After several jumps go wrong, Anon lands himself, er, herself into another land of colorful equines. This time stuck for an entire year before being able to continue on her quest of returning home.

Shiny Beam is stuck in a rut. He's lost the fire that once made him a great writer. All is not normal in Ponyville, however, as a strange anomaly thrusts him far, far into the future, where no trace of ponies are left on Equestria... except for one survivor. This long-secluded pony recants the tale of his life and the end of Equestria.

In this barren land, Shiny must find hope. And a way back.

Derpy is a good filly.

Her eyes might not line up right and she can't think too many things at once, but she's still a good filly who always does what Daddy tells her. Until he tells her not to go into the basement under the stairs, at least. He tells her there's a monster down there, and it's all teeth and claws, and it's dangerous.

And then Derpy doesn't do what she's told.

The local human, finding himself possessed of strength beyond measure in this strange world, decides to be a brutish nuisance. You know, running around half-naked, stealing cider and that sort of thing.

When his behaviour lands him in jail he casually breaks out and - more on a whim than anything else - breaks out the other jailbird too. Because that's mischief, and she had to have done something wrong, right?

They then run from Twilight, sit around a fire and sleep in a cave.
