A rule I learned from Monster Hunter: if it goes from trying to murder you to holding still and glowing, nothing good is about to happen.
Timberwolves are very messy enemies to combat with the sparse flexible structure. At least they could burn them, so how much experimentation is now on the books for dragons? Going through combustion products in small amounts looking for itrritations etc? How to find out about limitations, or not, of diet?
Would be useful if being lava proof etc meant the dragons could handle the chemical catastrophes, if only for searching for information and plastic sealed resources in contaminated locations?
At this rate, theyre going to have to consider an APC with minigun turret and one shot RPG launchers.
a grate chapter so much action it is lovely.

Actually, the ideas I had about dragons' resistance certainly don't make them invincible. They may be able to breath in combustion gases just fine and CO is no threat to them; but chemical compounds like HCN and chlorine gas will harm them. Combined with their heat resistance, this ironically makes teenaged dragon formidable firefighters, but without that ability extending to natural CBRN protection.

I understand your prefered limitations to prevent too easy OP of various abilities. I was considering if dragons were largely alumino silicate base form, with carbon used to form nanostructs like what cellulose forms but carbon nanotunbes, buckyballs, graphenes etc, but these react with oxygen, burn. Not sure of Aluminium Carbide materials but Silicon Carbide is popular. The peculiarity about CO is its immense corrosive properties. Death by CO poisoning is Heam lock, which is what HCN poisioning does? and as for chlorine being corrosive, theres a mineral refining techniques called carbochlorination, where you place the oxide of the mineral on a carbon block or similar, heat with a blowtorch, then pass chlorine over, through. The high temperature makes the carbon burn by ripping the oxygen off the mineral, letting the less reactive chlorine take its plac?. Something about how origionally Aluminium was horribly inefeciently extracted by a cascade of chemical reactions, Starting with quartz, extracting silicon, using that to thermally extract sodium, using that to thermally extract aluminium? Would be intresting to know what fluids dragons actually used, given Gallium, mercury etc.
Can post wings Spike still have Rarity drive needles through the gaps between his scales, did they even penetrate the underlaying hide in the first place? DDo dragons get less flexible due to increasing scale overlap, friction, unless they train up through molts to regain relative scale and body movement range etc?
So many questions, so little time for stories.
