It's been six months since I met Derik, and I accepted an offer to move in with him. With that said, I was faced with a whole new world of feelings. Seems to be that my life has taken a crazy turn after putting on that costume, and I couldn't be happier.

My name’s Marcus. Marcus Cortez. I’m currently a freshman at CUFTA. You don’t know what that means? Well, it stands for “Canterlot University for the Arts.” While it is a little unsettling to go to college in a completely different world from my own, and while being a human in a school full of mostly ponies is a little intimidating, I’m doing fine so far. I don’t have to worry about roommates, since I don’t live in a dorm. I live with my aunt.

Her name is Celestia. Princess Celestia.

You’re probably wondering how a human could be the nephew of a pony, and an alicorn princess, no less. Well, it’s quite the story.

In case you haven't guessed yet this is an anthro story, and my first time writing a story in first person, so we'll see how this goes.

The prologue for this story starts sixteen years prior to the return of Nightmare Moon and the story's main events take place after Season 3 ends.

It was an innocent invention. I wanted to show everypony what it was about magic and science that I loved so much. So I created a device, based off of the portal to the human realm as well as Starlight Glimmer's alteration to Starswirl the Bearded's time-travel spell. It was designed to seek different realms like the human one, each with alternate versions of everypony at alternate times. I'd even had the foresight to create a D.N.A Filter. One strand of fur, and the device would lock onto the alternate lives of that particular individual.

I was so excited. Princess Celestia, Luna, Cadence, Shining Armor and everypony came to see it in action. Rainbow Dash was the first to go. The device worked perfectly. It opened a rift that showed the town of Ponyville, an alternate Rainbow Dash. A pale blue cat with a rainbow collar. She was playing with a feline Fluttershy. Obviously the two were very young, but the device worked nonetheless.

Many ponies had a turn. And the device picked random alternate realities every time. Pinkie Pie as a Squirrel, Rarity the Swan Armorsmith, Bunny Fluttershy fighting a snake, Dragon Applejack for President.

Then Celestia proposed an idea, combining two different furs as a filter for the device. Naturally, I jumped at the chance. Combining Celestia's with my own, the device did nothing for a long moment. Then, it opened up to something that made everypony freeze with disbelief. What we saw put all villains, past and future to shame.

Nopony will forget the horrors that my invention showed.

Dash the Stampede was the legendary outlaw known for destroying any city she visited. Supposedly she is 12 feet tall, master of the elements, a demon straight from hell, a gunmare who has never missed a shot, and wearing an outfit that is one of a kind. And with a reward of 60 billion double bits on her head, and an ego just as big, everyone wants to find her and turn her in. It has been 12 years since she was last seen, and the reward was never claimed, and she has been long forgotten. But in the tiny oasis town of Ponyville, there lives a pegasus who remembers the tale. And when a group of 100 outlaws arrive in the tiny town, wanting the land for its high value, they want to take everything. So when everyone save a rainbow haired pegasus is willing to surrender to these outlaws, will the long lost outlaw come out of retirement for the good of her town and her friends? Or will her past come back to haunt her?

Diamond Tiara is under a lot of stress.

Her father wants her to one day succeed him as the CEO of Barnyard Bargains but every decision she makes as Assistant Manager seems to disappoint him. Between spending her days at school and her nights at work, she has no time for studying and her grades are starting to suffer. And with only a few more months until graduation, she's running out of time to catch up.

But even when it feels like nothing is going her way, she can at least find comfort in the arms of the one she loves.

Twilight Sparkle and her friends are snowed into the library one evening, and they happen upon that rarest of specimens - a book Twilight doesn't recognise. However, the ancient tale of adventure and intrigue they find inside ends up shattering their worldview and sending them on an adventure of their own.

This is basically what came to my mind when I heard that Lauren Faust's original concept for the show was of a more arc-based, magical girl style (this turned out not to be true, but my mind ran with it anyway), but this story ended up a long way from magical girls and well into high fantasy by the time I started writing. Also draws on select Homestuck and Dungeons & Dragons themes, and plays with a lot of things the canon leaves unexplained.

Tag update: Reduced character tags to Mane 6, CMC, Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash. While the Mane 6 and CMC provide most of the ensemble cast, Twilight Sparkle and Rainbow Dash are the primary viewpoint characters.
