On behalf of all the Spectrum authors, I'm honored to announce that we're finally, finally moving out of our long schedule slip.
Really - this chapter went through so many authors and edits that it had to be split up into three parts. Rest assured - the other parts are 90-95% complete, and the concluding chapter of the Hostage Crisis is well on its way!
Without further ado, lo and behold the raid on the brickyard.
You may now cheer.

Happy reading,

Here, here! Let's get drunk! But seriously, this did take quite a while indeed to make.
I really love the Applejack parts of this chapter.
My favorite line below.
Spoiler
Right. But ya don’t have to risk yer life for hew-manity. Don’t get me wrong, I fully support the war to rescue the hew-mans from that twisted mockery of our good and merciful Celestia! But there are plenty of other ponies willin’ to fight for their folk! Heck, if Ah was younger, Ah myself would join the fight to save those poor fellers!”
Thanks for the chapter sir!
6979062 This pleases fluffy.
6979093 I'm just happy I made sure Granny Smith wasn't doing a guilt-trip. Granny Smith has always struck me as the reasonable grandmother, the one that listens to all her family, especially her grandfoals. ...Also, Granny Smith sounds almost exactly like my late grandmother. It's weird.
6979268
I say you did pretty good with Granny Smith, so bravo.
*looks up*
That Proof-reader tab sure is lonely *drinks Whiskey alone* HAHAHA! I'm almost 21, I can drink! :D
Pfft, this was fun to proof, hope the peeps of FIM enjoy it, also nice job writing this lot you guys, legit! One hell of a read. You all know how to make Humanity badass
6979062 And there was much rejoicing.
I wonder if the HLF will see some of the shit they've done to Earth wasn't really helping the war and they join forces with the PHL. Then Marcus or Lyra or whoever unites them with Kimballs Speech from Red vs Blue. Cause that speech is pretty good.
Other than that, it was a nice break to reread the past chapters. The wait was definitely worth it!
I think you should make a blog post to alert others this has been updated. I bet quite a few missed the update.
That conversation between Rarity and Minus about Zecora reminds me of why Bridle Gossip Is one of my least favorite episodes. Ponyville either comes off as harboring horrible Jim Crow racists, or come off as a pack of idiots who scarcely know that there is a world outside of Equestrian.
I guess you're going the "pack of idiots" route...
Finally got caught up and I gotta say, someone really need to fix that freaking issue of mind manipulation. Hopefully, someone will figure out a way to defeat it altogether, because this situation is bad enough as it is. On another note, all the training is really doing the girls good...very, very good. To read how Fluttershy, of all ponies, to own the daylight crap out of the bad guys like that without losing who she is was pure gold. And finally, speaking of the situation being bad...yep, things is definitely bad and getting worse.
This is continuing to rock, you guys, so keep it up~!
C&Cs will be PM.
6983553 Not so much "idiots" inasmuch just really sheltered. But yes, I do agree on Bridle Gossip being a bottom-tier episode.
This feels like a filler arc.
Like, I'm reading along, and the only thing I can think of, is those dumb Naruto filler episodes. Here's this massive problem, but not as big as the other massive problem we'll have to deal with, but we've gotta deal with this problem in order to have our affairs in order to deal with the even bigger massive problem.
Like, once the whole story is done, I feel like I could gather the chapters which make up this arc, completely skip them, and not miss anything crucial to the plot, unless you're planning to kill a major character, like Blue Spy or something.

