This was rather realistically-sad. If they had been lovers in the past, they probably aren't any more -- and it's Twilight who would be more stuck on him, based on her behavior in the show. He's moved on.
Not that there would really be likely to be a happy outcome to such a past love.
Omg this is very realistic, as siblings you are confused with yourself and your bodies, i know. When you get older you start to understand and learn yourself who you are, so you move on and find what you truly love.
I applaud you for this, brings incest in it's true light or darkness in this case.

Wow. I mean, I came, but wow.
Meh. Twilight really doesn't feel like Twilight in the story and it suffers from the usual problem with shipping stories on this site and especially with incest stories: that they have absolutely no justification in canon and have to jump through a lot of hoops to even get the reader to the general premise. This one's especially egregious in that it doesn't even try to rewrite the history we know, but instead just asks you to accept it at the beginning and keeps running.
And before someone asks "Why are you picking on porn! Let us have our incest porn you nitpicker!" aside from the fact that being porn doesn't excuse shitty storytelling (even if its usual audience doesn't give a rat's ass about the story), this doesn't feel like it was intended to be a porn story. I think there's a genuine attempt here to tell a story with emotion between the characters, but since the only things we hear about their past are vague or even nonsensical (something about sex in a restaurant and maybe their parents were there or maybe not?), it's really difficult to care one way or the other and it just... falls flat.

6790829 While you make a sound argument about how the story has a weak back story, Understand first, that this story is most likely an AU as is the case with more than 90% of the stories on this site. And the show doesn't really reveal much in the way of back story for the characters, just enough to show a point that fits in the cannon timeline, but not enough that an analyst could accurately define the relationships between the ponies and Actions they would have taken off screen. Such as whether or not Twilight and Shining Armor had an incestuous past, or what laws and culture equestria has in relation to sexual relationships.
This story does suffer from a dearth of back story, but unlike a fill blown story, usually needing a large amount of world building before digging into the meat of things, this one has very little relative content, to even consider it a story in the first place. This is more a short story, designed to get a point a cross more than actually give a reader a legitimate plot to follow. If you wanted to read an actual story, you should stop reading one shots, and start following multi-chapter stories.

6807483 Well I thought I respond to you about the Equestrian culture and would say that there is a law against incest like in every Kingdom or empire that ever exists.
Now I would not be surprised if Shining and Twilight had done some incest in the past, but that was probably because they were confused with themselves and their bodies but when you get older you recognise who you're sibling is and you realise that this isn't right, but some don't want to accept it and move on like Twilight.
Plus there are lots of stories that need to add a AU tag. And now I must run my tragic incest fic won't write it's self
