The Enemy has a AWACS/Tank? As in EE Doc Smith, not the mobile fortress thing? this is going to be messy.
At least the shrine can be happy the refinery crew cant give them what they want, roll up with tirty thousand litres of light fuels in a tanker, then pour it down into the cavern, and walk away with a disposable cigarette?
Thing if the Equestrian link is Exponential, and the Girls realm is more human, then multiple stages within limits would allow a spanning network, maybe even resiliance, due to possible reinforcement between connections, pulling from teh displacement of one to reduce its stress, to pump the capabiliites of another link, to stabilise that also? Like Azimovs, The Gods Themselves?
Hmm. Quetzalcoatl is prolly gonna show up if your pulling blood gods. Quetzalcoatl is practically in every somewhat well know religion from Mexico.
Also, wonder if the WSU can get it’s hands on a (semi)-proper warship. even just a Liberty or Victory ship would be leaps and bounds above some civilian ships with mg’s.
Also any defenders with a MG, a defensible position, and enough ammo can hold off almost any force that is less than 5 to 10 times its size. how many depends on how mush ammo they have and how good their position is.
I prefer Bavarian standoffs, personally.
Also, I don't suppose it's Rodrigo Hardflanks, Stallion of the Sun?

Really depends how you perceive the rift between dimensions and how you wrap your mind around it. In fact I even had a hard time deciding whether the EG 'dimension' should be its own thing, or a plane of existence tied to Equestria in the same fashion that divine realms like the Otherworld are tied to Earth.
Considering the mirrored places and characters, it was more logical that it be its own thing.
As for connections and energy requirements... the way I visualize it, dimensions are like entities that move towards and away from each other. Probably not like stellar bodies, since they'd have their own laws to obey, but you could reasonably chart the interdimensional distance on a periodic function?
Though with that train of thought... it's not beyond the realm of imagination to start up with concepts like slingshot manoeuvres, multi-dimensional anchoring and whatnot.

For the Liverty ship... meh, you're most likely better off adding gun mounts to modern warships than you'd be restricting yourself to antiquated ships like those. Maritime tech has advanced tremendously since WW2, and they were already obsolete when they entered service. Empire ships I wouldn't be so harsh against... but most of those convoy freighters followed a quasi-soviet thinking of quality over quantity.
Plus Amandine can breach the 20 knots mark. A Liberty? Good fucking luck.
Still... the warship question is one that's been hovering since the begining of this story and I've weighed the pros and cons several times over. Some arguments aren't worth much, like me thinking that with Destroyermen and the whole 'Battleships' group on Fimfic there's a good supply of stories focusing on warships and that the boring but efficient cargo vessels need some love...
Others are... maybe more relevant. This story is 700K words in so far, and the biggest gun they have in the fleet is a 40mm Bofors mounted on an IFV, plus the ordnance for the torpedo escorts. I've been trying to keep things to low-intensity fighting for as long as possible. Adding a fully-fledged warship that's more than a torpedo boat or a corvette... I fear that would turn the story into pure slugfest against the demons without forcing them to use small-scale equipment and be crafty with it.
The threat of demonic pirates would be wholly different if USS Georgia could have been refloated, no?

Well, if he was then I'm pretty sure Celestia would have popped into existence in a ball of solar fire and whisked said stallion back to Equestria to a more private setting where she could explore the tales of this truly heroic stallion.
To be fair he's a spaniard. It's probably not too far off that mark.

Very true. Even then ammo also becomes a concern. 76mm guns need shells. you can’t fight enemies if you don’t have ammo or you end up wasting it all. Besides several coast guard ships have some level of armament so if they can get one that is Even lightly armed that would be a big step up.
sounds like it is time to train some snipers in vary long range shooting.
the fire power is on board in the armory, i know of one gun the is able to hit at 300+ yard vary easy and will go out to 500+ if things are right.
