With sphinxes, it's not what they HAVE, it's what they KNOW. As far as I know, sphinxes have phenomenal memories for lore and 'trivia'. They can piece together answers from the scantiest of information. Dragons like things, sphinxes like information.
Can you picture a sphinx with an Internet connection?
Dragon built up too much personal items to trigger hoard reaction, or being engineer, doesnt realise the ship is part of their hoard and so its much bigger than estimated?
Pity the Puckwuddgies cant be collaborated with. If their places have only minor defenses, means they are usually left alone by the larger monsters through mutual disagreements? Will be intresting to see just whats coming through next, and if the 50 Cal is going to have to use AP/HEAT.
Intresting how the most capable Paladin eventually could only be taken down by one of the equally mythical foes of the time, the unicorn. Personally as well. Still no idea who the green thing is given how the next quest waypoint was given.
The problem with doing AC using an aquifer, isnt drying the air off coming off it. Something I found out decades ago while on an AC university course. The water content of comfortable 21 celcius 50% relative humidity atmosphere, is the same water content as 100 % humidity, at 12 Celcius. Any colder air holds less water vapur,a nd so when warmed up, ends up dryer. So needs to be humidified using complexity. So if you want simplest AC, you need a 12 C water bath, spray, and a dry heater. Another trick, not sure of the depth, but a 100 Watt alternator I can understand, but paddles are 25% efficincy, you need breastshot wheel and gearing for 75% or Pelton for 90% properly made. With warm air up top and cold aquifer, thermal air engines can be made relatively simply. Warm water up top and cold water down below is even better, and self seperating. So far though, if it wasnt for the refinery, that Hacienda would be a far more easily secured center and more resources available for clearing out enemies?

At the same time, there's quality of information to consider. If the sphinx has internet, everyone else likely does too.

That would be true, but the sphinx would rapidly be able to find the most obscure lore that other researchers would not notice.

So we sort of agree not all kinds of lore actually build up a sphinx's immaterial treasure. Though it would be funny to see one grow to be as big as a van just because he memorized the entirety of 40K lore, the Silmarillion, or any downright beastly lore-heavy work like that.
Which strikes the question: what is viable as powerful lore? Having an Internet (or whatev' equivalent comes next, not like sat-based networks offer the best bandwidth) is one thing, but if most of what's there won't help a sphinx accrue worthwhile lore then it's rubbish for them.
Does it have to be related to magic? Or must it be obscure by nature, like well-kept secrets?
And does it have to be memorized in the form of enigmas?

Eh, my reasoning there was that Skinner is no Fluttershy, and as seen in the series they were rather aggressive. Territorial actually, but if it takes the Element of Kindness intervening to stop them from attacking another group of Element Bearers...
Then a bunch of ex-humans hold no chance of settling things down peacefully.
Plus... you've got to look at it from Captain Skinner's viewpoint: it's... actually less than a week since he was taken prisoner in Dominica. Not only is that fresh in his memory, but anyone would be considerably more jaded after an incident like that.
Maybe I'm not the best when talking about that. When I wrote that passage, I was mostly thinking about phenomenons of ship sweat and cargo sweat, hence my worries about drying the air. Given it's a tropical environment, I was afraid the air would have a high dew point and that cooling it without drying might spread condensation, and thus risk causing damage in the long run.
But I'm no AC expert, obviously.
As for the water tanks and alternator... it's for emergency power. Obviously. No sense overcomplicating your power supply when you've got an active refinery nearby to run your generators off any oil distillate you feel like this week. The water tanks not only provide water for daily consumption (and farming) which is pumped up from the aquifer, but the reasoning is still simple: it's all potential energy ready to be converted back. They just pumped it up there with generators they have when things are working fine.
As you said, efficiency really depends on what it runs through when the water is let back down, but it should be enough to run the 'essentials' in a siege when fuel runs low.

If its tropical humid air being cooled by aquifer water, its going to be an awful lot of fog filled cavern, or contact volume. It can look spectacular, the fog filling in the valleys leaving only teh hills poking up like islands in teh sea, or beneath the glass floor, a roiling cloud that avian magic based forms would likely find high quality, depending? that said, lots of fog means lots of fog, condensation, the dampings and the drippings and the darkness and coolness greatly restricting what can grow, but minerals might be more soluble, crystalising depending on magic, enviroment effects?

Doing a bit more research, the greek version seems the outlier; usually they're emplaced to guard treasures or wisdom. I'd say the important qualification is both "secrets" and "powerful or dangerous" knowledge. Knowing dread and obscure magic probably counts, but also the hidden vices of kings, the locations of great treasures, the lost accounts of historians of ages past that cast a turning of the ages in a different light. Sphinxes and dragons might well end up as the most direct lorekeepers of this world, though of course actually extracting said lore is the question.
As for the riddles, secrets obviously become less secret the more people know them. It's a schema of "prove you are smart enough to have something worthwhile to trade." (I could also see artificial secrecy as a strategy, e.g. murdering or memory wiping everyone else who knows something.)
imagine Returning and having hit squads sent after you because you're devaluing a sphinx's secrets by also remembering what the Spice Girls want, what they really really want.
I would love to see if Sealand somehow survive the end of the world and if you could can you open relationships with them if any of the guys don't know what it is look it up it's an actual Nation.
wow a amazing chapter ,, i love how every thing is just playing off of ever thing.
the fight with Roland is awesome and we have a new cutie mark.

Well you did do it justice also well sadly nothing will replace the old sub. and the depiction of the area satisfies me. As a local ofc I would want to slaps sense into the characters like but I think that's common when you have detailed information about any region or setting.
But yeah the fabric shop originally was in Blankenberge only move to Zeebrugge in 2017. Still makes me wanna hit some characters with a shoe since it's a commonly known shop. But that because I'm a local. :P
