Daedalus Aegle

Black Lives Matter. Good things are good, actually. I write about wizards and wizards' apprentices. 90% of prophecy is just pattern recognition.

I should not have to think of my husband's funeral in terms of logistics. But thanks to Aunt Celestia I now did, and I hated her for that.

This is one of the most poignant paragraphs I've read in a while. Well done.

Certainly some fascinating stuff here, from an explanation for Cadance's bizarre youth to hints of some vast, multigenerational plan involving a certain line of unicorns. I look forward to more.

This definitely looks interesting. The writing is very good too

Intriguing premise, will keep an eye on it.

Then, once the adrenaline had worn off and I'd chased away the fears that my beautiful little Twily had been hurt, I'd joined in the celebration for her incredible achievement. The glow of happiness on her face was so wonderful it even made up for the fact that it wasn't me who'd been responsible for it.

I'm confused by this part, is Cadance unhappy that she wasn't the one to make Twilight that happy or because she hadn't planned for that to happen?

Looks interesting. Definitely putting this on my tracking list.

Thanks guys, and do stick around: I think this story is going to blow minds.

By the way, Warding Glow is an excellent pony name, a congruent concept or idea, like Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and Rarity, intangible but descriptive, and not a literal object analogy like Shining Armor or a meaningless mashup of words.

Those are surprisingly rare in the fandom, heck, now even the show can seem to come up with them anymore, they just keep recycling twilight sparkle (admittedly hard to top).

Intriguing. I'll track for now.

Faved, simply because I want to know what the Hell is going on here...

Will this end with Princest? Or TwiDance?

This is going to be rather interesting.

So, Cadence has decided to breed her descendants in an attempt to recreate Warding Glow?

That's going to be an awkward conversation with Twilight...

...whoo boy. This is gonna be complicated. And awkward. :duck:

That's what I'm thinking. Kind of like what Evil Twilight did in the final chapter of You Can Fight Fate by Eakin: selectively bred generations in order to birth a perfect copy of herself as a filly... just so she could apologize before the end.

Whelp, that just changed Cadence foalsitting from princess to predator.

As I suspected. Cadance is trying to recross the Rubicon. Still, I had hoped that the incest would all be more... remote. :pinkiesick:

Well, on the up side it seems like there's another mare to get involved... so... it's not... y'know... taking her own son... at least after this one time... Just a long-term breeding program where she occasionally reaps off an occasional distant descendant for herself... Which isn't really that great of an up side to be honest...
7/10 on the creeper scale, 10/10 on the will continue reading scale ;D

Wow, Cadance. This is... so goddamn unhealthy. And a complete betrayal of Warding Glow.

Not because she slept or found love elsewhere, or even because of the incest, but because Cadance is trying to replace him. From the looks of it, she's been trying to breed another Warding Glow into House Sparkle--that isn't the same as finding love or lust to fill the emptiness in her heart, that's actually trying to make a second to take his place. And in the meantime until she manages that, she abates the pain of her loss with the less perfect results of the project.

Honestly, her succeeding would be the worst thing she could do.

Hm... Celestia is clever and thinks a long game. It looks like Shining Armor and Cadance didn't have any kids, the elder Sparkles don't have any on the way, so the future lies on Twilight... Twilight, who was only partially raised under Cadance's ideals. And who is immortal. Is she hoping that Twilight would shake things up?
It would be... interesting.... to see Cadance's response if Twilight decides that she doesn't want foals.

All I can think of when I read that...

Huh. Well, clearly something happened in the intervening years. After all, Celestia officiated Cadance's latest wedding.

Also, the origin of the relaxing breath. I love tidbits like that.

And I was wrong earlier. Cadance isn't trying to recreate Warding Glow. She's quite happy with his descendants. The problem, of course, is they're also her descendants. That sickness of the mind doesn't seem present in the modern day, but there are centuries between it and this chapter. Lovebutt's mental health may have been worse earlier...

Cadance, this is the greatest taboo of equine society you're flaunting!

I think the word you're looking for is "flouting."

And ever deeper do we sink into the rabbit hole. This is a really cool story. I'm still hoping for a Twidance finale. Immortal Twilight might be a fitting final piece to Cadence's thousand year incest binge

Hope not, that would be a cheap cop out for this story, doubt the author would go through all of this just for a silly ship like that specially cause Cadance already did her thing with Shining Armor for the current generation, and even she doesn't seem that deranged.

She liked Shining, she let Celestia have Twilight, hinting that Twilight would eventually go back to her preplanned purpose. Cadance apparently does not have children herself anymore to prevent inbreeding, however it might just be that Twilight is the last of the particular line she favors and she cannot just plug her back into her project now.

Cadance probably wanted Twilight to have a child with a stallion of her choosing at some point (Flash Sentry maybe), only Twilight is now immortal and Cadance can't just manipulate her and then do her own thing with Twilight's direct descendants, cause Twilight is always going to be there too.

The issue is how many children has she had. And could Blueblood be one of them. Truth be told, this isn't all that far fetched; our own past had nobles intermarrying each other. Given how many generations Cadance could be removed from the family line, there's really not any problems. Twilight is obviously descended from her, which was why Celestia wanted to teach her.

This story is bizzare, unsettling, and clearly the product of a diseased mind. I await more.

*whistles*
Yeah, this is something. It would be pretty awkward to have the pony equivalent of Aphrodite as your mother.

*Shipping intensifies*

I'm actually kind of hoping now that this all blows up in Cadence's face.

Well, that isn't at all disturbing. :twilightoops:

Besides, the family tree's probably branched out a ways by now. Still, Cadance seems focused on these particular descendants. I suppose the others didn't past muster somehow.

So... just what is Heartbutt's ultimate goal, here? What does she intend for the Sparkle line, if not a clone of Warding Glow? Will I be able to get a mahogany desk from the planet Malchior 7?

Find out all this and more on the next episode of DBZA The Marriage of Princess Cadance to House Sparkle!

Well...
Shining did say at the wedding that he got Cadence to marry him by telling her she'd be getting an awesome sister-in-law out of the deal as well. That is canon that he said it. It wouldn't be all that hard to convince Twilight that Shining would want them to support each other through their grief. And Cadence would then have plenty of time - as Twilight watched all her friends grow old and pass on around her - to gently nudge their sisterly relationship towards something else entirely. And if she waits until Twilight has come to terms with her immortality before explaining the whole thing, she might be more understanding.

...maybe she'll end up helping Twilight nurture her friends' bloodlines so she can relive the friendships with each successive generation...:pinkiecrazy:

....guess I said this'll end badly too soon. :trixieshiftright: Hoo boy...

Wonder if Celestia planned this.

... Yeah, do you want to end up with Chauchemar Eulogy? Because that's where this ends if you keep at this, Cadence...

This all kinds of disturbing. Run, Twilight!

Ladies and gentlemen, I just want to say how pleased I am to see you all following along, and that this chapter marks the beginning of the middle act, and that we will continue going deeper until the very end. Be warned and prepared.

5812076
I don't actually know what that is, and google only gives me hits in French :rainbowderp:

5814315 Cauchemar is (at least, google translate claims) French for Nightmare, and a Eulogy is a funeral speech.

Damn. I mean, I knew incest was coming, but not like this. Damn.

Things are starting to become clearer, and I'm looking forward to how it turns out.

Wait... I got confused for a second. The pony's name was Dawn Song at first, but then changes to Dawn Glow in the italicized section. Did I miss something?

5815763
Tsk, tsk, tsk. Get yo shit together, son.

Wait, is this before or after Shining's death? Because last chapter made it sound like Cadance was going after Twilight.

I'm really loving this love-by-generations thing
