When I first saw that line, I nearly aspirated my lemonade all over my new computer. Nicely done!
Can't wait for the next chapter. Looks like nothing is merry in Londonderry...
If boars reproduce quickly and when full grown are so destructive, just how many wolf packs would be needed to keep their numbers down? Those things are like a psycopathic bull with legs half the height.
Rockhoof now has his very own Schmendrick The Magnificent for Court Jester? He would have to lose a Lot of weight though?
In town, a local argument, or have the Fail been stripping and cleansing the local areas?
If lions and gazelles could get out of the zoos, zebras would be similar, associated enclosures, and Elephants would only have problems if they were in their reinforced night areas, given their use of tools with any increased intelligence? Never mind if theres other animals that might assist?
Wonder which primates survived?

Way too many to really counter boars in the first years, and that's with packs from reserves managing to escape. If I'm entirely honest I'd assume the first few years after the Event would be extremely damaging to forestry until the boars' damage reduce the food supply to the point that they cull themselves and not by predators' fangs. And even then you have stuff like magic boosting plant growth, monsters (and particularly timberwolves).
And to make it worse all these animals can probably feed off of humanity's ruins. The only saving grace with that is if wild dog packs are significant enough to pose a threat to boars. And... I've seen the damage a boar's tusks can do to dogs (a jack russel in that case, the poor thing). Would need a lot of dogs.
Given that I've already shown lemurs escaping during the Antwerp arc? Let's be fair, the smart chimps likely had no problems getting out, and I'm pretty sure there are a couple 'free range' monkey hill zoos all over Europe. I know of at least one.

Sorry for the confusion, I beleive Ive forgotton what the specifics of the magic pulse are that it took out humans only, given the genetic varients between humans and certain other primates are so small, primarily in genetic expression leading to structural and neural alterations leading to complex speech capabilities?

The big difference between humans and primates (in the setting)?
Humans are connected to magic, primates aren't. Humans have a self-developped (through the humans are orks thing) deadly aversion to magic, primates don't.
Thing is, humans didn't loose their ability to produce magic either, because in PaP, magic is sentience. If they became completely inert to magic like animals, they'd just have regressed back to primate-level intelligence. It just decreased to just enough to sustain sentience, but without the bells and whistles of magic added to it anymore. And the magic is sentience thing, is also why regular animals get an intelligence boost from the ambient magic. They don't make their own like humans did (because Earth prior to the Event never had a thaumic field), so instead they're starting to become like Equestrian creatures that derive their intelligence from the ambient magic.
Now that I think about it, you could divide living creatures in three groups:
-Magic producers (they create mana on their own) → Humans (the ability was also kept when the Event transformed them)
-Magic processers (their body uses ambient mana to accomplish stuff) → Equestrian species, both monsters, plants and sapient species
-Magic neutrals (they don't make nor process magic) → Regular animals (though the magic field does boost their intelligence)
And as a last reminder:
Earth (human) magic is fully internal and created by individuals
Equestrian (pony) magic is fully external and revolves around processing ambient magic
Hope that helps.
as a hunter my self i have no problem at all with hunting.
a grate chapter i love it.
Hybrid wild boar/domesticated hogs have become a big environmental problem here in the US. They eat just about anything, tear up the farmers’ fields and woods getting at roots and ground species eggs, they breed two or three times a year with litters of 6 piglets, and a group of hogs can beat off anything up to coyotes and wolves (for those not familiar with coyotes, they look like a smaller, leaner wolf halfway between a wolf and a fox in size). In Texas and New Mexico, there’s effectively no bag limit hunting them, and hogs have become a threat in eastern California and parts of central Oregon.
