So Sunset doesn't experience sexual attraction, and it sounds like she doesn't find pleasure in the act of sex either. I suppose there is an intersection there, of sex being a largely mental exercise and lacking attraction kinda throws a blanket on the enjoyment of it.
It'll be interesting to see where they take things because of that. Does Sunset go through with it anyway, because it makes Rarity happy?

Unfortunately because I have the attention span of a gnat and having even one chapter story going is proving to be a lot for me focus wise, I'll probably be addressing the ramifications and implications of something like this in another one-shot if I ever decide to do a follow up. This was mostly just something I wrote out for a prompt I saw, even if it ended up longer than I expected.
I love this so much. I wasn't expecting the asexuality aspect at all, and I'm so glad for that, because it was a wonderful surprise. Everything with this feels so natural, from the light joking to the awkwardness of the conversation. If you ever do decide to do a one shot follow up, I think it would be worthwhile. I wouldn't say I particularly ship RariShimmer, but I certainly adore your RariShimmer.
Cute piece, and the kind of romance there ought to be more of in the world. Decades of media telling people that sex is normal and even expected makes those uninterested or repulsed by sex think there's something wrong with them. Darn media.
I've never thought of asexual sunset but I loved this!!!!!!
And it makes sense, too! (But I do definitely agree with ace twi)
Anywho, thumbs up from a fellow sunlight and rarishimmer shipper!
I liked this Although.... it seemed more teen than everyone, in my opinion
You know, I wasn't expecting this. Asexuality is something that needs to be more respected and this story is pure and so precious, oh Celestia Amazing work as always!
i did not like the conclusion of this story i did not want sex to be shown as i dont really enjoy sex scenes but it kinda makes it feel like there relationship has no real future

They're in high school. It mist likely doesn't have a future.
I thought it was a sweet story that dealt with asexuality pretty well.
Out of curiosity, did you have this in mind?

Alas, I did not. I hadn't properly given the story a title until I uploaded it, so I slapped in the first thing that came to mind that seemed to fit the content.

I don't understand how this ending would give you the idea that their relationship has no future. Seems more like Rarity's reaction indicates it does, if anything.
Romantic relationships don't have to involve sex. I should know, I'm rather like this version of Sunset and married to an asexual. :P

To be fair, sex *is* normal by any reasonable definition of the term. Aces are (as one would expect) a fairly small portion of the population. I would agree that it'd be nice to see a few good asexual characters out there, but it's unreasonable to rail against media portraying sexual relationships as normal and desired when, for the vast majority of the people, they are.
7318458 Fair point. I'm arguing more from the standpoint that we have decades' worth of media that puts a man in one lead role, a woman in the other, and then slaps in a poorly contrived love story solely to have an unnecessary subplot when there's no reason to. Too few films and shows, for a long time, depicted homosexuality, bisexuality, and asexuality in a positive light, and films like Brave and Frozen are lauded in part because Merida and Elsa don't show any romantic interest.
This was really adorable and well written.
This was fantastic. The asexuality bit really hit home. Thumbs up and fave from an ace!

Definitely far from the only example, but the one I like to go with is Jurassic World. Owen and Claire spend the entire movie practically at each other's throats before walking off together and are strongly implied to be beginning a relationship. And we're supposed to cheer for them as if it will be successful? Like rillegas, I don't really have any problem with relationship subplots -- I even tend to gravitate to the shipfics on this site, despite being ace (though grey-romantic) myself -- but Hollywood seems to have gotten to the point where they're not only expected but almost required, no matter how poorly they fit into the rest of the narrative. That's when it starts being a bit damaging: when the alternative is not just a minority, but is all but non-existant (to say nothing of when the only alternative representation is negative).
