It's time for the Grand Galloping Gala, and Canterlot's most eligible bachelor is planning a scheme that will land him on easy street for life: Romancing one of Equestria's greatest heroines, the Elements of Harmony.

There is no way this could possibly go wrong.

Contains personal headcanon regarding Canterlot's noble caste (or lack thereof).

I like this, therefore you get to live... For now

>Ecocat<

I need a second chapter to when he reacts,now:twilightangry2::rainbowkiss:

>Ecocat<

You know, now I'm wondering if Rarity would ever use her status as an Element of Harmony to impress a potential date. Obviously that wasn't the case here.

I mean, not that Blueblood would believe her if she said anything.

Definitely a bit lacking in the dialogue or specific narrative for my taste, but an interesting take on Blueblood and how his little mind was working at the gala regardless.

Hmm, I wanna see his reaction if he finds out Rarity was an Element.

No evidence?

Prince Blueblood and the Duke and Duchess of Maretonia would like to have a word with you.

Do note that their seating arrangements are indeed both visually and spatially above those of the social elites like Fancy Pants, Fleur De Lis, or even political players like Mayor Mare, but below those of the ascended princesses:

Having said that, I definitely enjoyed this for the reversal angle. Blueblood here was Rarity's mirror image, down to their obsession with a superficial, shallow fantasy of what the pony they wanted to wed would be like. What is tragic is that they might've found each other to be perfect—if only Blueblood had known who Rarity actually was.
Now, this doesn't absolve Blueblood from his being a jerk, but it also shows the (actually fairly mild) severity of what he did that does not deserve some of the repercussions I've seen at times, up to and including the equivalent of execution.
I wish the last part was joking, but it's not.

Yay, you finally put it up, now for your Trixie / Twilight extravaganza.

4573478 Yeah, I kind of wrote this before the season ending. I still assert that Equestria lacks an active noble corps. And a proper military chain of command. (Seriously, did they forget to get a new captain when Shining Armor left?)

And yes, the similarities with Rarity is indeed intentional. He even notes himself that he's doing what (he assumes) she's trying with him - if anything, he's more honest about it.

As for repercussions... yeah, this fanbase can sometimes be downright vicious towards characters they don't like. (CoughcoughTrixiecough)

4572174 Yeah, if Rarity had made even the slightest attempt to impress Blueblood, he might actually have taken an interest. Didn't even have to be the EoH - she could have mentioned that she's an independent business owner and fashion designer, that she knows Hoity Toity and Sapphire Shores, or is a personal friend of Celestia's student. Instead she just schmoozes up to him and expects her pretty face alone to win him over, not realizing that she looks like a shameless gold digger.

4572444 Not sure what you mean by 'specific narrative', but thanks.

4572119 4572580 Screaming. Lots and lots of screaming. It might be best for his mental health if he never learns it.

4573726 Ah-ah! Spoilers!

4574030 :applecry: b-b but I want to see his mental health lowered :applecry::fluttercry: Pwease?:fluttershysad::heart:

>Ecocat<

4574030 I think you're absolutely right about modern nobility having no power, though Blueblood is a royal, which might put him in a slightly different category. From those pictures, I kind of assumed he was some sort of ambassador, which is why they seated him with the foreign dignitaries, Just like I think Fancy Pants may be the mayor of Canterlot or something, since they put him with other ponies who could reasonably be the mayors of their respective cities. This is a monarchy however, so I kind of assume royalty in Canterlot are like modern British nobility, they have no power but they hang on to some inherited wealth and spend their time holding garden parties and trying to impress each other at fundraisers.

4573478 woah, i just saw this, take a look at at the second picture. Look really carefully, and tell me who you see

Edit: and i found a few more. Hint: find photofinish, then hotytoyty/sapphire shoals, and keep going.

I found this after reading your comment in my 'best Night Ever' review. And I must admit... this is quite nice. :rainbowlaugh: Ah, Blueblood. Best if he never knows about this.

