The version I usually hear is
>attempted to break it off in a crevice, accidentally opened another pass through the mountains
>deciding that was pointless, found a convenient spring of deadly poison to toss it in
Now Dilip needs to ask the important question, how soon will the compound be ready for defense and how soon will Los Lobos be ready to attack ...
Oh dear, Los Lobos poked the wants to be pregnant dragon, and said dragon decided lair, hoarde and eggs need protecting and feeding, and theres fresh meat just waiting?
Strange how Sequoia, about the largest trees normally, have some of the smallest seeds? Its like dust that can float globally and try starting in the narrowest cracks?
Trouble with hot air balloons, although easy enough to create in form, and fueled with a modified blacksmiths forge and charcoal, the problem comes with the low lift per volume, meaning you have to get past a given quality of fabric and of enough amount, before you have enough lift left over for anything else, such as a toaster? Why Silk was so important origionally, especially when latex covered silk was useable for hydrogen, gained from steam and red hot charcoal? Either that, or Rockhoof could try pedalling a local copy of Pinkies ROFLcopter, but probably get similar flight to teh origional JEtpack etc, of a few seconds?
The Paladin, for honor is loking for a dual, and a country worth of beleif says the sword dissapeared, but Rodrigo is already tired, injured, and alone. Not much point getting lethally crippled in gaining the sword at this point in time, only to die and leave it sitting at this point in space?

Because springs of deadly poison are sooo common across mountain ranges. I heard they had to put up signs so hikers don't accidentally drink sulphuric acid.

That just brings back to my initial reasoning: airships just demand too many resources to be feasible, which is why I had them have a go at making sky carriages. On a material level, the carriage itself shouldn't too complicated to make, and on an arcane level, they're just bottlenecked by having to make spells stick. Way I see it, soon as they solve that, that's most of their transportation problems solved in one go, so long that Meadowbrook and Starswirl can churn out enchants and potions for temporary wings.
To be fair, it's not like either party got out of the battle unscathed. Los Lobos did lose a large amount of troops too, along with technicals, heavy weapons, and whatever gear, armor and small arms the assailants carried.
