It is indeed a bit of a stretch. I'd like to imagine them as the less common term (or idea, as it were) semi-anthro.
Think original pony but on two legs, perhaps with a bit more humanoid characteristics thrown in.
I like my ponies with hooves but apparently, at least in this instance, I also like them in human clothing...

I like hooves too, but I also like corect anatomy. Walking on 2 legs for ponies should be quite a hard task without balancing on something or relying on wings for stabilization. This being said, it is your story and you are free to do what you want =P

I'm impressed by the flow of words in your story. Poetic at points. And I'm also wondering what Twilight will do with those research notes of hers. Not to mention what she'll do when she realizes the resident human is capable of mating with a pony. They might not be able to have kids together, but that might just make him more desirable in the long run.

Mammaries located on the chest like in that picture are most certainly purposely human anatomy. Though it is shared with primates... and nothing else.(Scratch that. Double checked my next point and it seems elephants and whales also have their mammaries on their chests.) The protruding and prominent nature of human mammaries is strictly human only.
Oh, and it is only obliquely related but: I've seen people complain in comments on other stories when a pony comments on or questions a human male having nipples, usually commenting on how male animals have nipples also and it should be normal for the ponies. Equine males do not in fact have nipples.

This? It doesn't fly. That dog don't hunt. Your disclaimer is invalid. *Insert fourth expression of invalidity here* Your reader is going to be picturing the characters from page one. You can't just change the anatomy of the characters in the middle of the story... well, you can... if your goal is to suck. Either they are bipedal ponies without human anatomy, or they have titties... one or the other. An author uses words to convey images, if you haven't decided what shit looks like how do you expect us to see the images you can't.
It's not Anthro period if they're just walking on their hind legs.
