Ever since Twilight Sparkle has taken the steps to princesshood, Ivory Scroll has become obsolete as Ponyville's Mayor-Mare. Nothing could be more devastating to her, and she aims to renew her sense of purpose in the world.

It turns out all it takes is to find a world without a Twilight Sparkle.

What's confusing about that?

10639159
It's like there hasn't been those things together before, right?

10639349
I’m so confused why the genre tags somehow are this notable.

10639381
They're fine. I was just calling him out.

The only humanoid variants that exist among them are either extinct or in their fantasy novels.

... Darn it, now you've got me wondering about the other offshoots of Homo in that world. And how this one overtook H. sapiens sapiens, because you can't tell me those stick-thin apes of paradise have our exact genome.

But, while the comparative sociology between worlds is fascinating indeed, that's not what we're here for. Looking forward to seeing where you go from here.

10639381
If I had to guess, I think it's because this introduction doesn't seem to qualify for those genres. Presumably they'll come in time.

10639159
Feel free to use words to express yourself. Words other than "hmm."

10639387
Damn, am I no longer allowed to have slow-burn surprises?

Edit: this was a hard story to tag, so I’m open to suggestions!

Honestly, the Mayor always felt like the odd pony out. Equestria was an absolute monarchy for 1,000 years under Celestia. And now whatever it's called with 3 ruling princesses, democracy feels even more out of place.

But that's just me. This should be a fun read.

10639679

Honestly, the Mayor always felt like the odd pony out.

There's no need to bully her like that. Pls no make horse sad.

10639505

Damn, am I no longer allowed to have slow-burn surprises

No need to pay attention to people who are somehow more focused on specific genre tags than enjoying an engaging story. Talk about majoring in the minors as a reader...

A bit off-topic, but genre tags have always irked me personally as both a reader and writer. I understand most people like to know what type of story they're getting into, but I personally love the suspense of not knowing what genre I'm reading. I love it when a story switches genre and surprises the hell out of me in the best way. Stuff like Bojack Horseman, Undertale and Mother 3 comes to mind. But, like I said, most people aren't like this.

They're particularly helpful for digital libraries. I'd say as long as you don't end up with a system like AO3, you're doing something right. Fimfic having basic, broad categories makes sense and isn't too different from anything you'd find in a bookstore. Those don't exactly spoil the book to me. Groups are honestly way more of a spoiler, as are comments. I wish there was a way for an author to be able to mark a reader's comment as containing huge spoilers for a story. Deleting otherwise inoffensive comments is kind of a dick move, and people don't always know what they're in for when checking the comments.

Bojack is a spectacular example of mixed genres working wonderfully, so good taste there. I still haven't caught up on the last season though, pls no spoils. It's honestly a bad time to get my feelings squashed considering how things have been lately.

We never saw her counterpart but it's easy to think she us the local town mayor. Nothing for Mayor Mare to do, start with a bit of ultra-violence and replace her counterpart.

>no violence tag
Perhaps that will be the case gamer
Perhaps not

Glad to see this up and running! :ajsmug:

Don’t think I didn’t catch that election pun on my political horse story using a political pun in the title.

👀🔪

10639387
Why bother? You guys got an author to ban me and delete my “hm” comments just a few weeks ago. I’m obviously wasting my time commenting.

10640571
I don’t delete comments unless they break site rules or block people (from my comments) unless they do similar things, like attacking myself or my readers. The only person who has ever deleted your comments from my pages has been you.

You’ve commented borderline spam on story after story of mine, generally never explaining yourself or what your opinion on the story is (much less what in the story informs it). No one has any idea how to improve or understand anything because your comments are generally either vague punctuation, brief to the point of being nonsensical, or contain outright insults. This is always what I have seen you double down on despite the fact if you made clear comments in the first place, it never would have happened.

10640662
Trolls. Trolls are everywhere.

10640665
Probably, though I don’t see enough of the more intentionally malicious mannerisms characteristic of them. If anything, this user comes across as more of a bot.

10650059
Yeah, I am. Thanks for recognizing that.

10650101
Why did you reply with no context to my own comment and a link to another one? That feels like a misclick.

O boy, the plot thickens

10650449
Yes, but does it dummy thiccen?

10650479
A story must contain at least three chapters of plot thickening before it can be considered dummy thicc.

Currently it is simply

I accept this status, and I assure you that it only gets thiccer from here.

Interesting how timberwolves are categorized as "leftovers of the divine."

In any case... Yeah, hopefully Twilight helps shift the culture of mental health in Equestria in the coming years. Ignoring the problem doesn't solve it, and if anypony can help reduce the stigma, it's the Princess of Neuroses.

But that's a matter for the future. For now, there's the question of just what Ivory's going to do about everything worthwhile in life getting sucked out of her.

Going back over this, I'm not sure how to feel about the phrasing. Since you drew such focus to it, I'm not sure if how you're reading it is different from what I intended it to mean. Could you clarify how you interpreted it so I can decide whether or not it should be changed?

