Hello and welcome to Dreamlocked Chronicles!

Remember Dreamlocked, a story about Rarity and Sweetie Belle in which one sister was saving the other from being forever lost in the world of dreams? Well, I'm pleased to announce that the sequel is on! If you enjoy my take on a universe where Nightmare Moon reigns undisputed, and the ponies cower in fear, then I give you a tale which will take you even further into this setting!

Important: this story is marked as a sequel, but a more precise term would be a circumquel, which means it starts before the original and will lead to events happening after it. That said, you don't need to know Dreamlocked to enjoy this installment.

Remember to bring your totem.

Have fun!

Interesting... awaiting more to see where this goes.

"Ring any bells?"
Sir, you had my curiosity, now you have my attention.
I must say that I read the... prequel? Spin-off? before (like, half an hour ago) reading this, and I actually found it a real good story... especially for the ending plot twist.
And now you just had to put in probably my favorite character, Sunset Shimmer.
This can't get any better!
But I think you already have in mind how to amaze us again.
Keep it up the good work!

A very promising start, my friend. I shall follow this with great interest.

Thank you for your faith from the very beginning! I'll do my best to reward it properly. :raritywink:

I'm glad to hear you've liked the original story. This one should be even better, if not for anything else then because I've definitely learned a thing or two about writing over this year.

I suppose I'll have the next chapter ready in two weeks' time.

Finally... I'm hoping we won't have to wait very long for new updates, because I really want to figure out what's going on in this particular situation.

Thanks for fulfilling your promise a long time ago haha! Looking forward to more

Great stup, asunset Shummer as protagonist, our favourite egghead and a quest for the elements that feels new. Yep. I am sooo tracking this! Have a like.

I'll do my best to deliver high quality over the shortest possible period of time! :raritywink:

Thank you, I'm glad you're enjoying it!

Yo, glad to have you on board! :yay:

So now you've plopped Sunset Shimmer in this incredibly fascinating alternate universe? Yespls.

Long time ago, even before Rainbow Rocks, I simply did the following science:

Things With Sunset Shimmer > Things Without Sunset Shimmer

It's undeniable.

5328806 Amen! Praise Celestia.

Another fact of Ponies

Sunset is to Twilight as Celestia is to Luna.

Yaaass! It's finally here!
Woot! Woot!
I can't wait for more!
I mean I can and will wait, but I'm trying to create humor through exaggeration.
Did it work?

Would listen to exaggeration again around future chapters. :rainbowwild:

Except Sunset and Twilight aren't sisters.

Okay, now all you need to do is have them work together, start a rebellion and then...
But Ferhog you already shipped them in A Sparkling Sunset, why would you want them shipped here? Cant we just have a nice mix of the matrix and inception without romance? Not every story on this website has to be a shipfic.
Shut up me...

Well, as you've correctly noticed, first come working together then making a stand, and just then, perhaps, a deeper emotional connection between these two. I can't say anything at this point. Let's just wait and see where the story takes them, shall we?

I was just kidding by the way. Im fine with reading an epic story of a rebellion versus a distopian society that spans the realistic living and sureal dream world. No romance really required...

God I need a doctor...

Here's another chapter for you folks - enjoy! :raritywink:
If all goes well I'll be delivering the third by the end of 2014.

I’m flipping through the pages like mesmerized

I think you accidentally a word or two.

Huh. Interesting. Given Sunset's characterization, I'm now wondering if there's time travel involved, or if it's just AU stuff. I'm leaning towards the latter.

End of 2014? :pinkiegasp: Thats 3 weeks away!

Very nicely done, by the way. I read Dune Goddess so I know about the cloak.
So, we have two of the most antisocial ponies in Equestria (and beyond) trying to discover the magic of friendship, fighting off Nightmare Moon and her guard. Most interesting!

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the events of Dreamlocked interact with this story. I mean, its bound to happen right? If I remember Dreamlocked correctly...

And this is what happens when you don't listen to Sunset, Twilight.
Be sure to remember that.

Woohoo! Another chapter!

Oooh... now I'm wondering if maybe that was Shining Armor, but he's been corrupted by Nightmare... it would make sense considering this:

What pushed some of them over the edge is now what's pushing me forward. Remember when I told you that I had other reasons to despise the government? Well, it seems that working with Sunset might just give me means to take back what Nightmare Moon has taken away from me.

Nightmare took over the guard and corrupted them, so it would make sense for Twilight to say "Nightmare Moon has taken away what is mine."

Well, that was a doozy.

I'm glad see the beginnings of the resistance.

Good work, prane!

You are correct. The way this is planned out pretty much guarantees at least a mention of what happened in the original, or perhaps a lengthier scene. We'll see.

Well, aren't you a smart cookie! The next chapter should give you a possible answer on that matter.
Also, Shining Armor is one of several characters which didn't make it to the character tags section but will play a certain role in the story.

Thanks! It's much appreciated!

/teaser mode on/
I'd like you to remember your comment. It may turn out relevant in the future.
/teaser mode off/

Time travel? Now that's interesting. May I hear your theory?

Thats sweet, a lengthier scene is my vote :twilightsheepish:

I think Csquared08 was wondering regarding Sunset's age and all, given she was Celestia's student a long time ago. Though maybe we best hear it from himself...

Well, given Nightmare Moon's takeover, Sunset should still be angry with Celestia and also be in human world. But that doesn't seem to be the case. So either her fallout with Celestia didn't happen in this AU or there's time travel involved and post-RR Sunset has discovered an alternate timeline via time travel.

