thinks.

Set in the Trio-verse, an AU where Celestia was banished, and Luna took up Sunset, Trixie and Twilight as her students. Recommend reading Luna's Protégé and The Fillies of Canterlot Castle before this one.

Alone and afraid, Sunset Shimmer has been living off of the streets in Canterlot ever since she ran away from home. She is barely holding on as it is and winter is coming soon, and Sunset doesn't know how she's going to survive this one. On a particularly cold night, she's out searching for something to eat when she bumps into the last pony she expects to see walking through the slums: Princess Celestia.

Sunset knew something was wrong when she woke up in Twilight’s castle since she had no recollection how she even got there. She soon discovered that Twilight was missing and nobody seemed to remember who Twilight was. But that was the least of her worries when she found out she has become an alicorn princess and may have taken over Twilight's life. With no clue as to where Twilight was or why they had switched roles, Sunset was determined to find Twilight. With the help of Spike and Twilight’s friends, Sunset set out to find her presumed missing friend.

Equestria and Yakyakistan are friends for a thousand moons thanks to the ingenious efforts of Pinkie Pie. However, Twilight still feels guilty about letting everything get out of control like she did. During the party, she approaches Princess Celestia and Prince Rutherford to issue her heartfelt apology in private. But as she soon discovers, she's not the only one who needs to brush up on her diplomacy.

When Principal Celestia suggests to Princess Twilight that she assign a representative in the inevitable event that the government takes an interest in a portal to another world on her school's campus, Twilight sends a mare with lots of experience traveling and dealing with beings of all stripes, plus the ego to keep from being cowed by agents of a foreign government. Besides, Trixie could use a...third chance, after all.
Meanwhile, the student Trixie is being disciplined. Her punishment? Escorting a new student around the school for at least 30 days. That student? Twilight Sparkle, new transfer from Crystal Prep.
