Six mares who've never met, will suddenly be thrown together as an ancient threat returns imperiling their entire world. Now these unlikely heroes must band together, or their entire world is doomed to eternal darkness.

This is a dark fantasy retelling of the series premiere, using Dungeons and Dragons 3.5 edition rules, spells, and monsters. It was an idea that I've been wanting to write for a good while, and I hope folks enjoy it.

After Twilight's ascension to an alicorn, many more ancient evils escaped from their imprisonment and were attempting to destroy or conquer Equestria.

With the elements of Harmony busier than ever dealing with these new threats, Spike grows worried about the increasing danger they're being forced to put themselves in. Tired of being a burden, he searches for a way to become stronger so that he may help, hopefully discovering his own path along the way.

None know of a past war, forgotten by even the co-rulers of Equestria, the Princesses Celestia and Luna. One such monster from the past rises, proving that even the most powerful Alicorns can have their seeming aura of invincibility shattered. A dragon wanders through a starless night, into a land that banished him centuries ago. Never did he imagine he would return to the world that cursed his very existence, but when the sun and moon failed to rise one fateful day, something compelled him to begin the long journey home to the princess who shattered his heart.

Pincer is a changeling, a proud soldier of Queen Chrysalis. After the failed invasion of Canterlot, he finds himself trapped and at the mercy of Princess Celestia's Royal Guard. Believing that Celestia sees his species as nothing but soulless monsters, he prepares himself for the worst. The weeks crawl by, marked by an endless series of questions he will not answer for fear of endangering his friends and family at The Hive. As his nerves wear down and his interrogators learn just how ruthless he thinks they are, they have nothing to report but his belief that they will kill and destroy his kind without mercy.

Celestia steps in to prove him wrong, and what Pincer learns leaves him questioning everything he has ever known — but also gives him hope for what he'd never thought possible.
