This story is a sequel to Headhunters

The headhunters came, saved the day, and then they left. But in their wake they not only left a pile of Covenant bodies – they left Princess Twilight Sparkle with a spark of wonder. An interest in the galaxy that surrounded her little home planet; an interest in the lurking dangers and the magnificent wonders of the universe.

Unfortunately it seems some of the danger and wonder is coming to visit Equis. So it’s time for the bookish shut in to throw herself into the galaxy to find the warriors who would help her defend her home.

Marko and Ishmir are polar opposites. But that’s what makes the Spartans so good together. So good in fact they can take on a whole Covenant space station and win.

Unfortunately extraction didn’t go too well, and the headhunters find themselves stranded on an unexplored planet. Can Ishmir keep the peace with the locals and get the Spartans home; or will Marko cause an interstellar incident?

My money’s on the latter.

To better herself, Luna has studied Twilight's actions and friendship reports almost religiously. However, she never expected to find the tables turned and be under the microscope herself, nor did she realize that a pony would go so far for one they called friend.

Lance Corporal Sure-Shot – a unicorn fresh out of the Sol Guard academy, intended to be one of Princess Celestia’s elite protectors – is transferred to Shield Team of the Twilight Guard. Under Corporal Steel Block and accompanied by privates Mercury and Brute Force, the lance corporal will serve as Princess Twilight Sparkle’s elite close-guard on a diplomatic mission to Saddle Arabia.

And in keeping with the usual 'first mission' tradition, all sorts of dookie hits the fan.

“When there is nothing left to do; you must set yourself on fire.”

Nopony quite knows what possessed Starswirl the Bearded to utter this odd phrase. Some theorise that it was merely a euphemism or a riddle, and means everypony has a purpose; and that if you don’t have purpose you may as well be dead. Others think it has something to do with boredom; that if you are bored you need to put in some effort to mix things up and be ‘not-bored.’

For Private Mercury of the Earth-Pony Shields Regiment and her friends – Privates Brute Force and Steel Block – this phrase always means the latter. Because what else is there for an earth-pony shield-bearer to do in times of peace other than to guard the palace? And guard duty often comes with boredom.

What better way to fight boredom than setting stuff on fire?

Story 4 of the Savage Skies series.

It is well-known that the brighter the light, the deeper the shadow. Princess Celestia is unquestionably Equestria's brightest guiding light. Unfortunately, two ponies must deal with the very deep, very dark shadows that she casts.

Dawn Lightwing has overcome many trials since moving to Ponyville. However, his past and the ponies that haunted it are not as far behind him as he would like to think. Whether he likes it or not, his enemies, who draw their hatred from their irrational reverence for Princess Celestia, have found him again and he must struggle with the fact that his mere presence could a threat to his friends and his new family.

Twilight Sparkle must deal with a different shadow as she travels to Canterlot in order to learn more about the mysterious Eyes of Nightmare, as she must contend with the Noble Court, who live in the shadow of the Royal Palace itself, its members planning to use Twilight and her friends to advance their own ambitions, stopping at nothing to have her under their influence.

Thankfully, neither of them will have to deal with these obstacles alone.

However, something even more dangerous is stirring. Dark matters are afoot.
