At the bottom of Stable 10, the great generator that has kept its residents alive for centuries is beginning to fail. As solutions are sought within, one pegasus sets her sights on the very ponies who built - and possibly sabotaged - her home.

Haven't read this yet but is there any connection or inspiration from City of Ember?
I didn't say it before, but I will say it now. Your writing of Twilight is seriously hampering my ability to enjoy the rest of the story. She is a monster, but only because you wrote her that way and I loathe it.
"The sandstone outcrop she’d perched herself on wasn’t much of a watchpost but it was good enough for the stallions she went out with."
...Don't think I get that one, sorry.
Another fun chapter! Well. From this side of the screen, at least. :)
(Okay, some of the parts were good on their side too, but that bit at the end, well. :D)
Thank you for writing!

You're close! I drew inspiration from Hugh Howey's Silo trilogy :)
10291919
Well tell her to stop it! ;)
10292086
Heh, sorry yeah, think of it as a ledge of rock jutting from a hillside. I could have explained that a bit better. Glad you're still following it!
10292125
...Is it an entendre? That still doesn't seem to me to fit that well, but it's the best-sounding explanation I've thought of so far.
And oh, aye, I am indeed. :)
10292145
It's not intended to be one, no. Our family used to take vacations in the Rockies, and we'd hike some of the foothills near Idaho. A lot of the trails would stop at these flat table rocks with amazing views, which is what I was imagining Julip parking on sans that view given it's night. ;p
10292123
Okay.
Stop it.
10292585
Stop... what?
10292516
I'm glad you liked it! In all honesty I'm not trying to parallel this with Kkat's original. I would be lying if I said I remembered that much detail from her's. It's been a hot minute since I've read it. I admittedly had to skim the last third to get through it. >< No plans to add in characters to mimic Littlepip & Co, sorry!
Twilight is definitely coping with her stresses in a less than ideal way. I like the idea of her reacting to the pressure less as a zany list-obsessed personality and more as someone who's in over their head and lashes out when it seems like anything is about to be pulled out of her control. I've known people like that and I've been that person so it's a pretty familiar place.
I don't think it's spoiling anything to say that Discord's fear in Ch.22 is genuine. Showing her Entropy/Balefire was done to explain why magic sometimes doesn't work perfectly. He didn't expect her to pursue Starswirl's research on it, let alone cast or weaponize it. He's aware of the destruction it can cause and is very much afraid for his personal safety. Like he said in their first scene, ponies terrify him. ;)
Lots more to come!

Oh not insulting at all! I'm sure there's bound to be some similarities between our stories. I just love the FoE setting, and after trying to read a few of the prominent stories I thought I might as well take a crack at it! I wanted to try to write something in this genre that's a little bit more grounded in reality. :)
I've always been a big fan of Q from Star Trek, and there was a scene where Picard confronts him on his theatrics and lack of directness. They have a brief talk about Shakespeare and Picard ends up quoting a line from Hamlet that compares humans to gods. It's the one time I remember seeing Q get genuinely pissed off, because Picard tells him that he thinks humans will rise to that level someday. It lays bare that the Q are afraid of humanity obtaining something, and in my mind I think Entropy as a tangible force would check that box for Discord. ;)

Ah, so the line was supposed be suggesting it was like the sort of place the stallions she dated would take her on said dates, only, presumably, not out in the middle of the dangerous wasteland? Is that it?
(And glad it sounds like you enjoyed those vacations, and thanks for the brief description. :))
10293661
Oh, the "good enough for the stallions she went out with" bit? That was a bit of a gag, yes. Just some flavor to set her internal monologue apart from the others. Not meant to be read literslly, haha.
10293696
Oh! Er, yes, that part was the focus of my question, basically; I had no problem with the rest, except in how it might be affected by whatever that meant. Was that not clear? Sorry.
I'm afraid I'm now even more confused on what that means now, though, since apparently the text from you I was trying to use to understand it was about something else. And I don't know what reading that literally (which is I assume what you meant to type) would even mean, sorry. But apparently that part was clear enough to you that you didn't even realize it was the part I was asking about?
...So, yes, feeling very, very confused here just now.

Stop making Twilight a heartless bastard with no redeeming qualities.
... Well, actually, It's too late for that.
10294138
I mean... it's not too late. :3
10294556
She already murdered more than a dozen innocent ponies because of a silly grudge. Unless she is single-hoofedly responsible for pony-kind's survival, I don't see her character recovering from that.
10295175
Okay, well, there IS that... XD
another great chapter :D keep up the great work
10299200
Thank you!
Well that last part was definitely chilling. I hope Discord managed to someho survive in the end. I also wonder if Twilight will realise in the end the cost of not listening to Discord's warnings.
10305885
I admit nothing!! ;)
Wow...now I REALLY wanna see discord.
Ah, their own little Chernobyl.
The ending scene between Discord and Twilight is spectacular!
Discord is outright stating that Baal's Fire does not behave like regular fire, but Twilight refuses to listen.
Twilight is so sinfully engrossed in her hubris that she refuses to recognize that she is the reason scores of ponies died. All because she was too vindictive to allow Trixie to succeed.
Discord fully realizes the imminent danger that lies ahead, could one even begin to imagine the hopelessness he must feel?
After this chapter, I would say that Twilight is objectively the evil one. It's not even negligence fueled by ambition at this point, it is willful and sourced from malice.
I love this random analogy.
I understand his mistrust but taking pleasure in the embarrassment of people you don't like always felt undignified for me

If I didn't spoil it for myself earlier, the leadup plus this tidbit definitely fit into the deathclaw scene
NGL I'm really with julip on this one. She's been treated like trash by everyone till this point, which is like no way to actually win someone over to your side. If they were more respectful with her, I feel like she could be won over, possibly, to seeing that these "lesser beings" are actual people too
What a horrendous wretch. She killed over a hundred people because of a 20 year old childish vendetta. And then the narcissistic nag has the nerve to push the blame onto Trixie for it. I try not to wish bad on others even if they deserve it, but as a fictional character I hope she gets her comeuppance.
It's all her fault. In her asinine, childish pride, she singlehandedly destroyed the world. Man, my loathing for this scumbag is seething. I use her emote only cause it's the only one angry enough but man this story and the last one I read may just manage to dislodge her from my favorite. Like even tho its an AU her image is irreparably fetid.