This... could actually be canon, or if not at least canon, it's become my headcanon. He wasn't trying to be an ass, he was looking for a different mare.

I like your thinking with the social system.

4952903 Thank you! I like some variety. For some reason, people keep falling back on the "evil scheming corrupt nobles" idea, despite it never showing up at all in canon.

I mean, if I wanted to see "Game of Thrones"-level scheming and backstabbing, I'd watch, I dunno... Game of Thrones?

This actually makes a lot of sense. BUT NOW I AM DYING TO KNOW HOW BLUEBLOOD WILL REACT WHEN HE FINDS OUT THAT RARITY IS THE ELEMENT OF GENEROSITY!!!!!!!!!!! Please make a sequel? :pinkiehappy:

4961945 Well, maybe. Very slightly possibly. It really depends on if an actual story can be made from it or not. We'll see. It all depends on my inspiration. My muse is somewhat erratic and difficult.

What's that, my muse? An epic tale of romance, conflict and comedy set across Manehattan? ...Or a JoJo crossover. Okay, we can do that too...

:rainbowlaugh: I love how Blueblood is so unaware that he was in the presence of an element all night.

:ajsleepy:Was really disappointed when I saw the author's note without the big reveal for Blueblood. :pinkiesad2:Maybe Celestia asking him how his night went and how she noticed he spent the night with the Element of Generosity. :pinkiegasp:Oh! Did he get the chance to try any of the Element of Honesty's apple based food from her stand! You know since she knew what he was up to and deliberately didn't tell him what they looked like. :unsuresweetie:How could Celestia of all ponies miss that trolling opportunity?!
.
.
.
Liked it anyway.:moustache:

Oh, almost forgot... Really liked the meritocracy with empty hereditary titles as a pre-unification hold over. Just wait till they save Equestria three more times... the Crystal Empire once... the world a second time... Eeh gads! Soon they will be as GODS!

4594512 You mean like Flim&Flam's shill selling popcorn on the left? Or Diamond Tiara's butler sitting right to the right of the royal seating? Or Bulk Bicep's mother sitting right below that? Or since Rarity was prominent in this fic, Coco Pommel sitting seventh spot to Pinkie's right? Braeburn sitting between sheriff Silver Star and Appeloosa's bartender?

5005390 I leave the escapade of Blueblood cluing in how very much he bucked up as an exercise for the readers. As you and others have made clear, your interpretations probably trump anything I could come up with anyway. :trollestia:

Not a bad take on Blueblood, I'm always a fan of him being characterized like this.

WHEN WILL BLUEBLOOD EVER FIND LOVE!? WILL SOMEONE PLEASE THINK OF THE BLUEBLOOD?!?! :raritycry:
Cute fic. Good work

5005390
Also, I guess Cherry Jubilee is a VIP, since she's sitting up top next to Fleur. Also the Cleopatra pony from "Luna Eclipsed" (I forget her name) must never take her Nightmare Night costume off, lol (midway between Coco & Pinkie). And it's funny/cute that there's a nurse sitting at the far end of the old-folks' row

Very nicely done. :) This felt really natural and echoed BB perfectly.

This is a clever and quite an unexpected variant on the "Blueblood wishes to ward off gold-diggers" class of Blueblood explanations. Possibly not ideal (the information that he's "Celestia's nephew N times removed" is from the original from word of god, not on-screen canon, and should carry a bit more weight if you ask me) but quite entertaining regardless. Much kudos. Very story. Could be more. :)

...And yes, I was searching for various takes on Blueblood in hopes of finding anything unusual.

Oh, Blueblood... the irony...

The irony is strong with this one. Great work, and I like your interpretation of Equestrian society.

Funny and a good insight into why Blue may have done those things on the night.

I tend to imagine Equestrian nobility as being similar to the Roman Senate post-Domitian. Sure, they still get mentioned on every public work and live in luxury, but they are essentially just a glorified book club. The august Princeps Celestia wields all real political power through her mostly common-born appointees, like Mayor Mare. Well, that made sense before Twilight got her big crystal eyesore anyway.
