At the bottom of Stable 10, the great generator that has kept its residents alive for centuries is beginning to fail. As solutions are sought within, one pegasus sets her sights on the very ponies who built - and possibly sabotaged - her home.

Congratulations, Ellie, you've made a character in Ironshod that I haven't felt a deep, blood-boiling hatred for since Chainlink Shackles or Lord Merryweather. Glad to see he got his ass kicked, but sad to see that he didn't get his head turned into Spaghettios.
Merry Christmas everyone! Another great chapter Ellie
Wow. Just... Wow. This freight train just picked up speed roaring down the hill to the end...

Con all the birbhorses! ;) New chapter is up too, by the by!

^_^ I've been waiting for so long to write him in these chapters ever since I first introduced him. For all his faults, he does keep his promises. And it goes to show how far someone might reach to justify their own twisted reality.

Merry Christmas! Thank you for reading!

Oh believe me, the brakes just fell off. ;)
Jfc ironshod went off the deepend. Good long chapter. I think its getting very close to where the side story fits into this thing. Assuming it's meant to actually fit in.
God damn tension just keeps winding and winding, I love it! You really grasped the art of keeping a reader entertained and in awe of what's going on. And the action just keeps getting better and better!
(Checking: did you see my comment on the previous chapter? No worries if you just haven't gotten to it, but I wanted to check it hadn't been missed.)

Well, Aurora is alive and rescued! Though her exact health is uncertain. Along with the status of the talisman. And how welcome the party will be in the city after the suspiciously-timed Enclave attack.
So. You know. A bit of a cliffhanger. :D
(My, so far, though, at least, this appears to be going very well for Primrose. From the sound of it, the AAA was successfully destroyed, and meanwhile, Aurora has been rescued without her own ponies having to step in. True, Primrose has probably lost points for the delay and keeping the party out of the loop, but she can quite plausibly claim to have been wanting to make sure this was taken care of properly. Like, say, not having just one tired, frantic unicorn go in on her own, nearly killed killed or captured herself, and either nearly or actually get the ignition talisman destroyed. And it's not like she had their full trust anyway. And, of course, if the talisman is destroyed? Well, where's the party's most likely source for another one, now? And if the Enclave indeed successfully manages to press the fruits of this attack all the way to the cider of expanding to control, among other places, the land over Aurora's Stable... well.)
Anyway, thanks for writing! :D

Ironshod has absolutely let his paranoia override his ability to think objectively. Haphazardly lying about her association with the Enclave paid of for Aurora & Co. in the short term, but none of them could have known it would come chasing them across the wasteland days later. And yes! This is very close to the link in the story that joins Renewal with One Size Fits All. ;)

I still need to make the edits you shared last chapter and with this one, thanks for reminding me! Life has been extra life since November but it should be back on track soon.
Things are going very well for Primrose right now, that's for sure. With the exception of Coronado, the Rangers are doing a supreme job of destroying any trust Aurora & Co. might have in the organization. And while none of them are under any illusion that the Enclave stands for good and decency, at least Primrose hasn't tried jerking the rug from under them. She's been downright helpful!

