Remember Dreamlocked, a story about Rarity and Sweetie Belle in which one sister was saving the other from being forever lost in the world of dreams? Well, I'm pleased to announce that the sequel is on! If you enjoy my take on a universe where Nightmare Moon reigns undisputed, and the ponies cower in fear, then I give you a tale which will take you even further into this setting!
Important: this story is marked as a sequel, but a more precise term would be a circumquel, which means it starts before the original and will lead to events happening after it. That said, you don't need to know Dreamlocked to enjoy this installment.

Well, given Nightmare Moon's takeover, Sunset should still be angry with Celestia and also be in human world. But that doesn't seem to be the case. So either her fallout with Celestia didn't happen in this AU or there's time travel involved and post-RR Sunset has discovered an alternate timeline via time travel.

This is such a fun little story, and Sunset is really cool and kind of mysterious. She's what really keep me gripped. It'll be interesting to see how this develops, especially since it seems as if you've based such a large portion around a realm Nightmare Moon reigns most powerful in. Also of interest is how much Celestia is bleeding through Shimmer, in Shimmer's own way of course, but it almost feels as if I'm reading a classic story about Celestia and Luna.

I have no problem with the gaps between your chapters. I was the gap before the first chapter that I was frustrated by.

I'm not sure what you mean. Isn't she risking the safety of the nation either way? Working with Sunset increases odds of success but opens Twilight to treachery on her part. Working alone means the nation is more likely to stay under Nightmare's heel.
RE: Shipping. I wouldn't mind it if you think you can pull it off, but it's not necessary, either. I'm here for good adventure starring Sunset Shimmer and Twilight Sparkle.

Is really prefer no shipping, but I would love a sister relationship.
On one hand, this chapters great, mostly light hearted that helps us understand more about Twilight, and alot more about Shimmer. On the other, nothing happens. I loved all the old lore that was created, but that's all it was, just lore. There was no story progression until the last bit. So I loved the characterization and lore, but I'm not sure wasting a whole chapter on just that was worth it, despite it's awesomeness.
I am liking Twilights hope that maybe, she'll just might have a chance, and it seems to just barely infecting Shimmer who is slowly learning to smile and share.

I know I enjoyed coming up with that lore, but I see your point. Allow me to elaborate on my choices.
In the series, Twilight learned about the Elements of Harmony from three books: the one containing the opening tale about Nightmare Moon's banishment, Predictions and Prophecies, and The Elements of Harmony: A Reference Guide ("It was under 'E'!"). The thing is, that last one was purely a device to advance the plot. In this setting, Twilight never had a chance to visit Ponyville and find that book, but she was bound to learn about the EoH eventually. I asked myself: "How to make her aware of certain things while making it enjoyable for the reader?". I didn't want to make Sunset a font of knowledge, that's for sure. If it was a movie I'd just slap a montage with empty coffee cups, one or two comedy gags for relief and mysterious music to go with the research. Such method, however, doesn't translate well into writing. So it was either making a three-sentence jump to where Twilight read all those books, or inviting the reader to read them with her.
All in all, I hope you liked the mini-stories about Prospearo and Marelin. As for the progression of the grand scheme, I think the upcoming chapter will satisfy you.
Welcome to the fourth chapter of our trip into the surreality of dreams. It's a bit longer than usual, but boy, isn't it packed with... I'm not sure with what exactly. Mystery brought from that piece of paper Twilight read last time? Excitement from learning new things about certain ponies? Or perhaps a dose of Antagonism?
