This story is a side story to Memoirs of a Royal Guard and begins years in advance of it.
Sunny Day doesn't take much seriously. As long as she makes a little money, spends time with her friends, and ends her evening with a cute pony she tends to be happy. The universe, however, seems to have other ideas as Sunny pushes to graduate from the prestigious School for Gifted Unicorns, understand her powerful magic, and start her life as an adult pony.

Edit: My previous post was phrased too bitterly. The chapter cut a bit personally for me. Looking at it again...
She was a prisoner wasn't she? Her power was dangerous and she had no choice but to come to a school she didn't want to go to. Not because of something she did on purpose, but because of what she was.
She wasn't leaving out of a desire to go party, she was leaving because she wanted real freedom for once in her life... The opportunity was spoiled for her before she even had it.
That's possibly the most tragic thing I've seen in this series so far.
Well, this should be all kinds of fun. I always liked Sunny and I'm sure I'll enjoy her screwing up and fumbling her way into the guard, especially because I am getting the distinct impression that she is going to get roped into a surprise one-on-one with Celestia in the near future.
Another 'My Little Lesbian Horse' genere story. Ah, yes - I know this one. Give it a year and all of Quill and Blade will stand on it...

6800986 My intent was not for this to be tragic but I can see that view of it. No pony is forced to go to the SGUs though. It is just heavily suggested in they're powerful enough. Sunny's mom thought it was best so she went. Now Sunny is ready to move on and become an adult instead of a perpetual child.

I know it's nitpicky, but as a chronic complainer a part of me is glad to finally have something to nitpick from the quill/blade-verse.
On the flip side, it has occurred to me that this is my only nitpick out of all your stories, so props to you guys

6808584 Going to chime in since it's my character that caused the nitpick... Here's the best example I can think of!
There is a bar we go to. A lot of people would go there for beer and would think of it as a great bar that serves great beer.
We go there because it's a nerdy hangout with Doctor Who posters on the wall and a sign threatening that unattended children will be served to the Goblin King, and we play board games with our gaming group. To us, it's our game night bar. When I think of it I think of it as our gaming hangout more than a bar hangout.
Depending on who you ask you'll get a different story of what kind of bar it is!
Nightingale goes to the Mare Contraire because she likes the company of mares, it's not a rowdy bar, and it's easier for her to turn down a mare's advances than a stallion's, so she can relax. For her it's not a fillyfooler bar. Velvet and Sunny have a different impression! Nightingale isn't necessarily wrong, but she isn't necessarily right, either.

It's a legitimate question because there seems to be conflicting information! Anzel and I like to write "conflicting perspectives" because that's how life is. Folks see the same thing different ways all the time. Plus, that means that readers can believe whichever story they prefer, because none of the characters are wrong, just biased.
So it's up to you to decide!

I'm concerned is Dolly robbing Sunny. I know taxes and all but she is paying in coins and there does not seem to be a record of the payment. At least one that is traceable by a banking or tax establishment. Also only 10% taxes. I'm concerned or is Dolly lying about where those hundred bits are going.
I'm going to have to agree with Sunny on this one and say that she probably has to take sex ed out of pure spite. Another amazing and hilarious chapter. It's really interesting to see how Sunny was before she became the Lieutenant we know from Memoirs and Secrets.