That's what this horse is for. Unfortunately, some of my ideas with her that are more specifically focused on that idea are still in development and just generally in the status of upcoming/on the backburner. So, sorry I can't toss too many of them at you right now. If you wanted them, that is.

But that's a matter for the future. For now, there's the question of just what Ivory's going to do about everything worthwhile in life getting sucked out of her.

There are still plenty of chapters left! And over 6k words to go! I think. I can't count.

I'm kind of ashamed that Luna, Equestria's Royal Therapist (no, the other way around) never came to mind when I discussed alicorns and mental health.

As for the timberwolves, it's this sentence in particular:

Timberwolves, ancient ruins, and the other leftovers of the divine were all perfectly natural plights within those deep, dark woods.

That Oxford comma after "ancient ruins" tells me this is a three-item list, and thus ruins and wolves are both leftovers of the divine. And it's as reasonable an origin for the things as any other theory I've heard.

You're not the first one to forget poor best hoers.

I'm sure that there will be zero consequences whatsoever to this.

My apologies for not being clearer with my question. I meant in what sense did you gather them as being related to the divine: did you interpret them as being direct by-products or simply involved/there with them/something less direct? There was one particular sense I was going for, and depending on which one you took it to be, it's my fault for not being clearer.

10651628
Honestly, I hadn't thought too much about the details there. Your circus, your monkeys; I'm just in the audience. I'd figured you'd get to it if/when you got to it. Given how this story seems to be heading away from the Everfree, I just thought it was a neat tidbit that bore mentioning in my comment. Indeed, the fact that I didn't know the particulars was part of why I found it interesting.

10651648
...Okay, that's a good third option I hadn't considered. I've just always been a stickler for details and have gotten feedback on things like this in the past, so I'm trying to avert that kind of confusion. Especially, y'know, considering I've been going through a lot of older stuff and giving it the hugest fuckin' facelifts for print. Overall, I just want this to be a good reading experience, even in the stray details. My prereader/editor drew no attention to it, so I wasn't sure how much consideration it needed when you highlighted the sentence as interesting.

...As good as the tag combo can suggest, anyway.

Everfree as Everglades... Yeah, it works. I usually put human Canterlot in California, but Florida's also an option. Plus, this means CHS shenanigans can lead to headlines like "Florida Girl Tears Apart Space and Time; School Board Unavailable for Comment."

Ah. Hiding the magical shenanigans in a smokescreen of Florida People. Brilliant.

It was just a reminder that 'civil servant' was no different than saying 'civil slave'

Now, now, she's still getting paid. It's not like she's an intern.

In any case, lovely glimpse of the other side of the equation. Looking forward to seeing how you balance it.

10657299

Ah. Hiding the magical shenanigans in a smokescreen of Florida People. Brilliant.

I mean, I like to think my stories are more inclusive than describing JUST people! I mentioned furries AND cheerleaders, after all! :trixieshiftleft:

I was thrown off at first, but I’mma see where this goes

'Sunset Shimmer Is Florida Woman' suddenly makes everything make way more sense.

10657342
Thank you, and I hope you continue to stick around/come to enjoy the human side of the mirror.
10657414
I keep my tin foil hat on right, as you might be able to see.

10657431
I’m cool with both, I just didn’t see the EQG tag so reading them as humans took a minute to adjust

10657447
Huh. Maybe there is a way that I could label stories more carefully in the future?

10657460
No no, it’s all fine bud. I was just being a dumbass lol

so we have a prince and the pauper situation

10657738
We might. My lips here are sealed. 👀

Mayor-Mare could not help but notice that regardless of how useful it was, Twilight Sparkle's castle cast a long shadow.

A translucent, purple shadow, but a long one all the same.

Madam Mayor of Canterly was a lucky woman. She would never have to know her world's Twilight Sparkle. The young woman would never go on to outrank her, and for that, she would never understand how blessed she was.

So that's a no on Sunset Shimmer becoming a benevolent philosopher-queen?

Only the use of bizarre pictographs most frequently featuring eggplants, puzzled expressions, feces, and assorted fruits was the close, if incomprehensible second.

She's not wrong.

Quite the meeting. Pony-Ivory has prepared for this moment quite carefully. Now to see what she has to propose.

Okay... now the plot is dummy thick.
This is getting really interesting, can’t wait to see how things play out

10670475

Okay... now the plot is dummy thick.

Perfecto. I've achieved such thiccness once again with a story.

10670441

So that's a no on Sunset Shimmer becoming a benevolent philosopher-queen?

Gonna have to point out my general lack of Equestria Girls content compared to the pony side of my 'verse as the closest thing I have to an answer.

[insert the kids these days remark here]

I wonder if it's a trap and Ivory Scroll is going to bury her human double in the backyard, the way we all know Sunset Shimmer did.

10674681
... I actually have one story so far about Sunset Shimmer’s human double.

Or, at the very least, something like it.

EDIT: Here it is.

TProdigal Sun
Moving to another world means you get to leave whatever you want behind. For Sunset Shimmer, that will always be more of a blessing than a curse. Now, one conversation over tea will set in motion the future of two worlds.
