All of Equestria holds its breath as the hunt for the black dragon, Stormclaw, and his ally, Queen Chrysalis, continues. Following the events of the attack on Canterlot, many have come to the ponies' aid, attempting to track down and capture the two villains.
Princess Twilight Sparkle and her friends, shaken by what happened during the attack, must push past their sorrow and fear, for they are soon to face the ultimate challenge. Rumors have spread across all the land about attacks that have been made on Equestria, Griffonstone, and the Dragon Lands. With no explanation for these events, the griffons and the dragons have become primed for war. On top of this, Zecora has been missing for over a month, and many ponies have assumed the worst.
Twilight and her friends must stay true to their elements and help steer the world back onto a path of peace if any hope of finding Zecora is to be found.

Almost one thousand years have passed. The curious unicorn Sparkle yearns to breach the surface to discover its many wonders and to search for her missing father and brother, both of whom crossed over many years ago. She is forbidden to leave the safety of her subterranean village of Unicornia until she discovers an orange earth pony washed up on the shores of an underground river. That pony bears one of the six Elements fabled to change the world.

Twilight Sparkle can't fly. She's tried as hard as she can, but she can barely lift her hooves off the ground without smacking her face into something. Rainbow Dash has tried to teach her a thing or two about it, but it only leads to failed attempts and frustrated antics.

Princess Celestia decides that this will not do. A princess who cannot fly is not much of a princess at all. She asks the captain of the Wonderbolts to remedy the problem before the public learns of Twilight's shortcomings. As they spend more and more time together, Spitfire and Twilight will forge a bond far stronger than that of a simple student teacher relationship.