6983937
In fairness, you can't get that much more inherently sheltered than being characters in a little girls' animated series where the nature of the format means everything always works out happily in the end. The least to be said about this story is that there's been a profound shift in their reality.
As a matter of fact, if I've used both Pina in The Other Side of the Mirror, and now Weaver in this chapter as mouthpieces for what I consider the one-sidedness of the humanity exhibition, it's because I'm concerned that after the war, a logical consequence to this previously necessary piece of sympathy-baiting would be to turn Prime!Equestria's relationship with mankind toxic once they find out the unpleasant truths that were hidden from them. Unless the PHL have the integrity to come clean about how Ambassador Lyra still loved the human people despite knowing of the skeletons in our closets, I foresee it as a real problem in future.
6984607
Have no worry on that score, there is much being set up here for the final round, the foremost of which is a first glimpse into how our heroines the Element Bearers acquit themselves in the field.
Personally, I had a lot of fun writing Rarity in these last few chapters, and for that, I'd also, belatedly, like to express my gladness at seeing the first part out of three published.
6984839
That is true about the humanity exhibition. But honestly, they sort of needed to lie a little to help get much help as possible.
Plus quite few ponies would see how far the TCB Ponies had fallen and how they could themselves if they allowed to themselves to fall like the TCB Ponies. Quite few would see their counterparts no different than the humans, with the attempted xenocide of humanity.
Ponies could see what happened as no different than what happened to the native americans, but this time all of humanity is lose their land from ponies and not get even any hope of any survivors what's so ever.
So I enjoyed the chapter, there is one gripe tho. Each of these updates are long in length, full of information, and have a significant amount of downtime between each update. As such its hard to remember the context of what I'm reading. Is it possible to put a short summary of the context we find the characters in? Like a "last time on dragonball" segment?
6986948 Thanks for the suggestion there - we'll put it into consideration should we ever stumble in another hiatus.
6984839 It'd be hard for them to talk when Ponies managed to top every single human atrocity, maybe even combined, in a matter of 4 years.
What, do you think they aren't gonna get beat over the head with that potential of theirs if they do get bitter?
By the way, do you think that Punt guns would be effective weapons against naked newfoals?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punt_gun
Those extremely large shotguns would sure increase the “wow factor” in World War C stories.
6988408
Resorting to the argument that the other guy has done worse than you have does little to justify, and nothing to change, the nature of your own crimes. I'd go so far as to say it smacks of desperation.
When I joined Team Spectrum, I told myself that while I'm ultimately on the side of humanity in this conflict, I'd try to remain as intellectually honest as I could about it.
6988509
Never said it was a good argument. Just saying it's an argument that will be used, especially by Ponies like Chalcedony. You see some of the dumb shit done in the name of White Guilt, like calling ISIS freedom fighters? Pony Guilt is going to be that on steroids. Especially considering the fact that True!Equestria is going to come out of this an incredibly influential Superpower in the same vein as America post-WW2 because of how little damage they'll receive compared to Earth and TCB!Equestria, so accusations of Pony Privilege will abound.
Self-hatred is going to be just as loud as whatever voice of betrayal there may be once they get full disclosure on human history, if not louder.
6990000
Chalcedony is the epitome of Equestrians who think their kind has crossed the line into irredeemability. Whether that can be called objectively true or not, her attitude is one which enables the minimisation of mankind's misdeeds compared to the Imperials'.
As to the extent of self-hatred which their brainwashed counterparts' actions will induce amongst the Prime!Equestrians, if the problem hasn't arisen much yet following the humanity exhibition, it likely won't grow exponentially any time soon.
But no side should close their eyes to how the Empire's done nothing a human is incapable of.
6990040
And humanity has done noting a Pony can't top would be the counter, but I get your point.
But still, I think you're underestimating the psychological impact that the specter of the Empire is (or at least should...) have over Ponies. Not saying there won't be some Equestrian Right Wing toxicity, but the levels of Toxicity is going to be a lot more mitigated versus say, the likely cross-aisle toxicity that Stardust!Equestria will likely feel towards Earth (and XCOM in particular) once full disclosure is achieved.
If this series wants to be at all realistic, then Pony Guilt will be competing with the sense of betrayal, but both will exist unless the PHL does something quick.
6990040
I should also note that the heavy use of mind control in TCB!Equestria really annoys me, as it seems to exist solely to give the TCB!Ponies an out. You guys really should reign that in and give us some more legit extremists like Weaver.
6990075
Given how thoroughly manhandled the Tyrant's Clone was during her debut chapter before the readers even knew she was a clone, not to mention the considerable amount of punishment inflicted upon the Imperials in both this story and the side-stories, I'd contest that assertion and say it has more to do with being one of the few semi-plausible ways in which the bright, optimistic world of Friendship is Magic could turn into a dark, fascistic dystopia within a short timeframe.
On the other hand, an invitation to write more Weaver gladdens me.
Seriously Weaver? bringing up the Holocaust as justification for what your doing, when you personally were responsible for guiding the genocide of a entire race of yultide pacifists? Ye Gads the hypocrisy.
7087220
Who said this was being used as justification? If you read closely, you'll notice Weaver actually tells Applejack she's probably heard of the Empire's actions compared to the Holocaust - suggesting that the PHL, at least, were relatively open about certain humans doing very bad things in the past, and more importantly, Weaver has a degree of self-awareness.
However, what she then does is go on to explain how every country has committed morally questionable actions in their history, such as the United States' own atom-bombing of Japanese cities, or the continued racial mistreatment of African-Americans to this day.
But perhaps I was being too subtle, and should have thrown in the term "Manifest Destiny" somewhere.
Regardless, Weaver is the same as any die-hard believer. Even when conscious of what exactly she's done, the similarities she may share with other extremists in the world, she'll let you know the difference is that she happens to be right.
7087403 Sorry, perhaps it's just me but that came across too subtly to register, and taking in Weavers position that what is occuring on earth is a necessary for some sort of perceived "better world" - as well as being part of the machinery for it's implementation - it came across in a different way than perhaps you intended.
So rather than "We're all monsters here", it came across as "This is why I see it as necessary".
7087442
Herein are the seeds for the basic message Weaver seeks to impart upon all the Element Bearers;
Writing Joy to the Worlds together with TB3 was quite the enlightening experience for me. The character of Weaver had always been conceived of as a foil to the Tyrant and her lackeys, an Imperial sincere in their belief that they're helping mankind, yet what proved a major obstacle toward that goal was how to get around the levels of blatant Nazi-like hypocrisy which previous chapters had striven to stack against the Empire.
Most notably the straight-up, unambiguous slaughter of the reindeer, of whom, after all, the Tyrant wouldn't even have the excuse of claiming they were potential threats to Equestria, unlike the Changelings, dragons, minotaurs and humans.
In the end, it was just a matter of retelling the story of the Binding of Isaac, quoted by Weaver herself...
A bag of pure evil is one thing, but, one should never underestimate how mere dogma can warp the minds of good people.
Wow, that's one of the best summations of Humanity I've ever heard. Seriously, I could probably get a good number of analytical paragraphs out of unpacking that.
Ora?
