Im worried that a bunch of lifeforms in the Death Cloud might not be the type of survivors theyre looking for.
Celyn hopes that the change in realms doesnt mean that even though theres no fertile, she could still end up a chicken?
No small airfield off the side that they could get light aircraft navigation charts etc? Or a Flight Club off the side of the main airport, or is this one of the times where noone talks about Flight Club?
Why the horseshoes? Cos hes a dead ringer for my brother.
Coal Slurry powered steam driven prop propulsion?
Grab the Sea Duck manual boys, we are going to Superflight these beauties. 120 knots is as fast as any dirigible claimed to go, but they didnt know about Boundary Layer flow control and HOTOL.
Hmmm... I like the idea about the lift gases. I came up with something similar for a game book I was writing 30+ years ago (never published because the initial collaborators for the series broke up after book 2, and I was writing book 3), but without the electrics. Not bad at all!
Next thing I have to do is find out where Narvik is. Why could they not have raided the computers at the international airport for charts?
Can't wait for next week!
Look in at my new series, "Equestrian City- the Back Roads" updating Mondays (though I will be posting a few chapters because I moving next week)

Condoms buddy, condoms.
Simple system compared to the lift gases. Coal slurry is simply used in a central burner amidships which produces the steam that's piped to the props on either side. Add to that an economizer to leech a bit of waste heat off so they have warm water to feed the gasbags and you got the gist of the system.
With how wide Sirocco is, having the props on the sides adds just a little bit of maneuvering capability is the pilot feels comfortable different thrust to turn.
Now steam propulsion on an airship, not what I'd call ideal. The need for water in the steam circuit severely impacts operational range -even more so considering I gave it the design flow of only having one tank both for propulsion and domestic water-. Plus: water is heavy, and airships already suffer from limited payloads.
[Visible Confusion] Was that a reference? 'cause I didn't understand that reference.

68°25'2N ; 17°33'6E. I recall Tirpitz hid in that fjord for a significant part of WW2.
And between you and me? It's not so much that they couldn't get the charts. Blame the author for that, I know a grand total of zilch on aviation charts. Much easier (for me!) to chart all the waypoints from Copenhagen to Norway as if it was a ship doing the voyage, that I got the tools for. VFR charts... I know it's a thing but I've just never been briefed on their proper use.
Might give a shot to that new story of yours. No promises though, never been much of a fan for EqG stuff. The characters not being human is what drew me here in the first place with the species that are actually more than reskinned humans (unlike elves and dwarves, ugh...), removing that from the equation with EqG is just counterintuitive for me, no offense to your writing.
What about Horse Play though? That seemed like it could have made a nice enough space opera.

I will finish Horse Play within a month or so. Two problems in the way- 1) working with the EqC people to turn out a quality product and 2) I'm moving next week into a new house (new to me, that is) and I'm focusing on that.
You do quality work, MM, and I want to do the same.
Took me long enough to reach this point. Forty chapters done and another forty to go. Let's see how much I take to finally catch up.
The Scirocco is certainly interesting, but I don't think you mentioned any crew manning it. Is it then more like a one-
manparrot aircraft, like an helicopter of sorts? Then again, I'm no expert, so I might just have misread. And of course, Alejandro is the best character ever, but we knew that already.

You haven't misread, Elaena is the only one crewing the ship most of the time. It's... actually not that big of an airship. Balloons included? 60 by 30 meters as I've written it in my notes. Way I 'designed' it, it's meant to be the kind of vessel small enough to only ever need one person to run it. Sure it helps to have an extra engineer to fire up the boilers and extra hands to have a watch cycle... but it's not necessary. And if it's not necessary then why waste money paying extra crew?
Glad you like Alejandro. I'm always on the fence about my characters feeling like cardboard cutouts.
On another note this reminds me I spotted you updating you story in my tracking folder. Will get to it soon as I can.
