UPDATE:

This group was started in order to get a project off and running - a project that, due to time, effort and other things on my side, I can no longer keep to. The group is now open to submissions of any sort of dark stories that go beyond the usual blood and guts of gorefics. Stories with a message; stories that make you think and consider.

Feel free to add anything that strikes your mind, or maybe one of your own as well.

And thank you for staying.

Hello, and welcome to the Little Town project!

WHEN YOU THINK OF THE WORD 'DARK'

what do you think of?

Visions of blood and guts and guttural screams?

Overly-descriptive prose about the slaughter of your favourite ponies?

Perhaps you see it as a big sign that says 'downvote me. I'm bad'.

This project was launched to change all that.

For far too long, the genre 'dark' has been misrepresented and misaligned with stories such as 'Cupcakes' or 'Apple Family Massacre' or 'The Rainbow Factory'. Sure, such stories, shock horror, CAN be dark, but it is only a small tiny subset of a much larger genre. Saying that 'dark' simply means 'cupcakes' is like saying 'Ship' is equal to 'Twilight X Pinkie Pie' and no others can be entertained.

Yes, surely there are people who think that too... but that is beside the point.

The point is, dark stories are ingrained in our lives. ALL of you enjoy a story that is even slightly dark. Name all the movies or tv shows that you've enjoyed in the past year and I guarantee you there will be some element of dark to it.

And who doesn't enjoy an atmospheric, scary game once in a while?

We've forgotten what dark truly is, and this project has been launched to bring that back. Whether you're a dark writer, or someone who has NEVER tried it before and are willing to give it a shot, or even just someone who wants to read more and enjoy more, check out our project, join the group, find out more information and have fun.

The Little Town brand name was inspired by such shows of old like 'The Twilight Zone', 'The Outer Limits', and even 'Tales of the Crypt'. The format of a presenter and odd stories (some fantastical, some mysterious, and some downright bizarre) is what makes up the core spirit of the stories in this collection.

So grab a chair and enjoy yourself...

This is exactly the type of group I have been looking for. The dark genre is my specialty and I am glad to find a group they has some similar thoughts on the subject. Dark isn't always guts and gore. There's an artistic side to it that is beautiful in its own way. Look at such authors as Joe Lansdale and H. P. Lovecraft. They write beautifully without each story being only about the big intestine feast.

The Twilight Zone is the basis for all of my works. Not that I steal from them, but their concept of story telling. Very little gore (usually none) but with a dark plot that works slivers of horror into the mind as you read. Some of my stories are mildly gorey, but not for the sake of just being bloody. They serve purposes. They advance the story. Thanks for making this group.

301585 Indeed. However, I have sworn my oath, and I must live to it, for honor, Horkos, and... well, [insert word here].

I always say things like that in groups of three, but here, I'm hard put to think of a third thing.

Haha, I don't even know anymore...
Chat's still sort of alive, no worries. and message me on skype, I will always respond eventually.

We got a whole bunch of new writers incoming too, that's always fun. =3

301469 I will! I swear I will be first to finish a story.

I'm lonely... nobody answers on the Gdocs, OR the Skype. :derpytongue2:

Which is bad, because whenever I run into a snag, I have nobody to request help from and/or complain to.

76 members and counting.

Woo! How many (past-planning) stories?

301460
Group's got 75 members now, though =)

AND NO STORIES.

*whip* write, you! Write!

301385 I'll see what I can do.

Anyways, on another note, we got featured by Wanderer D!

But, as I would have expected, nobody listened. All they did was TL;DR, go back to skim, and see the word dark before quickly exploding into tears and throwing their computer at the wall.

301372
No problem. We try. =)

301369
Not too sure. It sort of dwindled down ever since Skype. If you have skype you oughta join the skype group. Just add me and I'll stick you in.

Thank you so very much for being able to differentiate between what I consider to be "true horror" from "slasher-flick horror." It is extremely irksome to see how easily these concepts are thrown around without proper knowledge as to what they are.

What happened to everyone?
I remember when there were like 6 people in chat at any one given moment.

I don't know, it may have improved.

But seriously now, I'm unable to just burst in like a madman and yell for help with some random OC or plot anomaly.

Hey. Hey.
*opens a door, behind which lies nothing except a single pie in the middle of a perfectly white room*
It's there. All you gotta do is go get it.

This sounds interesting. I have never delved into the dark, but I've been contemplating that jump. Some ideas come to mind when I think of 'dark' but I'm not sure I can do them. Either way, this seems promising!

I like this group already. Excuse me while I look around a lot more.

299186 i always wanted to write one where poppeye goes to Ponyville and fights discord, but never got around to it.

299156
I actually would like to join in this project. I write well allot and its all varying levels of dark...I cant leave my beloved genre alone ;3

299155
Well, don't let me stop you if you ever want to contribute! :twistnerd:
