Long-limbed creatures began to emerge by the hundreds from Everfree forest, mysterious, raving, strangely intent on the ponies... especially on a select few of them, among which those wielding the Elements of Harmony. Soon, Twilight left to investigate the cause and never returned. One could almost suspect a dark plot, if not for...

Before Equestria, before the Elements of Harmony, before pegasi, unicorns, and even ponies, there were two alicorn fillies living in pure peace before a young spirit came and changed everything.

These changes set many events into motion which, in turn, eventually shaped the Equestria that is well known today.

But what of the past? How did this all begin? Why are things the way they are?

Twilight Sparkle struggles to find a meaningful gift for Princess Celestia.

Imagine what would have happened if, 1000 years ago, Equestria's rulers were of a different mindset. If Princess Luna had felt appreciated, and understood how needed she was, and if that favor had tainted Celestia with jealousy and suspicion, what would our modern Equestria be like? If hurt feelings and anger had driven Celestia to take on the persona of DayStar and usher in eternal day and endless summer, would friendship still be as magical? Would any be free from DayStar's iron hoof?
