I like the idea of the Mane 6 being more powerful than they realize, like Rarity plowing an opponent into the ground or AJ obliterating rocks a with ease after Maud taught her the basics of rock breaking. I also like the idea that the mane 6 just radiate something that makes it hard for the PHL to connect them to their corrupt counterparts, some kind of feeling of being the proper state they should be in. It also helps accent the difference between Celestia and the Solar Tyrant
Blue spy going rogue. . . nah don't believe it
7038226 If I remember correctly a couple of chapters back Weaver did something to her.
7038296 Right you are!
...pre-emptive apology for the delay, sorry.
Wait... They're not planning on killing Trixie off, are they!?
7038296 Not really been a while since I've read this

Dear Crow T R0bot:
You asked, “Also, how the heck is The Doctor still himself mentally when you established that a permanent transformation requires warping the transformee's soul along with their body?”
I hope that this explains how Dr. Who became Doctor Whooves.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regeneration_(Doctor_Who)
Regeneration (Doctor Who) copied From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“In the long running British science fiction television series Doctor Who, regeneration is a biological ability exhibited by the Time Lords, a race of fictional humanoids originating on the planet Gallifrey. This process allows a Time Lord who is old, wounded or otherwise dying to undergo a transformation into a new physical form and a somewhat different personality. The process has been used eleven times throughout the history of the franchise as a device for introducing a new actor for the role of its main character, the Doctor. The current incarnation of the Doctor is played by Peter Capaldi, following the regeneration of the Eleventh Doctor (portrayed by Matt Smith) during the 2013 Christmas special "The Time of the Doctor". Other Time Lords and similar characters have also regenerated, for various reasons, sometimes with change of actors.”
Thus, it is possible that when Dr. Who needed to renew his old human body, that he choose to be regenerated in a new pony body. This type of regeneration is not the same type of transformation as the Tyrant’s potion.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_Lord
Also, Dr. Who & Doctor Whooves is a Time Lords are a fictional, ancient extraterrestrial people that have abilities far beyond that of a normal human.
How the human Dr. Who knew that he needed his future incarnation to become Doctor Whooves and his first reaction that he needed to become a pony could be addressed in a future chapter.
7038660
I'll add to this explanation:
The Eighth Doctor claims that he can become "a different species" when he regenerates in the 1996 TV movie, and the Time Lady Romana, one of the Doctor's own people, was shown to regenerate, albeit briefly, into a blue humanoid form. Furthermore, the Ninth Doctor moored the possibility of regenerating into a form with "two heads, or no head".
With that in mind, regeneration into a non-humanoid form (a pony, for example) is quite possible. I believe (someone correct me if I'm mistaken) that the backstory for this version of Doctor Whooves is that he regenerated into a pony body some time ago.
7039018 yes... long while ago... i need to talk to you about that to clean up that little tidbit
Wow
Another well done chapter, I had fun helping with these two chapters. NIce job you guys, nice job.
Also, I'm having some slight GDoc troubles, so apologies fo me not being on there as of this moment.
Two chapters in one day! Oh you guys really do know how to spoil us!
The "Converge" arc may be over, but the overarching "Blue Spy has gone kill happy" arc still rages on.
7041506 ...
wow. Well okay, let me clear this up before Fluffy gets his hands on you.
Since this came from Kraber, and it is, its not german, its South African slang for Drunk. Anything that has to deal with Kraber and words he uses.... its South African terms...
7041616
...doesn't it say that he's ex-Bundeswehr at some point? I'm pretty South Africa doesn't have that. Oh well, maybe I mixed some characters up. With the way the story keeps jumping back and forth, I've been having some difficulties keeping them straight.
7041968 believe me... if Kraber is involved, you're not alone. Talk to Doctor Fluffy for clarification.
7041968 I believe that, at this point, Kraber is a member of the Bundeswehr, technically.
The tropes page should help you with that - it groups characters together by their allegiance/service branch.
7043215 That's the beauty of Spectrum, really. It could be real tragic, real awesome, or absolutely ridiculous.
Sometimes, all of them.
7043844
I suppose I can't deny that. I'll give the story that much respect and say it straight: it was recommended to me with glowing praise and after reading as far as I did, which says something all by itself, I still honestly can't decide if I think this story is really good or really bad. Where it's good, it's honestly really good, but where it's bad... It also has just so many glaring weaknesses. The most focus is put on the characters I enjoy reading about the least. Other plotlines that I want to know more about practically get dropped. There are narrative gaps all over the place - a reliance on side-stories that I just don't want to read, but that introduce things the story just assumes I would know about and then never explains again. I actually had to google "totem-proles" just to even figure out what that's supposed to mean. I'm still not entirely sure what they're for.
