Starmare, the patron guardian of Opal City, once stood for truth and justice. She fought for the needed, bringing light among the darkness, until she disappeared. Since then, ponies have forgotten there was an age of wonder. They have forgotten to look up in the sky.

Now, here in Manehattan, meet Trixie Lulamoon. She used to be a star too, in her own way. But just as even the greatest star has to burn off, so did Trixie. She ended up in the city's scrapyard, trying to make a living among the iron and rust that is her home now. Trixie pass her nights looking up in the sky, hoping for a better day to come.

When Manehattan gets hit by the evils of the past, Trixie's life will change forever and ponies will remember that there's a reason to look up in the sky.

Trixie never thought that this would happen.

This story is a sequel to Stardust

Times are changing for Equestria as Twilight’s return brings with it news of people and cultures from beyond the peaceful world everypony knows. Aid and volunteers are freely offered to help the besieged humans of Earth because every Equestrian knows that’s what good friends do. Unfortunately, making friends can also have the unintended consequence of making enemies.

When the monsters besieging the humans strike at Equestria with a level of brutality not seen in over a thousand years, the cry for help is sent to all the kingdoms of the world. Honored allies step forth to fulfill ancient treaties and oaths. Enemies, old and new, bury their grievances. An alliance never before seen in Equestria will be created to combat the monsters from the void.

And because of these events, a grim but welcome sibling to the XCOM project is born.

Well, to start with Twilight can't help the way she planned. At all.

And that's just the tip of the iceburg...

Ever since the events of 'Magic Duel', Trixie has been plagued with residual effects of the Alicorn Amulet and decided to live a life of seclusion to protect everypony from her inner monster. One night however, she is visited by the demon, Shadow, who gives her the knowledge of two paths that could lead to her salvation. Armed with this knowledge, Trixie begins her quest of final redemption for her past mistakes.

Thief. Assassin. Sister. When her secret was revealed during the Battle of Canterlot, it shocked her friends, but Jade's story hid a darker past than they could guess.

Important Note: this story is a prequel to The Empty Room. You do not need to read it to understand this story, but bear in mind it happens entirely in a pre-Season 2 AU which has different situations (and some characters) than those that came up in canon after TER was completed.

Twilight Sparkle has moved up in the job world. From sole librarian of Ponyville's Golden Oaks library to head librarian of the newly renovated Grand Equestrian Library in Canterlot.

What she did not expect was the responsibility that comes with that title as she soon comes to realize that a librarian not only deals with books, but also with the secrets that must not be allowed to be free.