Thanks, it's always good to know how is the story perceived by the readers.
I think the next one or two chapters will clear up Sunset's place in this setting.

This is such a fun little story, and Sunset is really cool and kind of mysterious. She's what really keep me gripped. It'll be interesting to see how this develops, especially since it seems as if you've based such a large portion around a realm Nightmare Moon reigns most powerful in. Also of interest is how much Celestia is bleeding through Shimmer, in Shimmer's own way of course, but it almost feels as if I'm reading a classic story about Celestia and Luna.

I love it!

Thank you for your comment!
Indeed, this AU is pretty much a place where Nightmare Moon reigns undisputed. And if you're interested in Sunset's relationship with Celestia then I think the story will cover that.

Have a third chapter of the story! Enjoy! :raritywink:

Also, while the updates aren't as frequent as I'd like them to be, I'd like you to know that sadly they may become even rarer in 2015. I'll be discussing the exact reason in tomorrow's blog post (don't worry, I haven't lost will to write it, or ran out of ideas; it's just some general real life stuff).

I have no problem with the gaps between your chapters. I was the gap before the first chapter that I was frustrated by.

Hmm... I wonder how this will change Twilight's opinion of Sunset. She can get angry and lose her biggest chance to save her nation, or she can accept it as the past and continue reading on.

And take your time, we'll wait. Life comes before fanfiction, unfortunately.

Uhm... this is gonna get awkward, if Sunset was so full of rage to write that note.
And yes, even if the updates become rarer, why shouldn't we follow this fic? It's great, and something tell me that the more we wait, the more will the next chapters be good.

Sunset... Why would you leave that lying around? Well, I suppose she's used to working on her own.

Good to have it confirmed this isn't that AU when it comes to her personality. I suppose it's now down to whether or not working with Twilight can help redeem her. If Twilight is still willing to work with her.

Wow, this chapter! The genius lore! That suspensful ending! The growing emotional bond that will bloom into...

But Twilight loves Sunset's smile! Its a sign!

Their rebellion of love.

I knew that Shining was going through a hard time, and what I did?

Herp derp.

>the ending

5443852 They forge their love in the fires of war!

This is an AU, but not too much of an AU.
That's good.

I do believe the largest gap is behind us, now.

5442663 5442714
Thank you for your patience. *insert a generic assurance that the lack of quantity will turn into quality*

5443852 5447677
I have a feeling that you guys reaaaaly want me to ship these two. :rainbowwild:

The question is whether Twilight is willing to risk the safety of the nation to have a shot at saving one pony, namely her brother. Poor Twi. She thought that Celestia's exams were tricky.

5453693 The quality is already considerably high, so it's not too much of a worry in my mind.:raritywink:

5453693 Don't listen to us. We are but desperate shippers.
Seriously though, if they don't need to be shipped then they don't need to be shipped.
Ship them only if you want to ship them.

I'm not sure what you mean. Isn't she risking the safety of the nation either way? Working with Sunset increases odds of success but opens Twilight to treachery on her part. Working alone means the nation is more likely to stay under Nightmare's heel.

RE: Shipping. I wouldn't mind it if you think you can pull it off, but it's not necessary, either. I'm here for good adventure starring Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle.

Is really prefer no shipping, but I would love a sister relationship.

On one hand, this chapters great, mostly light hearted that helps us understand more about Twilight, and alot more about Shimmer. On the other, nothing happens. I loved all the old lore that was created, but that's all it was, just lore. There was no story progression until the last bit. So I loved the characterization and lore, but I'm not sure wasting a whole chapter on just that was worth it, despite it's awesomeness.

I am liking Twilights hope that maybe, she'll just might have a chance, and it seems to just barely infecting Shimmer who is slowly learning to smile and share.

Thank you! I shall join the group you linked as well.

I know I enjoyed coming up with that lore, but I see your point. Allow me to elaborate on my choices.

In the series, Twilight learned about the Elements of Harmony from three books: the one containing the opening tale about Nightmare Moon's banishment, Predictions and Prophecies, and The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide ("It was under 'E'!"). The thing is, that last one was purely a device to advance the plot. In this setting, Twilight never had a chance to visit Ponyville and find that book, but she was bound to learn about the EoH eventually. I asked myself: "How to make her aware of certain things while making it enjoyable for the reader?". I didn't want to make Sunset a font of knowledge, that's for sure. If it was a movie I'd just slap a montage with empty coffee cups, one or two comedy gags for relief and mysterious music to go with the research. Such method, however, doesn't translate well into writing. So it was either making a three-sentence jump to where Twilight read all those books, or inviting the reader to read them with her.

All in all, I hope you liked the mini-stories about Prospearo and Marelin. As for the progression of the grand scheme, I think the upcoming chapter will satisfy you. :trixieshiftleft:

Welcome to the fourth chapter of our trip into the surreality of dreams. It's a bit longer than usual, but boy, isn't it packed with... I'm not sure with what exactly. Mystery brought from that piece of paper Twilight read last time? Excitement from learning new things about certain ponies? Or perhaps a dose of Antagonism? Either way, I can't wait to hear what you guys think!

Enjoy!

...Well, on the plus side that misunderstanding sure didn't have long to fester.

Nooooo, Sunset, wake up!

So she was the first one Dreamlocked? And from here on Twilight is trying to save her?