There's honestly a good story in this that is clearly written with a lot of love and attention to detail. It's honestly engaging and even gripping in places, but at the same time, its weaknesses make it hard to like at times.
7043960 If you'd like, send me up a PM about every issue you've mentioned here - It's been a long concern for some of us on the team that the story often relies on too many side stories, and I sincerely wish to pinpoint the exact problems with external help. A discussion on the issues would be extremely refreshing and I would be eternally grateful
7043969
Thanks for the offer. I'll see if I can find the time to get around to that. Most of it has been sprinkled all over the story and I don't think I'd remember everything that stuck out to me, so I'd probably have to reread some sections first. On the whole, though, I can honestly say that the reliance on side stories and the way it makes the story feel almost disjointed at times has been my biggest issue with it so far. I'll keep commenting on that if any further examples come up.
7043981 Alright! Thanks for bringing the matter to our attention; with the time offered by the hiatus we should be able to reform the storyline into something far more cohesive.
Cheers
"Unbelievable" is a good way to put it. Did that guy just dismantle the closest thing he had to a proper weapon over a taunt? That's disappointingly stupid.
It occurred to me that in the cannon My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series that diversity is shown as strength and homogeny is shown as weakness. For example, “The Cutie Map” episodes are the closest the series has come to depicting newfoals. And, I’m happy that aspect of the show is depicted in Spectrum stories.
7044355
That guy is a martial artist, and beneath a stoic, professional demeanaour, he's got an honour fixation, which could be rightfully considered a character flaw, yet is also why he was designated to lead the rescue squad on a non-lethal raid.
Besides, Jaka isn't acting completely in the blind here, since he's got sniper support, all other targets are confirmed to be captured or incapacitated, so that capturing Locksmith, the last thug left standing, practically counts as formality at this stage.
It was oh-so-satisfying to build up the goon's humiliation right until the moment Minus stuffs him into a crate.
7043960
Sledge115 wrote, "I actually had to google "totem-proles" just to even figure out what that's supposed to mean. I'm still not entirely sure what they're for."
The totem-proles are explained in the “Lost in Dispatches II” chapter from the “Last Train From Oblivion” story. These are also an obvious reference to George Orwell's 1984 that has Telescreens to both transmit information and to spy on the population. Thus, totem-proles are a reference that should be clear to anyone who has graduated from high school.

7044444
I suppose. It's just, like I said, disappointing. One thing I do like about this story is that it had been very good about making people behave realistically emotional up to that point. There were times when people acted without thinking and situations where they let their emotions get the better of them, but it was all done in a manner that I could've seen a real person doing. All in all they were actually professional in a military way. That particular scene, though, kind of broke with that. This was cartoonish dumbness. Not really the best decision to go with, in my opinion.
7044480
First, this guy wants to take Locksmith alive. Rubber bullets fired at a distance close enough for melee combat can be lethal.
Second, this guy wants to beat Locksmith at his own game. This guy wants to show that he is the superior alpha male. Having a protagonist fight the same way as the Big Bad happens all the time in fiction and Spectrum stories are fiction.
Third, if that guy had shot Locksmith then we would not have gotten that awesome fight ending with Minus stuffing him into a crate. That is called the Rule of Cool: “The limit of the Willing Suspension of Disbelief for a given element is directly proportional to the element's awesomeness.”
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/RuleOfCool
“Stated another way, all but the most pedantic of viewers will forgive liberties with reality as long as the result is wicked sweet or awesome. This applies to the audience in general; there will naturally be a different threshold for each individual.”
7044480 It's a bit of a flaw I wanted to imply - that the good Sergeant is sometimes too prideful for his own good even if he doesn't show it too much.
7044561
It's still a stupid and possibly suicidal thing to do. This story has actually been pretty good about not going with "rule of cool" and overwrought action scenes so far, excepting that big fight with Celestia in Boston, which is actually something I very much like about it. I admit, though, it's mostly a matter of personal taste. I won't argue about it.
7044587
I suppose I can understand it, but I think it might have helped if he had shown it a bit more beforehand. Part of the problem I had with it was that it came so out of nowhere, because the main story doesn't show a lot about him before that. He seemed reasonably levelheaded based just on that. Is he another character who gets a lot of his characterization from the side stories? I suppose that would make a difference.
7044609 Thanks for pointing that - I believe I overlooked it, and rushed into things.
This scene was meant to be the first to showcase that very flaw, as he's a recurring character.
No, he's not a side story character. Him, Harwood, and Ana are all planned to spend most of their time strictly in the main story.
It's not the last we'll see of them - and I'll make sure their characterization stays consistent.
Thanks for the advice
7044355
I find that rather silly too when I helping out in editing. If I were him I would have just shot (with non lethal buells) him and be done with it.