"but none of them could have known it would come chasing them across the wasteland days later."
Aye, Ironshod's, ah, mental difficulties did indeed make him hard to predict, for quite a few parties, it appears.
"And yes! This is very close to the link in the story that joins Renewal with One Size Fits All."
Ah, thanks for the information.
I may have asked us before, but will you be notifying us explicitly when we reach the point where that fits between events in this story? Or would/could fit, if it's not canon to this one; I don't recall or know one way or the other, there.
"I still need to make the edits you shared last chapter and with this one, thanks for reminding me!"
Oh, you're welcome. :)
"Life has been extra life since November"
Aye, sorry about that.
"but it should be back on track soon."
Ah, good; I hope things go well.
"Things are going very well for Primrose right now, that's for sure. With the exception of Coronado, the Rangers are doing a supreme job of destroying any trust Aurora & Co. might have in the organization."
And even the trust in Coronado still isn't trust in the organization. And as I think I mentioned, there's now the question of how much Coronado will trust the party, too...
"And while none of them are under any illusion that the Enclave stands for good and decency, at least Primrose hasn't tried jerking the rug from under them. She's been downright helpful! "
Well, when you get right down to it, I think Primrose would be happy to see Aurora, Ginger, Julip, and Roach all go down into a repaired Stable (in a way she could either bury or spin the additions in her favor), lock the door behind themselves, and remove Stable 10 as a potential problem for her for another few centuries. And that'd align pretty well with what the party wants, too -- they'd just have to decide whether they were okay with basically being bribed to look the other way from the Enclave's more questionable actions. And since Primrose lost the ability to take care of this quietly and more permanently before she personally found out Aurora existed, she has substantial incentive to get them to take that bribe and not make trouble.
Whereas the Rangers, very helpfully to Primrose, are trying to break into Stable 10 and take it for their own use, with the fate of those currently in it left ominously uncertain. And when Enclave agents have gone rogue around the party, it's been to help the party even more; when Rangers have gone rogue around the party, well, see recent events. And even looking away from the party's own personal interests, sure, the Rangers are better than the Enclave in not having the latter's faux-pegasus-supremacism or an equivalent -- but they still appear to take the view that if you have something they want, hoof it over or else.
Oh, and apparently sometimes members of the group just grab civilians for off-the-books torture. Sure, that probably doesn't happen often... but if the Enclave hadn't actually been interested in Aurora, and Aurora hadn't had a friend able to force a meeting with Coronado, would anyone have found out about this? And if not, how many other times have things like this happened? I don't know -- but I imagine that the party, if they think about it, will also be aware that they don't know. One of a number of reasons to question just how good an Equestrian Wasteland under uncontested Ranger dominance would be. Better than the status quo? Probably. Better than the Enclave fully taking over? Certainly better for dustwings. But enough better to be worth passing up the Enclave's generous offer of safety below the ground, for you, your friends, and your family, to fight on the Rangers' side and actively help them conquer? That I am more inclined to doubt.
And, of course, there's no way our heroes could just stand up to both factions and get away with it. They're just a few ponies, and, I mean, it's not like they have some massive force multiplier like, to pick an example completely at random, a fully operational orbital strategic weapons platform. :)
(But, of course -- then that imposes its own choices. Such as, is Empress Aurora Pinfeathers On Whose Will Does Balefire Lance From The Sky To Devour Her Enemies really who you want to be? And if you're not willing to use the weapon, well, then you're trying to bluff two heavily armed and adversarial powers into backing down -- and how good are you at bluffing?)
...Anyway, I remain quite interested in seeing where this story goes. :D
I absolutely love how in depth this story is. So much detail. So much hard work put into the word play, the system itself. A well oiled story for sure.
Cannot wait for more. You've written gold and silver into this story, and its become platinum after all this time
Good job bud.
Excellent chapter!
F##k Ironshod. I think a gelding would have been fitting for what he did. And maybe amputating a certain body part to go along with that, and maybe a broken horn.

Needs more gun
The entire prison is white torture rooms? That's dark, even for Primrose. I never thought I'd feel bad for Autumn Song, but not even she deserves to be slowly driven insane. She really would be better off being used, worked, or killed by slavers. I doubt we hear much from her again, but I sorta hope we find out what happens to her in the end.
Got caught up. Great story!

That had to be a journey and a half! ;) Welcome to the waiting room with everyone else! Despite the notable gap between now and the last chapter, I'm still a-chugging along on the next pair which will be released in close succession to one another. Just making sure the continuity, chronology and chaos gods approve of them first!
Sigh, I see you make the mistake many others do of using "decimate" when you really mean "devastate". The two words don't actually mean the same thing, lol.
11424812
The 90% reduction definition is the most literal of those available, sure, but not the only one. Language is fluid, and I don't think my use of decimation in this context is invalid.
The relief I feel at this is deep, cathartic, welcome. But man I've been disassembled by the previous torture she's experienced and so it feels less a victory and more a "if they don't find her soon Im gonna have some issues here"
That's not a critique of your writing btw just relating the emotional impact. Aurora is such a good bean and didn't deserve this
I want to say that Ginger was out of line in this chapter. There was a reason Chops and Dancer were keeping Aurora's whereabouts undisclosed. They wanted to prevent her from being rash, something they ultimately were unable to stop after being sufficiently threatened. Ginger was being outrageously reckless in both her usage of magic against others, and her decided absence of effective combat magic in her fight with Ironshit. In other words, she was sloppy and careless. While I haven't yet read the next chapters, something tells me that carelessness resulted in the destruction of a very important item.
This isn't a criticism of your writing, just my observation of the character's personality flaws.
The extraction team was right there. One could argue that it doesn't matter as long as she saves Aurora, but there's more at stake. Her own safety, the safety of her companions which she disregarded, the enclave soldiers whose lives she is risking execution of, the talisman and by extension Stable 10.
It's going to be hard to sympathize with the consequences of Ginger's actions. My guess is Primrose will be even less enthused.
Alternatively, from a different perspective, Ginger can morally justify everything she did.