To be honest this entire thing is really dragging on.
7044480 Yeah... i been somewhat anal about that aspect of the story the most.
I have tripped time to time, but i always focus on the character themselves and possible reactions to situations.
Whenever i write something down, or someone else does, i try to gauge possible reactions on what characteristics i notice about said OCs. Most of the time i don't really need to, but a few times i had to point out mistakes, or had one given to me in return if i guessed wrong or simply off. Its something i am really proud, and that someone noticed
7045217 thats nice
7044624
This is how I would have captured Locksmith: First, I’d used police grade pepper spray on Locksmith’s eyes. Second, I’d use a stun baton, a stun gun, or a taser to stop Locksmith from escaping me for a few seconds. Third, I’d use nylon single loop riot cuffs to tie Locksmith’s ankles up like a rodeo calf and then used rope to tie his wings to his body. The chance that I could kill Locksmith by accident is zero!
Here’s a question about the national armies of Equus. If the standing armies of Equus are going to fight on the human world; do you think it would make sense for the nations of Equus to be training inactive reserves, inexperienced young recruits, and retired soldiers to both defend their home nations during this war and be a reserve pool to replace casualties taken by Equus’s armies on the human world?
For the human armies, it would make sense that experienced veterans, from the infantry to pilots that have spent two or more tours of duty fighting the Tyrant’s armies, would be sent to training camps to become instructors. It would be kind of cool for someone more familiar with basic training to write about a PHL human and pony that become instructors at a new or reactivated training camp.
7047804 Ahem that's, uh, exactly what Ana, Harwood, and Jaka are doing in Equus; train a unit of Equus soldiers.
7048322
You misunderstand me. I was asking that when the standing armies of Equus, the ones being trained by the human volunteers now in the New, New York training grounds, the first wave of training, depart to fight on the human world; that the training grounds would remain open to so that the nations of Equus could then train inactive reserves, inexperienced young recruits, and retired soldiers to defend their home nations during this war from internal threats.
As the nations of Equus seldom fight each other, they must have internal treats or else their armies would not exist in the first place. In the cannon series, Apple Bloom had a dangerous encounter with a chimera in the “Somepony to Watch Over Me” episode. Thus, it appears that not all of the monsters of Equus live in the Everfree Forest. The threats that are kept in check by the standing armies of Equus would remain after their standing armies have departed for the human world.
In addition, any additional waves of training of new recruits would become a reserve pool to replace casualties taken by Equus’s armies on the human world and the TCB version of Equus.
7039018 And yet, he still can't figure out how to be a ginger...
7041616
7041506
mine is an evil laugh
...but yeah, Red summed it up pretty well. Kraber was raised in South Africa till he was about thirteen, then the family moved to Germany, where other parts of his family lived. Officially, he's a German citizen, much as that means now that Germany's atomized in spectrum.
Edit: plus, he pisses Marcus off, so he ended up in the Bundeswehr.
7053894
Believe me, we fan-film types have that particular omission well in hand…
7061225 Mostly? Dramatic effect. I only wrote that in to show how very confused Megan would've been about all this, and how she'd probably be full of inner turmoil.
7061225
7061273
Plus, is it really worth that much effort to confirm something they already know?

Thank you, ObeyBunny. I’ve relearned a couple of interesting grammar rules from your post.
Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact (MRSI) or how to give a Royal Guard a very bad day!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artillery#MRSI
This is a modern version of the earlier "time on target" concept in which fire from different weapons was timed to arrive on target at the same time. It is possible for artillery to fire several shells per gun at a target and have all of them arrive simultaneously, which is called MRSI (Multiple Rounds Simultaneous Impact). This is because there is more than one trajectory for the rounds to fly to any given target: typically one is below 45 degrees from horizontal and the other is above it, and by using different size propelling charges with each shell, it is possible to create multiple trajectories. Because the higher trajectories cause the shells to arc higher into the air, they take longer to reach the target and so if the shells are fired on these trajectories for the first volleys (starting with the shell with the most propellant and working down) and then after the correct pause more volleys are fired on the lower trajectories, the shells will all arrive at the same time. This is useful because many more shells can land on the target with no warning. With traditional volleys along the same trajectory, anybody at the target area may have time (however long it takes to reload and re-fire the guns) to take cover between volleys. However, guns capable of burst fire can deliver several rounds in 10 seconds if they use the same firing data for each, and if guns in more than one location are firing on one target they can use Time on Target procedures so that all their shells arrive at the same time and target.
How regular are updates for this?
7081644
they seem to update every few months or so, and when they do they usually release several chapters over the course of a few weeks. I attribute this to being to the fact that the authors and the editors of this fic live throughout North America and Europe and probably have to really plan in order to get the next chapter out.
